NRL star to comes out of Origin retirement for Qld Maroons in Game 3
Queensland are reportedly set to make a stunning selection call for the State of Origin decider, with veteran prop Josh Papalii set to be a shock inclusion for Game 3.
According to Code Sports, Papalii is expected to come out of Origin retirement and be named on Maroons coach Billy Slater's team sheet on Monday morning.

The 33-year-old played 23 games for Queensland from 2013 to 2022 and was seen as Queensland's most intimidating enforcers.
Papalii, who has also played 11 Tests for Australia and 10 Tests for Samoa, announced his retirement from representative football in 2023 when he knew he was going to be overlooked for Origin selection.
The beloved prop is enjoying a fairytale season, having recently scored in his 300th NRL game for Canberra as the Raiders chase their first premiership in 31 years.
His strong form at club level has put him back on Slater's radar and Papalii is tipped to start for Queensland in Game 3 in Sydney on July 9.
Papalii is being backed to start the game with a 25-minute burst at prop alongside Tino Fa'asuamaleaui.
Code Sports reports Titans prop Mo Fotuaika is set to be dropped to make way for Papalii's unlikely return to Queensland's starting side.
The shock selection call will add grunt and fear factor to the Maroons, who are aiming to clinch an unlikely series win and claim a third Origin shield in four years.
An injury to Kalyn Ponga has also opened the door for Reece Walsh to return for Queensland, while Hamiso Tabui-Fidow has pressed his case for the No. 1 jersey with a four-try outing for the Dolphins.
The surprise selection news is in stark contrast to NSW, who have named an unchanged 17 for Game 3.
NSW's forward pack came under scrutiny in Perth, with Max King's position at starting prop under question following the injury to Mitch Barnett that left a hole in the team.
Stefano Utoikamanu's spot in the team was also seen as under threat, but Daley has stuck to his guns, ignoring calls to bring Rabbitohs gun Keaon Koloamatangi or Tigers recruit Terrell May in to do a job at prop.
Fox League commentator Andrew Voss said on SEN after Game 2: 'Stefano Utoikamanu is gone. I'm rubbing him out for Game 3. Max King is not a starting Origin front rower. So there's a starting front rower spot up for grabs for NSW.
'I don't think you can go with the same starting 13 again. You can't go with Max King if you're only giving him that many minutes.'
Daley has reportedly added Sharks second rower Teig Wilton and Parramatta forward Jack Williams to the extended squad for the 10-day camp before the decider at Sydney's Accor Stadium. Gold Coast's Brian Kelly has also been added to the squad.
That trio aren't expected to be included in the final 20-man squad but will come into camp as experience and to run opposition at NSW training.
On top of those two additions, Dolphins halfback Isaiya Katoa has been brought into NSW's squad as insurance for Nathan Cleary, who is managing a thigh/groin injury.
Katoa, 21, has been in blistering form for the Dolphins and has been given the nod over Broncos veteran Adam Reynolds as the back-up halfback.
Brian To'o, Jarome Luai and Payne Haas have all been cleared to play.

Carlton's dramatic collapse embodied in Jay Clark's Top 50 AFL players of 2025
The fall of the Blues is well and truly complete. A highly-touted premiership fancy just a year ago, Carlton's biggest stars have fallen off the proverbial cliff. Now, Patrick Cripps, Charlie Curnow and Jacob Weitering are on the outside looking in at Jay Clark's mid-year Top 50 players in the AFL. Cripps, the Blues' skipper, finished No. 1 in Mark Robinson's Top 50 to close 2024, but is emblematic of his side's dramatic drop-off in 2025, languishing outside the top eight with a record of 6-9 after 16 rounds. Star defender and 2024 All-Australian Jacob Weitering was torched by Port star Mitch Georgiades on Thursday night, after choosing to bravely play despite suffering what appeared to be a serious ankle injury against the Kangaroos the week prior. Curnow's output, despite once again being Carlton's leading goalkicker has come under fire in recent weeks, with Fox Footy's Garry Lyon questioning his desire. 'Charlie Curnow for me has been one of the great frustrations this year,' Lyon recently said on AFL 360. 'When you get to times like this, you go to the leaders, and Patrick (Cripps) leads — so Patrick leads and then the next rung down is Charlie. 'He plays like a third or fourth half-forward flanker … this is your main man. This is the man who should stand up and say we're going down here, but I will get to every contest, I will work myself into the ground. 'There's seven games this year where he hasn't laid a tackle, he's got to be better than this. He doesn't get to enough contests. He doesn't want to be the man.'

'That's unsafe for players': Freo coach holds SCG fears
Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir has expressed concerns about the state of the SCG turf, saying he is worried his players will be put at an elevated risk of injury if they are forced to play there on Sunday. AFL bosses are weighing up the option of moving Sunday's Fremantle-Sydney game away from the SCG after players continually slipped at the venue in the Western Bulldogs' win over the Swans on Friday night. The surface has been below its best since a concert at the venue by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli in April. Particular concern during the Swans-Dogs clash centred on the Paddington end of the ground. Between 35mm to 90mm of rain is forecast for Sydney on Tuesday in what will further hamper the hopes of having the SCG turf up to scratch. Fremantle's finals hopes last year were torpedoed by a series of injuries to key players late in the season, and Longmuir fears his team will be at risk if they have to play at the SCG on Sunday. "I watched the game on Friday night, and we'll be led by the AFL, but the moment my brain goes to, 'That's unsafe for players', I have a concern," Longmuir said. "And I went there on Friday night. I thought it was a bit unsafe, especially down the left hand side." Longmuir made mention of an incident in which Bulldog Bailey Williams' foot was caught in the turf."I think the Bailey Williams one - we just can't put players out there and risk their safety if the ground's not right," he said. Longmuir says he will abide by the AFL's decision."If the AFL deem it safe to play, we'll play, and I won't speak another moment of it," Longmuir said. "The AFL approached us and they're going to look at it, like they should, and they've got the experts and will be guided by them. "But I thought it was unsafe the other night." Fremantle (10-5) are just percentage adrift of third spot following a six-match winning run. But their thrilling 11.15 (81) to 9.15 (69) win over St Kilda on Sunday came with an injury cost, and in a bizarre manner. Fremantle veteran Nat Fyfe was the sub, but he felt tightness in his calf while warming up at half-time and the Dockers decided against sending him on. Fyfe was set to feature in his fourth match back after recovering from a hamstring injury, and the Dockers will be hoping his latest setback isn't serious. "It's a bit of a concern, of course," Longmuir said. "But we'll see how he pulls up, get it scanned if we need to, and see where it takes us. "But from what I understand, it's pretty minor and we didn't have to bring him on."

Papalii gets Origin comeback for ages, Hammer new No.1
Canberra veteran Josh Papalii has been ushered out of State of Origin retirement to give Queensland's forward pack fire and brimstone in the State of Origin decider. Papalii called time on his Origin career ahead of the 2023 series but will be named at starting prop when Billy Slater unveils his 17 for Origin III on Monday. The 33-year-old prop has been instrumental in the first-placed Raiders' charge up the ladder this year and will add extra vigour to Queensland's pack come July 9 in Sydney. Gold Coast prop Moeaki Fotuaika has been axed from a forward group who have struggled to match it with NSW in this series. The selection shock comes as the Maroons recall Brisbane star Reece Walsh as 18th man and put faith in Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow as Kalyn Ponga's injury replacement at fullback. The biggest surprise in the Maroons side is the elevation of Broncos journeyman Shibasaki to partner Robert Toia in the centres after a season where the 27-year-old has scored 12 tries in 15 appearances to ressurect his career. Tabuai-Fidow has played in the Queensland backline for the previous two games of the series and has helped the Dolphins rise into finals calculations following a poor start. His four tries in the 50-28 win over South Sydney at No.1 in round 17 sealed the deal. He has never started at fullback in nine Origin games but shifted there minutes into the 2024 series opener when Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii's high tackle sidelined Walsh. Tabuai-Fidow, who scored three tries that day, has indicated he is eager for another chance at fullback in Origin. "To have that No.1 on my back would be super special for me," Tabuai-Fidow said after the Dolphins' win over the Rabbitohs in his 100th NRL game. Walsh has been instrumental in reigniting Brisbane's season, with the Broncos winning all three games since he returned from the knee injury that scuppered his Origin chances earlier in the series. On Sunday morning, Maroons coach Billy Slater indicated he held no concerns over any lingering issues from the injury, pointing to Saturday's win over the Warriors. "I thought he moved quite well yesterday. The thing with Reece is he's dangerous with the footy in hand," Slater said on Channel Nine's Sunday Footy Show. "But he's also dangerous by bringing others into the game." Walsh can also slot into the halves if need be and is the ideal 18th man. Maroons back Valentine Holmes downplayed a minor leg injury that prevented him from kicking goals towards the end of St George Illawarra's win over Parramatta. He will be named on the wing as planned. "It was just a little contusion on my knee, nothing bad, I obviously could still run," said Holmes, who rescinded goal-kicking duties on Saturday night. "I was just half looking after myself, making sure I'm not doing anything unnecessary."
