Michael Busch Hits 3 HRs, Cubs Set Club Record With 8 in 11-3 Rout of Cardinals
Busch finished 4 for 4 with five RBIs. Crow-Armstrong also went 4 for 4, and Dansby Swanson launched a two-run homer during a Cubs power barrage that had the crowd of 40,038 at Wrigley Field roaring.
Seiya Suzuki and Carson Kelly added solo shots as the NL Central leaders hit six homers in the first three innings off Miles Mikolas (4-6), a record for most home runs off a Cardinals pitcher in one game. The eight longballs allowed by St. Louis also broke a club mark.
Brendan Donovan led off the fourth with a home run against Colin Rea, ending a 31-inning scoreless streak for the Cardinals. St. Louis, which dropped its fourth straight, was shut out in its three previous losses.
That was the only hit Rea (6-3) allowed in 6 2/3 innings, matching his longest outing this season.
Mikolas (4-6) was tagged for eight runs and 10 hits over six innings in losing his fourth in a row.
Suzuki drilled his team-leading 24th homer and Crow-Armstrong followed with his first of the game in the first. Busch and Kelly hit consecutive drives in the second, giving Chicago nine sets of back-to-back homers this season and a 4-0 lead.
Crow-Armstrong launched his 23rd homer off Wrigley Field's right-field video board in the third. After Swanson singled, Busch hit the board with a two-run shot that made it 7-0.

It was Crow-Armstrong's fourth multihomer game this season and the fifth of his career. The 23-year-old center fielder was elected this week to start the All-Star Game.

2025 NFC West RB duo rankings
See how the four RB duos in the NFC West stack up against each other entering the 2025 season. It is the time of the offseason, as we have done for years here on Cards Wire, where we go through each position and rank players and position groups in the NFC West. We continue by looking at the top running back duos for the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. Not much has changed since last season. The only difference from the start of last season is that the 49ers now have Isaac Guerendo as the primary backup running back instead of Elijah Mitchell or Jordan Mason. 1. 49ers: Christian McCaffrey, Isaac Guerendo Based on our starting running back and backup running back rankings, this makes sense. McCaffrey is the top starting back in the division, assuming he has recovered fully from last season's injuries. Guerendo is the top backup, too. With the top starter and top backup, combined with probably the best running scheme in the league, this makes sense. 2. Cardinals: James Conner, Trey Benson Conner was third in the starting RB rankings we did behind the Rams' Kyren Williams, but it wasn't by much. He is been a more dynamic and efficient runner than Williams but not as productive. Benson is No. 3 in backups but has starter potential and his production late in the season gives the Cardinals a pairing very similar to the Niners. 3. Seahawks: Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet Walker was the lowest-ranked starter but Charbonnet was No. 2 as a backup. Both are productive in the run game and passing game. 4. Rams: Kyren Williams, Blake Corum Williams had nearly 1,300 yards and rushed for 14 scores but Corum had the lowest rushing production and per-carry average of all the backups. Chicago Cubs' Matthew Boyd strikes out 9 in 5 innings against the St. Louis Cardinals en route to 11-0 win
Matthew Boyd struck out nine in five innings hours after being named to his first All-Star team, helping the Chicago Cubs rout the St. Louis Cardinals 11-0 on Sunday night at Wrigley Field. Boyd (0-3) allowed only three hits and lowered his ERA to 2.52. The Cubs got on the board early, then surged ahead with a five-run third inning. They scored a run in each of the first five innings to jump out to an 11-0 lead. Nico Hoerner was 3 for 4 with three runs and finished a home run shy of the cycle. Seiya Suzuki and Pete Crow-Armstrong were each 2 for 5, with Suzuki hitting his 25th home run. Cardinals starter Erick Fedde (3-9) pitched just 1 1/3 innings before being replaced with the bases loaded. He allowed three earned runs. With the bases loaded in the second inning, Kyle Tucker grounded a single into the outfield, scoring a pair of runs to put the Cubs up 3-0. The Cubs were 5 for 18 with runners in scoring position. The Cardinals were 0 for 7. The Cubs are at Minnesota on Tuesday, with LHP Shota Imanaga (5-2, 2.78 ERA) on the mound. The Cardinals are set to host Washington on Tuesday, with RHP Andre Pallante (5-4, 4.10) slated to start.
