Driver of tractor-trailer cab that drove off side of Delaware Memorial Bridge into Delaware River identified

The body of the driver who drove off the side of the Delaware Memorial Bridge and plunged into the Delaware River below was identified Monday. The driver was identified as 35-year-old Zair Murzakov of Brooklyn, New York, according to the Delaware River and Bay Authority. Officials also revealed the cab of the tractor-trailer that Murzakov was driving is registered to XFR8 LLC of West Chester Township, Ohio. Early Friday morning, the tractor-trailer cab was traveling on the downslope of the Delaware Memorial Bridge's southbound side when it crossed three lanes of traffic and struck a concrete barrier, breaking through and plunging into the water below. It's still unclear what exactly caused the crash. Search and rescue crews recovered the 35-year-old's body and the cab Saturday morning just after 11 a.m., according to the DRBA. The cab had previously been located during an initial search Friday. One major factor that helped responders act quickly: the crash was caught live on a traffic camera, which alerted crews in real time. "Anybody going over like that, there should be a retention wall for safety purposes," Troy Gross Sr. from Pennsville said. "So no truck can ever do that, no matter what the speed." No other vehicles were hit or went into the water in the crash. The crash is under investigation with the DRBA police department.

Crash on Chesapeake Bay Bridge causes July 4 delays

Authorities on Friday afternoon were warning drivers to expect delays on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge following a two vehicle crash. The westbound portion of the bridge reopened fully around 2:20 p.m. after being closed for about two hours, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority. The crash, which happened shortly before noon, involved a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer, officials said. A preliminary investigation suggests the passenger vehicle was traveling in the eastbound lane before it swerved into the westbound lanes and crashed into the tractor-trailer, authorities said.

1 hurt in windmill blade incident on Maryland highway

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. (WDCW) — A windmill turbine blade became loose Monday morning, crossing the median on Interstate 70 in Maryland and causing traffic to be backed up for several miles. According to Maryland State Police (MSP), troopers responded to I-70 West, near Interstate 81, just after 5 a.m. There, they learned that a tractor-trailer had been hauling a windmill blade west on I-70 when the blade became loose. The blade then ended up across the center median, blocking the eastbound lanes, according to state police. PHOTOS: Amazon truck catches fire in Virginia Officials initially said no one was hurt. But in an update around 8:50 a.m., state police confirmed with Nexstar's WDCW that one person was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. At least three lanes were blocked off on I-70 east and four lanes were also closed on I-70 west after the incident. Traffic cameras captured the bizarre scene as authorities directed traffic in both directions. Drivers traveling in the area could expect heavy delays as crews worked to remove the turbine from the highway. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
