
Look up to see June's full strawberry moon, the Milky Way and multiple planets
The moon will be at its fullest at 3:44 a.m. ET Wednesday but will still appear bright and low in the east after sunset on Tuesday, as well as low in the west opposite the sunrise on Wednesday morning, per EarthSky.
The summer solstice falls this month, occurring on June 20, which means that the sun typically appears higher in the sky and moon seems closer to the horizon because the celestial bodies are positioned on opposite sides of Earth.
But this will also be the lowest full moon visible from the Northern Hemisphere in decades due to a phenomenon called a major lunar standstill, according to EarthSky. The standstill, when the moon is at its northernmost or southernmost point, occurs because the moon's orbit is slowly dragged around in an 18.6-year cycle by the gravitational pull of the sun. The phenomenon is referred to as a standstill because the moon appears to stop changing direction during this time, even though it's still moving in orbit, according to the Griffith Observatory.
Although the standstill occurred in January, it's still affecting our perspective of the full moon, according to EarthSky. The last major lunar standstill occurred in 2006.
Meanwhile, for those viewing the flip side of this phenomenon in the Southern Hemisphere, the full moon will reach its highest point.
While the silvery orb won't look anything like a berry, June's full moon got its moniker from indigenous tribes that were inspired by the sweet berries such as strawberries that ripen and reach their peak this time of year. Both the Anishinaabe and the Sioux people refer to this month's full moon as the strawberry moon. Meanwhile, the Creeks know it as the blackberry moon, and the Shawnee tribe calls it the raspberry moon.
The full moon won't be the only celestial sight to seek out in June's night sky.
The strawberry moon will also appear near the center of the Milky Way, according to NASA.The galaxy's bright center will be on annual display from June through August, known as 'Core Season' because the core of the Milky Way is visible, the agency shared.
Keep an eye out for a faint, hazy band resembling a cloud that seems to arc toward the south.
The band is best seen away from city lights under dark skies and will appear even more vivid through long-exposure photography.
Meanwhile, multiple planets will be visible in the sky this month.
Mars, Jupiter and Mercury will all appear low in the west after sunset. Look for bright Venus low in the eastern sky for about two hours before the sun rises all month long. The crescent moon and Venus will appear close together in the early morning eastern sky on June 22.
There are six more full moons to look out for in 2025, with supermoons occurring in October, November and December.

In the lead-up to fall, two eclipse events will grace the sky.
A total lunar eclipse will be most visible from Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, parts of eastern South America, Alaska and Antarctica on September 7 and 8, according to Time and Date. A lunar eclipse, which causes the moon to look dark or dimmed, occurs when Earth is between the sun and moon and the three celestial objects line up in a row so that the moon passes into our planet's shadow.

When the moon is within the darkest part of Earth's shadow, called the umbra, it takes on a reddish hue, which has led to the nickname 'blood moon' for a lunar eclipse, according to NASA. That shadow isn't perfect, so sunbeams sneak around the shadow's edges, bathing the moon in warm hues.
A partial solar eclipse will occur on September 21 as the moon moves between the sun and Earth but the celestial bodies aren't perfectly aligned, according to NASA. In this type of event, the moon only blocks part of the sun's face, creating a crescent shape in which it appears to take a 'bite' out of the sun. This event will be visible to more remote areas of Australia, Antarctica and the Pacific Ocean.

Whether you're scanning the eastern sky at dusk or venturing out before sunrise, there's something to see almost every night. The Perseids return, the Milky Way arches high overhead, and a rare 'planet parade' delivers four bright objects in the morning twilight. Here's everything you need to know about the night sky in August 2025: 1. A Full 'Sturgeon Moon' When: dusk on Friday and Saturday, August 8-9 Where: eastern horizon This month's full moon will occur early on Aug. 9, but both Aug. 8 and Aug. 9 will offer dramatic moonrises. Look east shortly after sunset to watch the sturgeon moon rise, appearing a lovely orange color. 2. Just to its right — about two degrees away, or roughly the width of a finger held at arm's length — you'll find the bright, bluish star Regulus shining at magnitude 1.3. The Next Planet Parade Takes Place at the End of August. Here's How to See It
Fresh off the excitement of the Perseids meteor shower is a chance to see six planets in the sky at the same time. These events, colloquially known as planet parades, only occur about once or twice a year, with the most recent one in February showing off all seven planets at once. The next one will feature six of our closest celestial neighbors, and the event starts on Aug. 20. The six planets sharing the sky will be Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus. Mars will technically be there at the beginning of the night, but it dips below the horizon right after sunset, so it won't be visible when all of the others are. Of those, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter will be visible to the naked eye, while the others will require high-powered binoculars or, preferably, a telescope. Even though they're spread out across the eastern and southern skies, the planets pair up with this one, making many of them pretty easy to find if you know what to look for. From east to west, here's where each one will be. Mercury - Eastern sky near the Cancer constellation. It'll pop over the horizon just before sunrise, so you'll have limited time to view it before the sun comes up and obfuscates it. - Eastern sky near the Cancer constellation. So, in all, you'll have a chance to see at least five planets for over a month. Will the planet parade be visible from my region? Yes. We double checked Stellarium's sky map from a variety of locations across the country, and everything above will be applicable everywhere in the continental US. Per Starwalk, the parade will also be visible in other parts of the world after the following dates for about the same amount of time (one to two weeks). Abu Dhabi - Aug. 9 - Aug. 9 Athens, Beijing, Berlin, Tokyo and London - Aug. 10 - Aug. 10 Mumbai and Hong Kong - Aug. 11 - Aug. 11 Reykjavik, São Paulo and Sydney - Aug. 12 The planets will move based on date, though. The above locations are where they'll be around Aug. 20, but if you're looking a week or so later, they'll be in the same general area, but will shift to a slightly different part of the sky. Will I need any special equipment? Yes. Neptune and Uranus, especially, will require some sort of magnification to see. We recommend a telescope, but high-powered binoculars may work if the sky is dark enough. Saturn is also difficult to see without magnification, so you'll want it for that too. Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury should be visible on their own with the naked eye. We also recommend taking a trip out to the country, as light pollution from suburbs and cities can make it even more difficult to see Neptune and Uranus. The moon will be out as well, which may make Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury harder to see. Other factors like weather may also make it more difficult to see all of them. If you're lucky, you may see a few shooting stars at the tail end of Perseids as well.
