The end ‘confirmed' for Joe in Emmerdale as nemesis comes out of the shadows

Metro13 hours ago

An unexpected figure looms up in Emmerdale soon as Joe Tate (Ned Porteous)'s blackmail storyline reaches crunch point – and Joe finds himself in some very deep trouble.
Just as Joe was recovering from his surgery after stealing Caleb Miligan (William Ash)'s kidney, and was looking forward to a more settled future with Dawn (Olivia Bromley) and the kids and building a business empire with Kim Tate (Claire King), his car was keyed and he started getting blackmailing letters.
The kind of note that's made from cut-up bits of newspaper started appearing mysteriously around Home Farm bearing ominous messages.
And having made enemies of almost everyone in the village thanks to the kidney stealing and his actions leading to the deaths of three women in the limo crash, there were plenty of suspects.
'I think there's enough people in the village who have it in for Joe, who could warrant a reason to be blackmailing him,' Ned Porteous told us.
Soon the messages become demands for money – an eye-wateringly large sum, though Ned said that the cash wasn't the most worrying aspect for his character.
'It's less the money, more the idea that someone had got into the house because that's the feeling you've lost your safe bubble when someone breaks in to your kitchen and left the note. That's the home of the people that you really care about. He's more worried about the fact that his girl and her kids are going to be in danger.'
It's Joe who's in immediate danger when he gets into a dispute with his henchman, Shaun (James Boyland), who then turns on him threateningly. Joe is saved on that occasion by unlikely hero Sam Dingle (James Hooton).
But when Sam's not around, Shaun strikes again and hits Joe with a shovel, knocking him out cold.
And when he wakes up, he has a terrible realisation. He's in a makeshift hospital room with rogue surgeon Crowley (James Hillier) looming over him.
'He's very confused and very scared and not sure where he is. Getting knocked out by surprise is, I'm sure, not very fun and then waking up somewhere with this guy… it's a very powerless situation for Joe to be in, which he's not a fan of.'

Obviously this is a massive understatement as Joe is totally at the mercy of Crowley, who was the man Joe employed to illegally remove Caleb's kidney and transplant it into Joe. More Trending
So we know that he's not even on nodding terms with the Hippocratic oath and will do just about anything for money.
But what, specifically, does he have in mind for Joe? Is he taking his own revenge? Is he working for someone else?

Danny Dyer makes daughter Dani gasp with saucy honeymoon confession

Just back from her honeymoon, Dani Dyer was left speechless when her dad shared a saucy confession about his honeymoon with her mum. Danny Dyer has left daughter Dani horrified with his X-rated honeymoon confession. The Eastenders star left daughter Dani Dyer mortified this week after sharing an X-rated confession about his honeymoon with wife Jo - just as Dani returned from her own! ‌ On the latest episode of their podcast Live And Let Dyers, the Celebrity Big Brother winner opened up about her romantic getaway with new husband and West Ham star Jarrod Bowen while proud dad Danny managed to overshare in true Dyer fashion. ‌ Back from her sun-soaked trip to Lake Como, Dani revealed the newlyweds were hit with gloomy weather but still made the most of their honeymoon bubble. 'The weather was terrible, it rained for three days,' she tells Danny on the pod. 'But we were very lucky, because it always stopped raining when we went for lunch and for dinners and stuff.' While the couple had hoped for some sunbathing time, Dani admitted they swapped tanning for telly, champagne and baths. 'We just could never sunbathe, and there's not really much to do there,' she added. 'So, we just binged the whole series of MobLand. We ate and I'd just drink champagne and have loads of baths!' ‌ Still, the loved-up newlyweds enjoyed the downtime before Bowen heads back to football duties. 'It was actually so nice because obviously I was in such wedding blues - it was so nice to go away for a few days and just have lay ins and spend time together,' Dani says. 'It was just so nice. We was just so happy the whole time.' But it wasn't long before Danny spun the convo onto his honeymoon and things got very a little too honest. ‌ 'To be fair, you shouldn't really be getting out of bed a lot in your honeymoon because me and your mother ended up in Florence, and you know, we was appalling!' Danny said Leaving his daughter stunned. 'I mean, honestly, I look back on it and I think, 'f****** hell! How on Earth did I manage to get in those sorts of positions!'' Clearly shocked but cracking up at her father's oversharing, Dani responded: 'Oh, you're disgusting!' Danny fired back: 'What do you mean disgusting? There was two people sharing their love. Them days are long gone now!'

EastEnders fans slam jarring BBC couple who were not a match

Zack Hudson and Whitney Dean were a prominent couple on the show who planned to get married before Whitney discovered her partner's unfaithfulness. Things famously came to a head at their wedding ceremony when Britney revealed Zack had cheated on Whitney. A furious Whitney then attacked Lauren and Zack before storming out of the registry office, according to Digital Spy. EastEnders fans slam 'jarring' former couple who 'weren't a match' on the BBC show Taking on the EastEnders official Reddit page, the original poster asked: "Did anyone actually like Zack and Whitney being together?" Fans of the BBC soap opera were quick to express their dislike of the relationship, with one user writing: "Always jarred a bit for me - the storylines about Peach, the fostering, Britney etc were good, but as a couple they felt a bit flung together. Which was probably the point IDK." Another agreed, penning: "Yeah, I felt the same. I wasn't keen on them as a couple (despite them both producing some good work together) and felt they weren't a match, either personality or chemistry-wise. "But this was by design and what they wanted to portray (given that Shona has known she was going for most - if not all - of that time)." One user said: "I did feel like their relationship came out of nowhere. I don't remember them interacting at all, and then she suddenly had a crush on him. "I didn't really like Zack until the Peach storyline, I think he supported her as best he could, and he seemed like he genuinely cared about her. "I think if Shona hadn't wanted to leave, they would have stayed together. They seemed like a solid couple before the Britney stuff, and I thought they were good together." Another fan added: "No, because I was annoyed that they didn't pair Zack and Sam together. All that build up and nothing, what a waste of time that was." Another echoed this dislike, writing: "Never. Zack was a playboy, and Whitney was a hypocrite with Lauren after she got with Joey while she was in rehab. Recommended Reading: "The dig at her being an addict just before her and Zack got together was uncalled for, too." However, one fan went against the grain, telling the OP: "Yes, I liked them together and was annoyed when he cheated with Lauren. "I'm hoping they don't put him and Lauren together. I don't know why, but I feel he could get with Zoe when she returns to the square"

BBC reveals first-look images of Anna Maxwell Martin in harrowing new drama

Unforgivable, from Time creator Jimmy McGovern, follows one family as they try to come to terms with the devastating impact of grooming and sexual abuse The BBC has unveiled the first-look images for its new hard-hitting drama Unforgivable, showcasing actors Anna Friel, Bobby Schofield and Anna Maxwell Martin in their latest roles. Penned by Time writer Jimmy McGovern, the intense original drama delves into the consequences of grooming and sexual abuse on a family unit. ‌ First-look stills reveal Emmy-winner Anna Friel portraying a character also named Anna, Anne actor Bobby as Joe, Bafta-winners Anna Maxwell Martin as Katherine and David Threlfall playing Brian, with Adolescence actor Austin Haynes cast as Tom. ‌ Located and shot in Liverpool, Unforgivable casts the spotlight on the fictive Mitchell family as they grapple with the shattering impact of a vile act of abuse committed by one of their kin. Joe makes his way to a rehabilitation centre after completing his prison term, which provides him accommodation and help post-release, reports the Liverpool Echo. He takes on therapy sessions in the hope of understanding what led him to commit the abuse, and to face the consequences of his actions, while supported by ex-nun Katherine. At the same time, Joe's sister Anna is dealing with the effects his crime had on her family, including her sons Tom and Peter (Fin McParland) and her father Brian. The BBC has hinted: "The drama examines the extensive ripple effect of abuse from multiple perspectives and how those involved can try to move forwards in the midst of the devastation." ‌ Joining the line-up are Mark Womack, Paddy Rowan and Phina Oruche. BBC Drama Director Lindsay Salt previously offered an insight into what viewers can expect from the upcoming drama, stating: "Jimmy McGovern is one of our greatest dramatists, and a master at writing about today's world. ‌ "His new film sensitively examines the pain of abuse and how it affects not only the victim but ripples out across the whole family. To see it brought to the screen with such a high calibre cast and creative team is further testament to the quality of Jimmy's writing." Writer Jimmy expressed his enthusiasm as well: "I can't believe the cast and crew that have been assembled for this production. It's a challenging film, yes, but I can't wait for it to be shown." LA Productions' Executive Producer Colin McKeown also added his thoughts: "This is a profoundly challenging and sensitive subject, tackled with intelligence and care by Jimmy McGovern. It's a privilege to be working with him again following the success of our previous collaborations on single dramas: Common, Care, Reg and Anthony."
