National Press Festival celebrates 100 years of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press

The Star19-06-2025

HANOI: The 2025 National Press Festival officially opened on Thursday (June 19) at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi under the theme 'Vietnamese Press – Loyalty, Creativity, Bravery, Innovation for National Construction and Defence'.
The event marks a major political and cultural milestone as the country celebrates 100 years of revolutionary journalism (June 21, 1925–2025).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation, said that the Vietnamese revolutionary press had always fulfilled its sacred mission – to accompany the nation, serve the Fatherland, and speak for the people.
Journalism, he said, had long been a trusted voice of the Party and State, a vital bridge between Party ideology and public sentiment, and a mirror reflecting the aspirations of society.
"It is a key platform for spreading humanistic values, promoting what is good and just, and firmly defending the Party's ideological foundation against distorted and hostile views."
Nghia praised this year's festival as a vivid symbol of continuity and progress, from traditional print to digital, from pen and paper to artificial intelligence and big data.
The exhibits and technology applications demonstrate how the press has evolved across formats: print, radio, television, online, and multi-platform journalism.
As Vietnam embraces rapid technological change and administrative reform, journalism must also adapt.
Nghia urged journalists and news agencies to foster professional growth, strengthen political integrity, and embrace digital transformation to innovate content creation and distribution.
'Innovation must be the engine, technology the tool to elevate Vietnamese journalism,' he said.
'We must boldly rethink leadership models, editorial processes, and public engagement strategies.'
Organised by the Vietnam Journalists Association in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and other central and local agencies, the 2025 festival is a special event commemorating the centennial of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism.
This year's edition features over 130 display booths from more than 124 media outlets nationwide.
A major highlight is a dedicated centrepiece exhibition titled '100 Years of Revolutionary Journalism in Vietnam: Achievements and Development Trends in the New Era'.
More than 500 digitised artefacts, photographs and historical documents have been curated to trace the profession's century-long journey.
Professional forums are a key part of the programme, notably the second National Press Forum, which includes ten in-depth panel discussions on pressing topics such as journalism's role in the digital age, artificial intelligence in editorial strategy, data journalism, broadcasting and radio innovation, Gen Z engagement, revenue models, and newsroom leadership.
Distinguished Vietnamese and international journalists and media experts are taking part.
Alongside professional exchange, the festival offers vibrant side events, including the fourth 'Journalists & Public Opinion Cup' football tournament and interactive exhibitions with entertainment and cultural performances.
Outstanding booths, activities, and journalistic products across all formats will be honoured through official awards.
Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan newspaper, and Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, said "the guiding theme – loyalty, creativity, bravery, innovation – is the compass for the press as the country steps into a new era".
'Journalism must be at the forefront of spreading positive values, encouraging patriotism and national solidarity, and strengthening collective resolve toward a strong, prosperous and sovereign Vietnam,' Minh said.
During the opening, Nguyen Trong Nghia and other leaders jointly launched a special commemorative stamp set marking the 100th anniversary of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism and signed a collective commemorative stamp artwork dedicated to the occasion. - Vietnam News/ANN

VinFast inaugurates electric vehicle plant in Hà Tĩnh

HÀ TĨNH, VIETNAM - Media OutReach Newswire - 29 June 2025 - VinFast has officially inaugurated its electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Hà Tĩnh, located in the Vũng Áng Economic Zone, less than seven months after construction began. Spanning 360,000 square meters and with a designed capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year, this marks VinFast's fifth manufacturing facility worldwide, highlighting the Vietnamese brand's remarkable execution speed and strong industrial capabilities. The inauguration ceremony of the VinFast Hà Tĩnh EV manufacturing plant was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Chí Dũng, along with senior current and former leaders of the Party, the Government, and Hà Tĩnh Province. The Hà Tĩnh plant is VinFast's second EV manufacturing site to officially go into production, and the fifth project within the company's developing global production network. With construction and equipment installation completed in under seven months, VinFast Hà Tĩnh is one of the fastest-built automobile factories in the world to date. The factory covers a total area of 360,000 square meters and includes key workshops such as the Body Welding Shop, Painting Shop, General Assembly Shop, a Logistics Warehouse, and a Quality Control Center. In addition, a 240,000-square-meter auxiliary cluster is under construction, with plans for further expansion in the coming years. VinFast Hà Tĩnh is equipped with one of Southeast Asia's most advanced and highly automated production lines, featuring state-of-the-art technologies from leading global partners such as ABB, DÜRR, FANUC, and SIEMENS. All manufacturing processes strictly comply with international standards including ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems), and IATF 16949 (Automotive Quality Management Systems). In its initial phase, the plant has a design capacity of approximately 200,000 vehicles per year, with an average output of 35 vehicles per hour. Future plans include expanding capacity to meet growing market demand. To optimize production lines during the early stages, the Hà Tĩnh plant will focus on compact urban EV models such as the VF 3, Minio Green, EC Van, and several upcoming models currently in development. Vehicles produced at the plant will serve both the domestic market and international exports. The facility is expected to create approximately 6,000 direct jobs in its initial phase, with the potential to expand its workforce to 15,000 in the future, supporting local employment and contributing to the region's socioeconomic development. Additionally, the presence of VinFast Hà Tĩnh is expected to attract auxiliary partners to set up operations in the industrial zone, creating a synchronized supply chain and advancing the goal of reaching over 80% localization in electric vehicle production by 2026. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Võ Trọng Hải, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Hà Tĩnh Provincial People's Committee, congratulated VinFast and praised the important role and contributions of the VinFast Hà Tĩnh plant to the province's economic and social development. 'The Hà Tĩnh provincial leadership is committed to working closely with Vingroup and investors to create the most favorable conditions and swiftly resolve any difficulties, ensuring smooth investment and business operations. We firmly believe that with Vingroup's strong financial resources, experience, capabilities, and determination, along with the support and consensus of the local people and the close cooperation of the provincial authorities, this site will soon become a modern, environmentally friendly automotive industrial complex that drives Hà Tĩnh's sustainable economic growth,' Chairman Võ Trọng Hải said. Mr. Nguyễn Việt Quang, Vice Chairman and CEO of Vingroup, said: 'The inauguration of the VinFast Hà Tĩnh plant marks a significant milestone in VinFast's long-term development strategy and its global production expansion. Once operational, this facility will help VinFast move closer to its goal of producing one million vehicles per year to meet growing demand in both domestic and international markets. It also demonstrates our technological capability, production autonomy, and pioneering vision in promoting sustainable mobility in Vietnam and around the world'. In the first five months of 2025, VinFast has become the top-selling auto brand in Vietnam, delivering over 56,000 vehicles. The VF 3, VF 5, and VF 6 models have been among the bestsellers. VinFast EVs are also gaining traction in international markets such as the Philippines and Indonesia. VinFast currently has five manufacturing facilities in development across Vietnam, the United States, India, and Indonesia. In addition to the two operational plants in Vietnam (VinFast Hải Phòng and VinFast Hà Tĩnh), the facilities in India and Indonesia are expected to be inaugurated soon to meet demand in strategic international markets.

Kenyans clean up looted shops, torched buildings after day of deadly protests

People react as they look at business premises burnt during demonstrations to mark the first anniversary of the deadly 2024 anti-government protests that drew widespread condemnation over the use of force by security agencies, in downtown Nairobi, Kenya June 26, 2025. REUTERS/Monicah Mwangi NAIROBI (Reuters) -Torched buildings were smouldering and shop owners were cleaning up the charred wreckage in central Nairobi on Thursday, after a night of looting and arson followed youth demonstrations in which rights group Amnesty Kenya said 16 people were killed. Thousands of Kenyans took to the streets on Wednesday, to mark the anniversary of deadly demonstrations a year ago and to protest against the death this month of a blogger held in police custody over a complaint by a senior police official. More than 60 people were killed in the 2024 demonstrations, led by youth who refer to themselves informally as Gen Z, against a proposed tax hike. This month has seen a number of demonstrations following the death of blogger Albert Ojwang, found to have been beaten in jail. Wednesday's protests saw police fire tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds in Nairobi, with isolated clashes also breaking out in other towns. Reuters saw several protesters injured in clashes with police. Amnesty Kenya's executive director Irungu Houghton told Reuters the 16 who were killed on Wednesday had all died of gunshot wounds, suspected to have been inflicted by police officers. The police have not given an account of casualties or of any shooting. Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Smoke was billowing from at least 10 torched buildings in downtown Nairobi on Thursday morning. "Look: everything they burnt. So please government, try talking to the Gen Z. Because that this happened (because) of Gen Z. So the Gen Z, try to sit down and talk with the government," said Ibrahim Hamisi, owner of one of the burnt buildings. Shopkeeper Josephine Apondi said "thugs" had looted 2 million shillings ($15,500) worth of phones and electronics from her Nairobi shop. "Things are so tough in our country right now. Sometimes we come morning until evening and we have not sold. And to remember this is something you have invested in for so long," she said. Kenyan media also reported cases of destruction and looting in 26 other counties where protests took place. Prosecutors have approved murder charges against six people, including three police officers, in the case of the blogger Ojwang, 31, who died after being arrested as part of an investigation triggered by a complaint by the deputy national police chief, Eliud Lagat. All six defendants have pleaded not guilty. Reuters has been unable to reach Lagat for comment.
