Ranking the uniforms in the Women's College World series
The Women's College World Series gets underway on Thursday in Oklahoma City, with eight teams hoping to put their best foot forward in hopes of securing a national championship.
The Oklahoma Sooners are hoping to become the first team to win five straight national titles but will face significant challenges from Texas, Florida, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Oregon, UCLA, and Ole Miss. It's one of the best events in college sports, as over the next week and a half, softball will take center stage. As the teams take the field, so will some iconic uniforms. From classics to alternates, there will be some fantastic fits on display in Oklahoma City. Who has the best?
8. Florida Gators
When you think of the Florida Gators, this is what you picture. It's a uniform that looks like something you'd expect out of a team from Florida. It's a solid look but not quite as nice as some of the others in the Women's College World Series.
7. Oregon Ducks
The Oregon football team has some of the best looks in college sports. This is the softball team's best uniform. It looks like a storm's brewing and with the way the Ducks have played this season, it's fitting. The only knock is that the all-green and all-yellow looks don't come together quite like some of the other solids in Oklahoma City.
6. Ole Miss Rebels Powder Blue
There's a lot of blue on the list, but the Ole Miss Powder Blue is about as good as it gets.
5. UCLA Blue and Gold
UCLA is one of the blue bloods of the sport and their UCLA Blue evokes memories of a long history of success in college softball. They get the blue bump over Ole Miss simply out of respect for what UCLA Blue and Gold have meant to the sport.
4. Texas Longhorns' Icy White
The all-whites are a great look, and not only because it minimizes the amount of burnt orange one has to see, but it's reminiscent of their best football look as well.
3. Texas Tech's All Black
Few athletic programs wear black as well as Texas Tech. With red script and accents, it's an ominous look, especially when the best pitcher in the game, NiJaree Canady, is standing in the circle.
2. Oklahoma Sooners All-Crimson
The Oklahoma Sooners have a lot of really good looks, but none as clean as their all-crimson fit. It's strong and powerful, much like this team.
1. Tennessee Volunteers 'Summitt Blue'
When you think of Tennessee, you may not think of the blue they wore to clinch their super regional over Nebraska, but their "Summitt Blue," named after the Lady Vols legendary women's basketball coach Pat Summitt, is fantastic. The white accents, along with the orange lettering, are a great look.

Oklahoma Sooners running back room among the best in the nation

There's a lot to like about the Oklahoma Sooners' offense heading into 2025; at least on paper. They have one of the more exciting backfields in the nation after adding John Mateer and Jaydn Ott through the transfer portal. But it goes beyond Ott, who was voted to the All-SEC second team; the Oklahoma running back room is deep. Pro Football Focus college football analyst Max Chadwick believes the Sooners have one of the top 10 running back rooms in the nation going into 2025. It starts with Ott. He had a 1,300-yard season back in 2023 and has the game-breaking ability to create big plays for the Sooners' offense. The running back workload won't be completely on Ott as Oklahoma brings back Jovantae Barnes, Xavier Robinson, and Taylor Tatum as well. Barnes had 700 total yards and six touchdowns for the Sooners last season. His effort and energy gave Oklahoma a boost in the second half of the season, leading the way for an offense that was mostly stagnant last year. The Sooners have high expectations for their second-year running backs Xavier Robinson and Taylor Tatum. Both showed flashes of being big-time producers at the collegiate level despite an offensive line that struggled for much of the 2024 season. Then there's true freshman Tory Blaylock, who was a four-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. He's just a true freshman, but his speed, agility, and balance could force the Sooners to put him on the field. Fall camp is going to provide some interesting competition for the running back hierarchy, but it looks like DeMarco Murray and the Oklahoma Sooners have a lot of talent to work with. Should Boston Celtics fans be upset with Marcus Smart of joining the Lakers?

Marcus Smart has joined the Los Angeles Lakers. The former Boston Celtics fan favorite has signed a two-year $11 million deal with JJ Redick's roster, where he will team up with LeBron James and Luka Doncic. Brad Stevens ended Smart's tenure with the Celtics during the summer of 2023, shipping him to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of the three-team trade that landed Kristaps Porzingis with the franchise. As such, Celtics fans can't be too upset with the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year. Since leaving Boston, Smart has struggled to stay healthy. The Lakers give him a chance to get his career back on track while challenging for a championship. Nevertheless, it will be weird seeing the combative guard wearing the Purple and Gold of Boston's bitter rivals. In a recent episode of the "First to the Floor" podcast, the hosts discussed the shock news before looking at the move through Smart's eyes and how it can help his career. They also discussed the overall fan sentiment and how the current reaction appears to be split online. You can watch the full podcast episode by clicking on the embedded video above. Pat McAfee plays ‘girl dad' card as he finally apologizes for role in disturbing Mary Kate Cornett scandal

Pat McAfee is making his amends. The ESPN host offered up an apology to Mary Kate Cornett during Wednesday's episode of his titular show, five months after he brought up a rumored scandal involving the 18-year-old Ole Miss student. 'As a lot of you know, on February 26 of this year, we were down at the [NFL Scouting] Combine on this particular program,' he said. 'We discussed a very viral internet story about an Ole Miss college student. We weren't clear at that time where the story originated from. It was all over the internet, yet by the time we talked about it, the story was everywhere. I have since learned that the story was not true, and that my show played a role in the anguish caused to a great family, and especially to a young woman, Mary Kate Cornett. Pat McAfee offered up a live on-air apology to Mary Kate Cornett on Wednesday. Pat McAfee Show/YouTube 'I think you all know from tuning into this program that I never want to be a source of negativity or contribute to another human's suffering. And I can now happily share with you that I recently got to meet Mary Kate and her family. And I got a chance to sincerely apologize to them and acknowledge that what I said about Mary Kate was based solely on what others were saying on the internet, or what had previously been reported by others, and that we had no personal knowledge about Mary Kate or her personal life.' Cornett, her family and her boyfriend all denied the salacious rumor, which accused Cornett of sleeping with her boyfriend's father. The rumor took the internet by storm, and Cornett specifically called out McAfee, former NFL receiver Antonio Brown and Barstool Sports for amplifying the gossip, though Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy noted it never appeared on any official channels. Instagram/olemiss2029classbios The teen and her family also hired legal representation and forensic data investigators to look into the matter, said she filed reports with the University of Mississippi campus police, local authorities and the FBI, and threatened McAfee and ESPN with legal action. McAfee, who did not name Cornett on his show, seemed to address the incident during his 'Big Night Aht' at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh in April, but carefully avoided mentioning specifics. That wasn't the case on Wednesday, when he brought up his meeting with the Cornett family and the personal elements at play. 'As a girl dad, I also was very thankful for the opportunity to let Mr. Cornett know that I was wildly regretful for the part that our show, our program, played in his daughter, Mary Kate's, pain,' he said. 'I know many of you are wondering why I, or we, haven't addressed this topic until now. It's a fair question. But as you might imagine, there was a lot going on behind the scenes since this all happened. The most important element on the timing is that I, personally, it was a decision I made, wanted to talk to the family first before addressing it publicly. And I can now say that I had the opportunity to meet them, chat with them, and they're wonderful people. And I'm very thankful that they gave me the opportunity to tell them how sorry I was that this all happened, and that our program was a part of this. 'I deeply regret all the pain that this caused. I hated watching what our show as a part of, in her interviews and reading about it. And my hope is that this can be something that we all learn from going forward. I know we certainly have. Our goal at this show is to make the world a happier place, a better place. To celebrate life and sports and unify folks. I, and we, don't always get it right. But we'll never stop trying.'
