HEARTBREAKING tributes have been paid to a Scots ice hockey star who died after falling from a balcony at an Ibiza hotel.
Gary Kelly, 19, fell from the third floor at the four-star Ibiza Rocks Hotel where a Scots holidaymaker lost his life just a fortnight ago.

Two ambulances were sent to the scene in the early hours of this morning but paramedics said there was nothing they could do to save him.
The tragedy, which is being investigated by police, happened just after midnight.

Tributes have been paid to the teen on social media since the news of his death.
He has been described as a "hugely talented and charismatic individual" by Dundee Stars.
A statement from the team said: "The Dundee Stars are truly devastated to learn that Gary Kelly has tragically passed
away.
"We send our thoughts and condolences to Gary's family, partner, and all his friends at this extremely difficult time.
"Everyone at the club including players, staff, management, and ownership are heartbroken to hear this tragic news.
"Gary was hugely talented and charismatic individual who had a great future ahead of him.
"His loss will impact many in the ice hockey community and beyond. He will be sadly missed.
"We respect and support the family's request for privacy at this extremely difficult time."
Aberdeen Lynx wrote: "The Lynx family is heartbroken to share the devastating news of the sudden passing of one of our brightest young stars, Gary Kelly, while on holiday.
"Gary was more than just a talented hockey player — he was a young man full of heart, passion, and dedication. On the ice, he gave everything he had. Off the ice, he brought energy, kindness, and an infectious love of life that lifted everyone around him.
"He wore his heart on his sleeve, and that spirit left a lasting mark on our team, our club, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
"Gary's potential was limitless, but even more than that, he was simply a brilliant person to be around. He was part of our family, and his absence leaves a hole that cannot be filled.
"We send our deepest condolences to Gary's family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time. Our thoughts are with you, and we stand with you in grief and in love.
"As a club, we are doing all we can to support our players and members as they come to terms with this tragic loss.
"Rest easy, Gary — you will always be one of our brightest stars."
A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office told The Courier: 'We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.'

It turned out that way, with the Scots soundly beaten 29-14 in Suva. They returned to New Zealand for the final fixture and enjoyed a convincing 41-12 win over Samoa at Eden Park. Here's what we learned from the three-game tour. Coaching rejig on the cards The tour brought the curtain down on Steve Tandy's involvement with Scotland after almost six years as Townsend's right-hand man. Tandy will take over as Wales' new head coach on September 1 and leaves big shoes to fill. Appointed as Scotland defence coach in December 2019 to replace the Australia-bound Matt Taylor, Tandy's work with the national side has been rightly lauded and he was seconded to the Lions with Townsend on the 2021 tour to South Africa. Scottish Rugby chief Alex Williamson hopes to have a replacement in for the autumn internationals which begin on November 1 against USA at Murrayfield and continue with the visits of New Zealand, Argentina and Tonga. Tandy has turned defence into one of Scotland's key strengths and Williamson and Townsend will cast the net wide in their search for a successor. Townsend, meanwhile, was guarded about his own future at the conclusion of the tour. Talks were planned in New Zealand and Townsend said he expects further discussions 'after the summer'. He has been in post for eight years and refused to say if he wanted to remain beyond the end of the 2026 Six Nations. Rankings setback Scotland went into the summer tour ranked seventh in the world, with Townsend looking to climb into the top six ahead of the draw for the 2027 Rugby World Cup which will take place in December this year. A win over Fiji would have helped but the defeat in Suva saw Scotland drop to eighth, below Argentina. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Being in the top six ahead of the draw is important because it means you will be in the top pot of seeds and should, theoretically, be placed in an easier group at the revamped World Cup in Australia. The expanded tournament will see the 24 teams drawn into six pools of four, with the top two from each group plus the four best third-placed sides advancing to the round of 16. Building squad depth With Finn Russell, Sione Tuipulotu, Huw Jones, Duhan van der Merwe, Blair Kinghorn, Pierre Schoeman and Scott Cummings in Australia with the Lions and Zander Fagerson sidelined by a calf injury this was a tour to test Scotland's strength in depth. More players crossed the Tasman Sea as the tour progressed, with Ben White and Darcy Graham leaving the Scotland camp to link up with the Lions as injuries took their toll. Ewan Ashman, Rory Sutherland and Gregor Brown have now also been summoned by Andy Farrell, swelling the number of Scots in his squad to 12. The absences were most keenly felt in the backline. Russell and White have been Scotland's first-choice halfback pairing for some time and this tour was an opportunity for Fergus Burke and Jamie Dobie to step up. Burke, the New Zealand-born Saracens stand-off, came off the bench in the non-cap Māori game then started against both Fiji and Samoa, impressing with his defensive work in particular against hugely physical opponents. He kicked well in the Fiji game but less so against the Samoans and had to go off after an hour with a head injury. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Dobie was first capped in 2021 but this tour afforded the Glasgow Warriors player the first opportunity to start for Scotland in his preferred position of scrum-half. He was particularly impressive in the first half against Samoa before switching to the wing after the break. With George Horne also excelling in the Māori match, Scotland are blessed when it comes to talent in the nine jersey. Rory Hutchinson was another who took his chance on tour. The Northampton Saints centre has been lightly used by Scotland over the years but was creative and effective in the wins over the Maori and Samoa alongside Stafford McDowall. Hutchinson probably benefited from not being involved in the Fiji game where Cam Redpath struggled to make an impression. In the pack, Andy Onyeama-Christie and Cameron Henderson made welcome returns from injury while Matt Fagerson probably needs more minutes to get up to speed after a long lay-off. Fin Richardson won his first cap but strength in depth in the prop roles remains a concern. Tours an endangered species As things stand, the Nations Cup will begin next summer. The new Test-match league is designed to add more structure to international rugby and will be played every two years when there is no World Cup or Lions tour. Northern hemisphere teams will travel to play three matches in the southern hemisphere in the summer and then host three touring southern hemisphere sides in the autumn. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The last weekend in November will be reserved for a finals series, where the top-ranked European side will face the best-placed team from the rest of the world to determine the Nations Cup winner. Five other cross-hemisphere matches will determine minor places. This more rigid format is likely to make tours such as the one Scotland have just completed more rare. Townsend espoused the off-field benefits of visiting Fiji in particular, citing school visits and other community initiatives.

Girlfriend of teen who fell to his death at Ibiza Rocks pays tribute to 'inspiring' ice hockey star

The devastated girlfriend of a Scottish ice hockey star who died after falling from an Ibiza hotel has paid tribute to her "inspiring" late partner. Gary Kelly, from Dundee, died instantly in the fall at Ibiza Rocks during the early hours of Monday morning, July 21. Two ambulances rushed to the scene but paramedics say there was nothing they could do to save him. The 19-year-old's girlfriend Louise Essery published a tribute to Gary, who she described as inspirational across every area of his life. Louise took to Facebook with the heart-wrenching statement telling loved ones she would "remember the good times" and "celebrate the love he brought into their lives." She wrote: "I never thought I would be sat here writing a goodbye. For those who knew Gary, oh you were so lucky. His passion and dedication was inspiring, whether in hockey, work, or with loved ones. I'm struggling to understand how you are no longer with me. "It hasn't really hit me yet. Gary taught and showed me valuable lessons that I'll carry with me forever. I think it's important to remember the good times and to celebrate the love he brought into our lives." She continued: "Everything feels heavy, and words can't express the love I have for Gary. I wish you could see how much you are loved. Even though our experiences together have paused, the memories we made will stay with me forever. I miss you so much already. "Thank you for the kind messages about Gary; they mean a lot. I love you forever and always, Gary Kelly." Officers in Spain confirmed in a statement they were called to the scene at around 12.40am. A probe has been launched following the latest death at the hotel. Evan Thomson, from Aberdeen, lost his life just a fortnight ago at the same four-star hotel. We are asking everyone to respect our privacy as a family while we try to navigate through this tragic news. You'll forever be our boy Gary, Sleep tight." A spokesman for the Civil Guard added: 'The fall could be accidental based on the early information obtained from cameras but as part of the investigation possible witnesses will need to be located and interviewed. The results of the post-mortem will also be important to the investigation.' On Monday, bosses at Ibiza Rocks said they were "deeply shocked and devastated" following the latest tragedy as they suspended all events at the hotel. A spokesperson said: "Our priority is to support those affected and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and to fully assist the authorities with their investigations. "The safety and wellbeing of our guests has, and always will remain, our highest priority. Given the seriousness of the situation and out of respect for those involved, we believe it is right to pause our advertised events programme at this time."

Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein return for series four of Ted Lasso
The Apple TV+ series follows an american football coach, Ted Lasso, played by We're The Millers star Jason Sudeikis, as he tries to manage a British football 'soccer' team, AFC Richmond. In series three, Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) stepped up as assistant coach, alongside coach Beard (Brendan Hunt), while Ted (Sudeikis) dealt with personal issues back home. The fourth installment will see Ted return to Richmond to coach a second division women's football team. Along with Sudeikis, Game Of Thrones star Waddingham will return to reprise her role as the owner of AFC Richmond, Rebecca Welton, along with Wild Child actress Juno Temple who plays Keeley Jones. Goldstein will also return to the series along with Hunt and Jeremy Swift and a number of newcomers including Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack and Faye Marsey. Rex Hayes will also join season four along with Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely, who is stepping in as Ted's son, 'Henry'. Sudeikis executive produces alongside a number of others including Goldstein, who also serves as a writer. Ted Lasso has received 61 Emmy nominations in total and won 13, with Sudeikis picking up the lead actor in a comedy series gong in 2021 and 2022. The series was developed by Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Joe Kelly and Brendan Hunt, and is based on the pre-existing format and characters from NBC Sports.
