'Love Island USA' watch parties have reached 'Super Bowl' levels of 'excitement'
In Washington, D.C., on July 8, fans gathered at the tropical-themed Royal Sands Social Club to enjoy food and drinks while watching the latest episode. The sold-out watch event was hosted by local event group Something Different.
"If you look inside the bar, it's ironically, very 'Love Island' themed, in a way, they have what looks to be like a villa of their own," co-founder Chance Albury told USA TODAY. "Being able to provide that atmosphere makes it an automatic draw."
Something Different hosts game nights, skate parties, and other community-focused events as an alternative to the city's robust nightlife scene. The bar exploded during Episode 32's dumping when Taylor and Clarke were sent home after receiving the fewest votes.
When Something Different dropped their initial flyer for the "Love Island" series, it was met with a good reaction.
"People love it. I remember the first one that we hosted. I was very shocked to see the outcome and the way that people engage with the show," Albury said. "I think that was incredible. It felt like a sports game."
'Love Island USA' Season 7 cast: See every islander so far
Triniti Lemmons, 25, said she felt a similar feeling during a watch party at Texas Live!, a bar in Arlington. The show was plastered on multiple jumbo screens inside the establishment.
"I'm a huge sports fan, so it honestly gave me the same excitement of watching an intense football game with a group of people," she stated. "I knew that going to the watch party, I'd get the chance to talk about what was going down in the episode in real time with my friends."
Lemmons decided to attend the event after seeing how "Love Island" watch parties were gaining traction online. The reality dating series centers around a group of contestants looking for love in a Fijian villa. The show airs six days a week on Peacock, keeping fans entertained and invested throughout the summer.
"This is my Super Bowl," tennis star Coco Gauff cheered in a recent TikTok video after fan favorites Nic and Olandria re-coupled up on the show.
The drama-filled Season 7, which premiered on June 3, has become a massive hit on the streaming platform. From viral moments to the growing fandom's in-depth discourse, it's hard to escape "Love Island" content on the timeline.
"Getting to watch it on such a big screen, as if I were at a movie theater, was just top tier," Lemmons added.
Craft and Yap founder Tiffany Menzies' "Love Island" watch party at Driftwoods Sports Grill, based in Phoenix, Arizona, on June 26, attracted an estimated 170 people.
"We filled the patio, and we even had some, like, overflow in another room where we put some TVs in case there was a demand for it, but people loved it," Menzies said.
"Everybody was chatting and watching it, and screaming and having reactions to the different scenes and challenges, so it was really fun."
The party featured specialty bites fitting for the occasion, like calamari rings called "Tentacles of Temptation" and "Love Triangles & Loaded Lies" waffle fries.
Whether attending solo or with friends, Menzies said people are seeking genuine community.
"It's just reality TV, but I think the bigger picture within it is that people just want to all be involved in something and chat with each other," she added. "It's nice to see people just relax and be silly and yell at the screens together over stupid stuff. Sometimes we need that."
There's no centralized place to search for "Love Island" watch parties, but social media has served as a bulletin board for many bars and restaurants hosting them across the country, capitalizing on local fans' interest.
And many organizers are getting creative. For instance, Something Different partnered with a medical spa to give attendees a "bombshell giveaway." They are offering winners a custom glow facial, two free lip fillers, and a tox sprinkle.
"Whether you're a bombshell looking to turn heads or just want to feel a little more muggy-season ready, we got you covered," the event group posted.
Although the watch parties are not as romantic as Huda's "dream" beach date, it is still a "cute" idea for Sunday's season finale.

'Emily in Paris' actor says he was devastated after being 'fired' from show: 'A tragedy'
Rupert Everett is saying au revoir to "Emily in Paris," but not by choice. The actor, who played designer Giorgio Barbieri in one episode of the Netflix show's fourth season, told Vanity Fair he was devastated to learn he will not be returning for Season 5. "I was fired," Everett, 66, claimed. "I did a scene in the latest season, and they told me, 'Next year we'll speak.' I waited for them to call me – but ultimately, it never came, and they just fired me." USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Netflix for comment. Everett indicated his departure from the show was due to script changes, and Vanity Fair cited a source who said his character's story reached its conclusion. "Show business is always very difficult, from the beginning to the end," he told the outlet. "When they write the screenplay, they think they want you – but then things change, and they lose your character. I don't know why." Still, Everett said he was upset about not being brought back. "For me, it was a tragedy. I was in bed for two weeks because I couldn't get over it," he said. Lily Collins stars in "Emily in Paris" as Emily Cooper, an American who moves to France for work. Everett made his debut on the show in its latest episode, released in September 2024. The Season 4 finale, "All Roads Lead to Rome," introduced Giorgio as an old friend of Emily's boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu). Social media weighs in on High Noon, Celsius mix-up
News that some popular canned cocktails were mislabeled as non-alcoholic energy drinks instantly drew online comparisons to a Willy Wonka-like golden ticket search. Meanwhile, others raised concerns about the mix-up's implications for people who are sober or abstaining from alcohol. High Noon issued a recall on July 29 for its Beach Variety 12-pack vodka seltzers after some cans were mislabeled as Celsius Astro Vibe Sparkling Blue Razz Edition drinks, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's website. "Consumption of the liquid in these cans will result in unintentional alcohol ingestion," the recall said. High Noon recall: Vodka seltzers mislabeled as Celsius energy drinks What to know about High Noon recall caused by Celsius cans High Noon said some Celsius cans were mistakenly filled with the alcoholic beverage. Some even compared such a discovery to "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." The famous children's series is based on a contest to find a golden ticket in order to tour Willy Wonka's factory. Some people, on the other hand, raised concerns about the possible implications that mixing up an energy drink with an alcoholic one could have. Justin Trudeau spotted at Katy Perry concert in Canada
Justin Trudeau raised eyebrows when he showed up solo to a Katy Perry concert this week. Multiple fan videos captured Trudeau watching Perry's Lifetimes Tour concert, seemingly alone, at Bell Centre in Montreal on July 30. In one clip, Trudeau – wearing a casual black T-shirt, a difference from the suits of his decadelong tenure as the 23rd prime minister of Canada – held onto a railing while watching Perry solo. In another, Trudeau danced along to "Teenage Dream," the 13-time Grammy nominee's hit 2010 song. USA TODAY has reached out to reps for Trudeau and Perry for comment. The Lifetimes concert tour began in Mexico City in April and is scheduled to end in December. The tour supports her latest album "143," which received mixed reviews from critics, though the tour has been a commercial success for Perry. Some fans are sparking romance rumors that first heated up when People and Page Six reported this week that Trudeau and the American singer were spotted on a walk and shared a surprising dinner at Le Violin, according to The New York Times, although there is no indication that it was a date. 'We can't say for certain it was a date, but they were in great spirits," restaurant co-owner and co-executive chef Danny Smiles told the Times. Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry breakup: Couple to focus on co-parenting daughter Daisy Perry announced her split in early July from ex-partner and actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares 4-year-old daughter Daisy. Representatives for Perry and Bloom, who had been engaged for six years, confirmed the couple's separation in a statement to USA TODAY on July 3. "Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry's relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting," the statement read. Katy Perry's Lifetimes tour will be fueled by espresso, 'California crunchy' diet, meditating "They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect," the statement from their representatives continued. Before she cozied up to Bloom, Perry was married to British comedian Russell Brand, but the couple divorced in 2012. She also previously dated musician John Mayer. Trudeau announced in early January that he would resign from his post. He had served as prime minister since 2015 and led the country's Liberal Party since 2013. In 2023, Trudeau split from his wife and the mother of his three children, Sophie Gregoire, whom he married in May 2005. Contributing: Edward Segarra, Marina Pitofsky, Eric Lagatta, USA TODAY; Reuters
