Jagan demands govt's intervention to save farmers
Jagan expressed serious concern over the deteriorating conditions of farmers, noting that recent government grain procurement paid them Rs 300 less than the MSP. He highlighted that this crisis affects major crops including paddy, chili, cotton, and tobacco, leaving farmers struggling for fair prices. He attributed rising farmer suicides to governmental indifference, contrasting the current situation with his previous 'Raithu Rajyam' initiatives that supported farmers. Many of these programs, like the Rythu Bharosa scheme, have been discontinued, with only the central government's Rs 6,000 disbursed this year.
The former Chief Minister pointed out that Virginia tobacco prices have dropped significantly, from Rs 360 per kg to Rs 220-260, and low-grade tobacco has plummeted from Rs 240 to Rs 160-180. Consequently, procurement has reached only 40 million tons of the targeted 220 million tons. He warned that the agricultural crisis will worsen unless the government acts quickly to address these issues and ensure fair pricing. He emphasized the urgent need for policy changes to prevent a complete collapse of the agricultural sector in the state.

HC asks for trial court order in Pawan Kalyan defamation case
Vijayawada: The high court on Friday asked the petitioners to file a certified copy of the trial court order allowing the withdrawal of prosecution against deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan in the case registered over his alleged objectionable comments made on volunteers. K Sarala, along with three others, moved the court challenging the trial court orders and sought directions to prosecute Pawan for making defamatory remarks on volunteers. A criminal defamation case was filed under sections 499 and 500 of the IPC against Pawan in a Guntur court after he made certain remarks over missing women in Andhra Pradesh during his Varahi Yatra. He said he received information from intelligence sources that the personal data of citizens collected by volunteers landed in the hands of anti-social elements involved in human trafficking, and it was one of the reasons behind the high number of missing cases of women in AP. However, after the NDA govt came to power, five volunteers, who were also complainants in the case, deposed before the trial court stating that YSRCP leaders took their signatures and filed petitions before the court without their knowledge. Considering the affidavits and statements given by the complainants, the trial court allowed the withdrawal of prosecution.

YSRCP calls stampede probe report ‘biased' and ‘predetermined'
1 2 Vijayawada: Calling the one-man judicial commission report on the Tirupati stampede incident "biased" and "predetermined", opposition YSRCP on Friday demanded a probe by the CBI probe into the entire thing. Six persons died and over 30 were injured in the stampede on the evening of Jan 8 just before the Vaikuntha Ekadashi festival in Tirumala. Former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy claimed that the report seems to have spared the main persons and made a few lower-rung officials scapegoats. The state cabinet on Thursday accepted the report submitted by retired high court judge, Justice M Satyanarayana Murthy, on the stampede. "The report seems to be predetermined as it has let off the main persons responsible for the incident, but has selectively picked two persons and made them scapegoats. "We reject the judicial commission report, which seems to be a premeditated one and demand a CBI inquiry for facts to come out," he said.
