Fairouz attends the funeral of Ziad Rahbani in Beirut
ALBAWABA - Ahead of the funeral procession for Lebanese music legend Ziad Rahbani, his mother Fairouz and sister Rima Rahbani were seen mourning his death inside the Church of Our Lady of the Dormition on Monday. Ziad Rahbani died at the age of 69 after suffering from a long illness. He was a respected Lebanese composer, pianist, playwright, and political commentator. His funeral set off from Beirut's Hamra Street as his body made its way while surrounded by fans who held flowers, cheered, and raised Lebanese flags to bid the music legend farewell. Moreover, the crowd threw rice and flowers at the car carrying Rahbani's body as his iconic songs echoed across the street. As the son of Fairouz, who is dubbed "The Cedar of Lebanon" for being one of the most influential singers of the Arab world, Rahbani composed several songs for his mother. At the age of 17, Ziad Rahbani composed his first song for Fairouz and appeared for the first time on stage as a detective in a play called "Al Mahatta." His most notable works for Fairouz include "Sa'aloni al-Nas," "Kifak Anta," and "Adiy."
