Overturned rig blocks I-10; second truck crashes into wreck, FHP says

Yahoo15-06-2025
A tractor trailer on Interstate 10 in Gadsden County crossed the median, overturned and blocked oncoming traffic, causing another semi to wreck on the roadway, yet no one was hurt.
Here's what happened, according to the Florida Highway Patrol: A tractor trailer driven by a 24-year-old California man was headed east on the interstate around 10:30 p.m. on June 14.
Near mile marker 191 in Gadsden County, the driver ran off the roadway, overcorrected, causing the vehicle to overturn onto its side. It then skidded into the westbound lanes, blocking all of them.
Another semi, driven by a 61-year-old Doral man, was headed west at that moment and "took evasive actions ... to avoid a collision but was unsuccessful," slamming into the overturned tractor trailer, a news release said.
Neither truck driver was injured, nor was a 23-year-old passenger in the first truck, troopers said. The FHP does not name those involved in traffic crashes in its news releases.
The Highway Patrol said it was assisted by the Gadsden County Sheriff's Department, Midway Police Department, Gadsden County EMS, Midway Fire Department, Quincy Fire Department, Wetumpka Volunteer Fire Department and Gretna Fire Department.

Teen's Grandma Gifts Her a Brand New Car. Her Parents Want Her to Sell It to 'Make Things Fair' for Siblings

When her grandmother gave her a brand-new RAV4, one teen was thrilled, until her parents demanded she sell it to make things fair for her siblings A teen seeks advice from the Reddit community following a family dispute over a brand-new car her grandmother gifted her. In a post titled 'AITA for not returning the car my grandma got me,' the 18-year-old explains the complicated situation between her, her siblings and her parents. 'When my brother got his permit, my grandparents bought an almost new Prius and said it would be for both of us to share,' she writes. However, things didn't go as planned once she got her own license. She recalls that she was 'barely able to drive the car,' and when she finally got her license, her parents gave her 'a 12 year old civic because it would be too difficult for us to share a car.' She says it was all her parents could afford at the time, but her grandparents were not happy about how things turned out. 'My grandma said she picked that car out specifically for me,' the teen writes, adding that she has always been her grandmother's favorite because she's 'the only one that spends time with her or helps her out.' Her grandparents were disappointed that the original plan for the shared Prius didn't work and promised they would 'fix it' when she turned 18. Now 18, the teen says her grandma recently asked her what car she wanted. 'I told her I wanted a RAV4,' she writes, and just a week later, her uncle delivered a brand new RAV4 Hybrid to her driveway. The teen says the car means a lot to her emotionally as well. 'When I'm having a rough day I literally just go out and sit in the car. It's like my safe space,' she shares. However, her new vehicle sparked jealousy and tension within the family. Her parents believe the situation is unfair, saying there's 'a huge disparity between our cars.' Her grandmother, however, isn't backing down. She told the teen's parents that 'it wouldn't have happened if they would've either had us share the car or sold it and gotten us equal ones.' The teen says her brother is now pushing their parents to trade in his car for something similar to hers. But their parents, unable to afford such a car, are turning to her and asking her to sell the RAV4 and 'get something 'more appropriate' to make things fair.' 'I'm refusing because it was a gift from my grandma and I love it,' she writes. But her parents are not happy with her stance, and they're calling her 'self centered' and accusing her of not thinking of her siblings. The teen also notes that her 15-year-old sister isn't getting a car at all, which adds another layer of pressure. Still, her grandmother remains firm in her support, telling her, 'you deserve the car and they all suck.' Despite her grandmother's reassurance, the teen admits she's starting to feel conflicted. 'I'm starting to feel bad,' she says, before asking the community, 'AITA for not selling the car?' In the comments, one Redditor points out the root of the issue: 'Sounds like your brother made no effort to share the Prius and your parents didn't sell it and split the money.' They added that since the family 'went back on the deal, your grandparents made it right.' Read the original article on People Solve the daily Crossword

Tesla profits pulled down by falling EV sales and regulatory credits

Falling EV sales combined with a lower average selling price, less revenue from regulatory credits, and a decline in solar and energy storage revenue took a toll on Tesla's bottom line during the second quarter of 2025. And a 17% growth in revenue in its services business, which includes cash generated from its Supercharging network, wasn't enough to close the gap. The company reported Wednesday revenue of $22.5 billion, a 12% decline from the same period last year. The company's second quarter revenue results did show an improvement over the first quarter when it generated $19.3 billion in revenue and it was just barely above analysts expectations. Analysts polled by Yahoo Finance expected revenue in the second quarter to reach $22.13 billion. Net income, and more specifically operating income, is where the year-over-year gap grows larger. Tesla reported net income of $1.17 billion in the second quarter, a 16% drop from the $1.4 billion in net income in the same period last year. Tesla reported $409 million in net income during the first quarter of the year. Tesla's operating income fell 42% year-over-year to $923 million. Tesla's earnings are largely a reflection of falling sales — although fewer regulatory credits also played a role. The company brought in $439 million in regulatory credits in the second quarter, a 50% drop since the same period last year. Earlier this month, Tesla said it delivered 384,122 vehicles in the second quarter of this year, a 13.5% drop from the same period in 2024. Second-quarter sales were an improvement over the first quarter, however, when the company delivered 337,000 vehicles. Meanwhile, Tesla is facing regulatory and legal pressures that could further undermine its effort to reboot sales. The California Department of Motor Vehicles is arguing in a hearing that kicked off Monday that Tesla should lose its license to sell vehicles in the state over false advertising claims on its branded Autopilot and Full Self-Driving advanced driver assistance systems. Meanwhile, a civil lawsuit is playing out in a Florida courtroom over a fatal 2019 crash in which a Tesla driver using Autopilot plowed through an intersection and struck two people. The case, which will allow a jury to consider punitive damages, centers on how Autopilot is advertised to its customers. Tesla sees largest quarterly revenue drop in over a decade in Q2 earnings

Tesla revenue slipped 12% year over year in the second quarter of 2025 the company's July 23 earnings release showed. The company took in $22.5 billion in revenue, down from $25.50 billion in the second quarter of 2024. It is the company's largest revenue drop in over a decade, according to Reuters. The Elon Musk-helmed electric car manufacturer saw gross margin slip over a percent year-over-year, landing at 17.2%. The figure is a rebound from its first quarter readout of 16.3%. Deliveries in the second quarter of 2025 dropped year-over-year, continuing the trend seen in the first quarter. The company delivered 384,122 vehicles in the quarter compared to 443,956 in the second quarter of 2024. The shareholder materials called the quarter "a seminal point in Tesla's history" pointing to the company's expansion in artificial intelligence and robotics. "Despite a sustained uncertain macroeconomic environment resulting from shifting tariffs, unclear impacts from changes to fiscal policy and political sentiment, we continue to make high-value investments," the materials read. Musk and other executives are expected to speak on the company's earning call scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET. This is a developing story.
