Al-Hilal were reportedly ready to pay United a £100million fee.
However, Fernandes, 30, insisted that he wants to remain in Europe and play at the 'top level'.
And while his decision could cost him hundreds of millions of pounds, latest accounts for his image rights firm show he has tucked away £8million in off-pitch earnings.
Paperwork covering the 2023/24 season shows the attacker has piled up £8.3million in BF8 Sports Limited, the firm he used for off-field pay.

EXCLUSIVE Revealed: Why Premier League clubs are ready to spend big on transfers THIS WEEK - with Man United set for positive conclusion in race for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo
The transfer window is set to hot up this week - following the arrival of the new reporting year under the Premier League 's financial rules. Mail Sport understands that a number of clubs have deals on hold until they can register the spend on 2025-26's accounts rather than 2024-25. This year's window has, so far, been slow-paced with relatively few high-profile moves aside from Liverpool 's £116m swoop for Florian Wirtz and Manchester United 's £62.5m capture of Wolves ' Matheus Cunha. Manchester City have been the most active, with Pep Guardiola undertaking a flurry of activity ahead of the Club World Cup as he seeks to rebuild his squad. However, that situation is now likely to change, with sides already at the limit on this year's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) hanging fire until Tuesday. Many do not want to fall foul of the regulations, which can result in the ultimate sanction of points deductions. Meanwhile, sources have disclosed that United's pursuit of Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo is set to lead to a positive conclusion. United have lodged two failed bids for the Cameroonian forward, the last of which was £55m plus £7.5m in add-ons. It is understood that the Bees believe 25-year-old Mbeumo is worth more than Cunha, a theory they believe is backed up by statistics from his time in west London. Mbeumo scored 20 goals to Cunha's 15 last season, and seven assists to the Brazilian's six. United feel they have offered a fair price, but the player has told his club he wants to move to Manchester and a breakthrough is the expected outcome, according to those with knowledge of the situation.

Third Viktor Gyokeres boost for Man Utd as striker 'gets listed for £25.6m'
Manchester United have received more good news in their quest to sign Viktor Gyokeres, who looks increasingly likely to leave Sporting CP this summer, as Arsenal look elsewhere Manchester United have received fresh boosts in their quest to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer. Ruben Amorim, who managed the Swedish striker at Sporting CP, is still looking to add to his attacking options, having already snapped up Matheus Cunha. Despite his relationship with Amorim, Arsenal appeared to be ahead of United in the queue to sign Gyokeres, who has scored an incredible 97 goals in 102 games since signing for the Portuguese giants from Coventry City in 2023. However, the Gunners, who are desperate to land a top-class number nine this summer, may feel compelled to focus on another target, which would be excellent news for United. Benjamin Sesko could be a more realistic target and a cheaper option after RB Leipzig dropped their asking price from £68million-£85m to around £59.7m, according to German outlet Bild. With the Gunners looking elsewhere, United could have an opportunity to swoop and make a statement signing ahead of Amorim's first full season. And in a fresh boost for United, Sporting appear to be making plans for life after Gyokeres, who is at odds with the club over his price tag. With their star striker's future up in the air, the Lisbon side have reportedly set their sights on Union Saint-Gilloise striker Franjo Ivanovic as a potential replacement. Per Sporting have lodged a bid of around £17m, which is short of the Belgian champions' valuation of £25.6m. Besiktas and Frankfurt, plus clubs in Italy, are also said to be interested in Ivanovic, who netted 20 goals for the Belgian champions last season. Sporting landing a striker with a strong goalscoring record for less than £30m may also help United in their negotiations for Gyokeres, who is at odds with the Sporting hierarchy over his price tag. It had been reported that the player believes he has a verbal agreement with the club whereby he can be sold for a fee worth £59m. Sporting president Frederico Varandas has denied that such an arrangement exists but has confirmed that the club did promise the 27-year-old they would not hold out for the full value stated in the release clause, believed to be almost £85m. And in a fresh boost to United this weekend, Varandas admitted that there is a "strong likelihood" Gyokeres will leave the club this summer and for a possible discounted fee. He said: "Sporting is calm regarding this matter. Secondly, Sporting does not need to sell Viktor Gyokeres. Fortunately, we have moved past the phase of selling our main asset. "However, we remain sensitive to Viktor's dreams or those of any other athlete. Sporting has made a commitment that, after weeks of meetings, we will not demand the full amount of the clause; we will be reasonable regarding the amount requested for Viktor. "Today, there is a strong likelihood that he will leave. I won't disclose the amount, but the player knows what it is. I can say that Viktor will not leave for 60+10m. He won't leave, absolutely not. "In recent weeks, we have been paying attention. I saw a player, [Martin] Zubimendi, who is six months younger than Viktor, go [potentially to Arsenal] for 65m, and I saw Matheus Cunha move to Manchester United for around 75m euros [£62.5m. We are talking about players who are 26 years old. I believe Viktor could leave, unless he has the worst agent in the world, which I don't believe, as his agent is one of the best in the world."

It is also reported that Fletcher had reservations about taking up the position in the past, with his twin sons Jack and Tyler playing at that age group. But they've now moved up to 21s, paving the way for Fletcher to begin his first steps in management. The role is currently vacant after Adam Lawrence left at the end last season to "seek a new challenge" following four years at the club. And Fletcher, who holds a UEFA A licence, is rated by sporting director Jason Wilcox and departing academy director Nick Cox who's becoming technical director at Everton. Fletcher made his playing debut in the Champions League in 2003 under Sir Alex Ferguson against Basel. The midfielder would go on to amass more than 300 games for the club, scoring 24 goals. He also played almost 100 games for West Brom and 42 for Stoke City towards the end of his career after recovering from ulcerative colitis. He was diagnosed with the debilitating bowel condition in 2011 and was forced to take time away from the game. He won five Premier League titles in a glittering career as well as the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup. Darren Fletcher says Walter Smith was behind Cristiano Ronaldo's transformation as kid at Man Utd The ex-midfielder returned to the Man Utd in 2020 to coach their under 16s and was promoted to first-team coach the following season. He then became a technical director in March 2021 for three years helping to bridge the gap between the academy and first team before being replaced by Jason Wilcox. He then returned to a coaching capacity under Eric ten Hag and Amorim before reportedly holding talks about current vacancy at the U18s managerial position.
