Kuala Lumpur: The government has pushed back the deadline for the rollout of the RON95 targeted subsidies, initially fixed for the second half of this year. Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said more time was needed to fine-tune the mechanism to prevent leakage.

'He wants to ensure that the majority of the public is not adversely impacted by current policies or those that have yet to be implemented. 'The mechanism is being fine-tuned, which is why there is a slight delay (in the rollout),' he said at a press conference. In June, finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan said the government would implement the targeted RON95 subsidy in stages this year but did not give any specifics. On July 1, Amir said the government was working on getting petrol station operators to upgrade their systems for the RON95 subsidy rationalisation scheme to ensure that there would be no queues at the pump. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Over 300 entrepreneurs attend Madani seminar
Published on: Wednesday, July 23, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jul 23, 2025 By: Sisca Humphrey Text Size: Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick officiated the event. PENAMPANG: Over 300 Sabah entrepreneurs attended the first Madani Entrepreneurs Seminar: e-Invoice on Tuesday, aimed at boosting awareness of the government's mandatory e-Invoice system. The one-day seminar, organised by the National Entrepreneurship Institute (Insken), took place at the Penampang Cultural Hall here. The programme focused on helping micro and small businesses understand e-Invoicing processes required by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN). Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick officiated the event. Insken Board of Trustees Chairman Mustaffa Kamil Ayub said the success of e-Invoicing depends on both awareness and proper understanding among entrepreneurs. 'Without awareness, change is difficult and without knowledge, implementation will be shaky,' he said. He urged entrepreneurs to embrace change, keep learning and stay responsive to current market needs. Insken Chief Executive Officer Viviantie Sarjuni said a total of 900 entrepreneurs are expected to benefit through three seminar series, with the coming sessions in Kuching and the Klang Valley. 'Today's turnout shows that small business owners are eager to adapt and comply with digital systems like e-Invoicing,' she said. The seminar was supported by the Ministry of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Sabah (Mide), the Department of Women's Affairs Sabah Jhewa, the Armed Forces Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (Perhebat), the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) Sabah and other state-level agencies and non-governmental organisations. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? More women holding top Sabah Government posts
Published on: Wednesday, July 23, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jul 23, 2025 Text Size: James also expressed appreciation to the outgoing main and sub-committee members of the Sabah Women Advisory Council (MPWS) for the 2021–2024 term, who played a vital role in designing and implementing strategic women empowerment programmes, including AKWan. Kota Kinabalu: About 33 per cent of women in Sabah have held the position of Deputy State Secretary as of July 16 this year, while 30pc have served as permanent secretaries in ministries and 50pc as heads of departments. During the same period, women also made up 26pc of board members and chief executive officers (CEOs) in government-linked companies (GLCs). State Community Development and People's Wellbeing Minister Datuk James Ratib said this when officiating the Women's Leadership Course (AKWan) 2024 graduation ceremony for its second cohort, here. His speech was read by the Ministry's Permanent Secretary Datuk Maria Chong. A total of 171 participants completed the course this year, the majority of whom were grassroots leaders and women activists from various local organisations. James said AKWan empowers women's role in State development by producing capable female leaders. He said since its establishment in 2021, AKWan has served as a strategic platform for women's development, not only offering leadership exposure but also boosting participants' confidence and readiness to take on decision-making roles at both state and national levels. 'Data from the 2024 AKWan cohort shows that most participants are grassroots leaders actively involved in various organisations, indicating that women are increasingly prepared to take on leadership responsibilities,' he said. 'Today's graduates represent the next generation of brave, knowledgeable and high-potential women leaders who will drive community development,' he added. He also urged the graduates to embrace leadership roles in politics, public service, GLCs and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). James also expressed appreciation to the outgoing main and sub-committee members of the Sabah Women Advisory Council (MPWS) for the 2021–2024 term, who played a vital role in designing and implementing strategic women empowerment programmes, including AKWan. 'Their commitment is clearly reflected in areas such as education, entrepreneurship, community leadership and social development, areas that position women as agents of change,' he said. James also announced upcoming programmes under MPWS and the Sabah Women's Affairs Department (Jhewa), such as the Women Leaders Symposium, Engagement with Sabah's Women Leaders and Women's Lab, which aim to further strengthen the women's leadership ecosystem in the State. Also present were Chief Executive Officer of the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) and MPWS Chairperson Datuk Rosmawati Lasuki, as well as Jhewa Director Haslina Ismail. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? No maritime border change without Sabah's consent: Shafie
Published on: Wednesday, July 23, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jul 23, 2025 By: Abbey Junior Text Size: Shafie said Sabah's claim over areas such as Sipadan and Ligitan had previously been upheld at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) based on strong legal and historical evidence, including British-era records and community presence on the islands. Kota Kinabalu: Any decision on maritime boundary changes, particularly involving the Ambalat Block, must go through the Sabah Legislative Assembly and cannot be decided unilaterally by the Chief Minister, says Warisan President Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal. Raising the issue in Parliament on Tuesday, the Semporna MP reminded the Government that Sabah has historical, legal and constitutional rights that must be upheld, citing Article 2 of the Federal Constitution, which requires consent from the State Assembly for any border amendments. 'This is about trust in nation-building. The law must be enforced. The Chief Minister does not have the absolute power to agree on maritime boundary shifts, whether in Sulawesi or elsewhere,' he said. He stressed that while Sabah's legal team may be involved in negotiations with Indonesia, all decisions must be democratically approved by the State Assembly. Shafie said Sabah's claim over areas such as Sipadan and Ligitan had previously been upheld at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) based on strong legal and historical evidence, including British-era records and community presence on the islands. On the economic front, Shafie criticised the longstanding imbalance in petroleum revenue sharing, saying Sabah has only received five per cent oil royalties since the Petroleum Development Act 1974 came into force. 'During my time as Chief Minister, we imposed a sales tax — that's how the Government earned an additional RM2 billion to RM3 billion,' he said, adding that maritime development talks must also clarify what economic benefits Sabah would receive. 'Will there be jobs? Will upstream or downstream activities be offered to Sabahans? We don't want Sabahans questioning the returns while others benefit,' he said. He called on the Prime Minister to be transparent about what Sabah stands to gain from any negotiations involving maritime development with Indonesia. 'This country would not have been formed without Sabah and Sarawak. If this region contributes to Malaysian territory, then we must ensure Sabah is not sidelined,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
