
Crash spills 45,000 litres of acid, closes Hwy. 402 lanes: OPP
Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said it was about 1 p.m. on Wednesday when a passenger vehicle 'cut off' a transport truck, which crashed into the ditch. He said there were no serious injuries but the big rig was carrying 45,000 litres of monochloroacetic acid.

The westbound lanes of the 402 were closed between Centre Road and Kerwood Road – west of London, near Strathroy – and were expected to open at some point on Thursday afternoon.

Police asked the public for help finding Cory Robert Fowler, 42, on Wednesday and released his photo.

Fowler is now in custody, police said Thursday.

Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Fowler following an investigation that started in April when a woman contacted police.

The woman became involved in sex work in October 2023 after meeting a man online, police said.

The man, who advertised the woman's services on the internet, assaulted the woman at an Exeter Road hotel during an argument over the woman leaving the arrangement, police said.

Fowler is charged with trafficking a person under 18, financial or material benefit of trafficking a person under 18, financial or material benefit from sexual services provided by a person under 18, procuring a person under 18, advertising another person's sexual services and assault.

Motorcyclist dead after South Surrey collision, police say
A Surrey Police Service vehicle is seen outside the department's headquarters. (CTV News) A motorcyclist is dead after a collision in South Surrey Saturday morning. Officers from the RCMP Surrey Police Operations Support Unit were called to the intersection of Crescent Road and 132 Street shortly before 8:45 a.m., the Surrey Police Service said in a news release. The call came from B.C. Emergency Health Services, who reported that a motorcycle and a vehicle had collided, police said. Paramedics, firefighters and police all attended the scene, but the motorcyclist – an adult man – could not be saved, according to the SPS. The RCMP SPOSU Major Crimes MVI Unit has been called in to lead the investigation, police said, adding that the cause of the collision 'remains unknown.' 'Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area of 132 Street and Crescent Road and find alternate routes while the investigation takes place,' the SPS news release reads. 'The area is likely to be closed down for several hours as officers conduct their investigation.' Police asked anyone with information, including surveillance or dash cam video, to call the SPS at 604-599-0502 and reference file number 2025-38200 (SU).

Investigation underway into death of child who fell from Edmonton rooftop
An investigation is underway by Edmonton police into the death of a child who fell from a rooftop earlier this week. An EPS spokesperson confirmed Saturday that the child fell from a rooftop in the area of 121 Street and 101 Avenue on July 2. No other information has been released.

Toddler drowns in the water off Wolfe Island
Provincial police are investigating after a toddler drowned Friday morning in the St. Lawrence River near Kingston, Ont. Leeds County OPP got a call around 9:30 a.m. that an unresponsive toddler had been found in the river near Stoney Point Lane on Wolfe Island, according to a Saturday afternoon news release. Family members and first responders immediately tried to save the child's life, OPP said. The toddler was taken to a regional trauma centre where they were pronounced dead, police said. OPP said they would not be releasing the child's identity.
