ONGC conducts Civil Defence Mock Drill
The drill commenced with a detailed briefing session led by ONGC officials, who explained the ongoing situation and highlighted ONGC's readiness to manage fire-related emergencies resulting from hostile activities. Following the briefing, an emergency alarm was triggered, simulating a crisis at the refinery.
As part of the mock drill, firefighting protocols were demonstrated, including the swift deployment of a fire tender. ONGC experts showcased the use of different types of fire extinguishers for various fire categories, educating the participants on the appropriate methods to contain and extinguish fires. An ambulance was also mobilised to exhibit emergency medical response capabilities.
ONGC officials commended the crucial role of CISF and APSPF personnel in ensuring round-the-clock security.
A short educational film from the Government of India was screened to make people aware of guidelines on protective measures during air raids. ONGC representatives urged the public to rely on verified sources of information and avoid being misled by fake messages circulating on social media.

New Delhi: India is witnessing a renewed surge in oil and gas exploration with the opening of nearly one million square kilometres of erstwhile 'No-Go' offshore areas in 2022, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, informed the Parliament on Tuesday. "This move has unlocked significant exploration frontiers, especially in deepwater and frontier regions such as the Andaman-Nicobar (AN) offshore basin, and has been instrumental in triggering the current momentum in offshore activity," the minister said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. Since 2015, Exploration and Production (E&P) companies operating in India have reported 172 hydrocarbon discoveries, including 62 in offshore areas. The minister highlighted the geological significance of the AN basin, which lies at the junction of the Andaman and Nicobar Basins within the Bengal-Arakan sedimentary system. The tectonic setting, located at the boundary of the Indian and Burmese plates, has led to the formation of numerous stratigraphic traps that are conducive to hydrocarbon accumulation. This geological promise is further amplified by the basin's proximity to proven petroleum systems in Myanmar and North Sumatra. The region has attracted renewed global interest following significant gas discoveries in South Andaman offshore Indonesia, underlining the geological continuity across the region, the minister said. While the favourable geology sets a strong foundation, Puri emphasised that the real breakthrough has come from the government's strategic policy interventions and a new exploration approach. The revised strategy has enabled aggressive acquisition of seismic data, initiation of both stratigraphic and exploratory drilling, and increased engagement with international exploration partners, several of whom have shown keen interest in the newly accessible frontier blocks, he stated. In a significant development, ONGC and Oil India Ltd (OIL) have launched an ambitious exploration campaign in the Andaman ultra-deepwater region. For the first time, drilling operations are targeting depths of up to 5,000 metres. One such wildcat well, ANDW-7, drilled in a carbonate play in the East Andaman Back Arc region, has yielded encouraging geological insights. These include traces of light crude and condensate in cutting samples, heavy hydrocarbons like C-5 neo-pentane in trip gases, the minister further stated. These findings establish, for the first time, the existence of an active thermogenic petroleum system in the region, comparable to those in Myanmar and North Sumatra. While commercial reserves remain to be established, this campaign has validated the presence of a working petroleum system and laid the foundation for focused exploration in the area, the minister said. Providing an overview of the exploration outcomes so far, the minister informed that the ONGC has made hydrocarbon discoveries in 20 blocks, with an estimated reserve of 75 million metric tonnes of oil equivalent (MMTOE). OIL, on its part, has made seven oil and gas discoveries over the past four years, with reserves estimated at 9.8 million barrels of oil and 2,706.3 million standard cubic meters of gas. Three major companies Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), BP Exploration (Alpha) Ltd, and Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) on July 28 announced that they have signed a Joint Operating Agreement (JOA) to explore oil and gas in an offshore area of the Saurashtra Basin. This agreement is for Block GS-OSHP-2022/2, which was awarded under the 9th round of the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP). The signing took place in New Delhi at ONGC's Deendayal Urja Bhawan on July 28, 2025. This block is located off the western coast of India in the Saurashtra Basin and covers an area of around 5,454 square kilometers. It falls under a Category-II basin, which means it has promising potential for oil and gas. As part of the agreement, ONGC has been named the operator of the block. The company will now begin exploration work in the area to check for hydrocarbon reserves (like oil and natural gas) and evaluate the possibility of future production. Investment in Mozambique Project Last week, ONGC shared in a stock exchange filing that it has approved a funding of up to Rs. 5,082 crore for the Area 1 LNG project in Mozambique during the financial year 2026–27. This investment will be made through ONGC Videsh's subsidiaries. ONGC Videsh holds a 16 per cent stake in the Area 1 project in Mozambique. This stake is managed through its two subsidiaries, ONGC Videsh Rovuma (OVRL) and Beas Rovuma Energy Mozambique (BREML). The company's board has approved this Rs. 5,082.39 crore 'true-up' amount, which is meant to cover or adjust for estimated costs related to the project. Out of this, BREML will spend Rs. 1,270.62 crore in 2025–26 and Rs. 635.31 crore in 2026–27.

ONGC, BP, RIL sign joint operating agreement for Saurashtra basin block
New Delhi: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation ( ONGC ), in partnership with BP Exploration (Alpha), and Reliance Industries (RIL), signed a joint operating agreement for offshore exploration of Block GS-OSHP-2022/2, awarded under the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP) Bid Round-IX. According to the official press release, the block, located off the western coast in the Saurashtra Basin , spans an area of about 5,454 square kilometres and is classified under category-II basins. The consortium, with ONGC designated as the operator, is set to undertake exploratory activities aimed at assessing and harnessing the hydrocarbon potential of the region. The signing ceremony was attended by Manoj Kumar, Director - Finance, BP Exploration (Alpha), and Avinash Kumar Pathak, Senior Vice-President, RIL, including Arunangshu Sarkar, Director - Strategy & Corporate Affairs, ONGC, Om Prakash Sinha, Director - Exploration, ONGC.
