Beyond The Gates Recap: Smitty's Investigation Reveals a Connection to Vernon
On today's Beyond The Gates recap:
Uptown: Madison listens in as Allison tells Chelsea she wants her back.
Chelsea fields a call from Kat and then tells Allison she's too late. After Madison hears the good news, she quickly makes her exit. Allison asks if they can still be friends but Chelsea thinks it's a bad idea. Allison feels so stupid for ruining things between the two of them. They review their brief history and Chelsea says she's focused on moving forward. With that, she exits.
Joey's Gambling Pit: Randy holds Kenneth at gunpoint and tells him to turn over the money. Kenneth says he's going to take his coins and go. Randy says he messed with the wrong people and now they need to go for a little ride.
Joey is alone in the room and makes a call saying he's waiting for confirmation the job is done. Afterwards, he flashes back to his sexy time with Vanessa. Just then, Randy returns, says the job is done and places his gun on the table. He then says they have a problem. Randy shot Kenneth like Joey asked but he thinks there was a witness. Randy is nervous because he has a son and the child's mother to think about. Joey says he just needs to lay low for a bit. He thinks Randy should take the kid and his mother away together for a family vacation. Joey offers to foot the bill for a trip to California and thanks Randy for stepping up and doing his job. Before he can leave, Joey asks for his money. Randy returns with the bag of money when Doug enters and asks what's up.
Doug asks what's going on and specifically what's up with the gun. Joey says Randy is leaving it with him for safe keeping as he and his family are headed to Disneyland. Randy says he has to go but Joey tells him to slow his roll. With that, Randy and Doug exit.
Martin and Smitty's Digs: Smitty is working on his story when he gets a call the story has been killed. Smitty is furious and makes the case for why it should still run. He gets a reprieve and then checks on Malone being investigated by internal affairs. The witness he needs to interview is Vernon. Just then, Martin enters and overhears Smitty, who quickly gets off the phone.
Tyrell arrives home and reports about her trip to the mall with Samantha. She's out with Kat for dinner but he wants to head to the park to meet up with the chess club. Tyrell runs upstairs while his fathers think he is finally getting back to his old self. Tyrell heads back down and makes his exit.
Smitty lies to Martin saying his editor wants him to do a profile on Vernon after he finishes the one on Malone. Martin compliments his husband and then says he loves his family and would do anything to protect them. Smitty agrees then says he needs to head out to meet up with a source. He grabs his bag and exits. Afterwards, Martin grabs his phone and gets Bill's voicemail.
Fairmont Country Club: Vernon and Dani chat about dropping Anita off at the airport. She asks what's wrong with her father and wants to know if he's worried about Martin. He's evasive but Dani doubles down saying she knows something is wrong with Martin. She hopes nothing is wrong with his marriage as Smitty and Martin have always been relationship goals. She hopes Chelsea and Madison follow suit.
Vernon wonders why his daughter is pushing so hard for Chelsea and Madison. She admits she is but simply wants her daughter to be happy. Dani refuses to be distracted and tries to get back to Martin when Vanessa shows up. With that, he quickly makes his exit.
Dani says she needs some office space and tells Vanessa about the new modeling agency. Vanessa says she's got plenty of property to show her which leads Dani to comment on how business must be good. Vanessa flashes back to her last conversation/sexy time with Joey and says business is interesting. Dani is intrigued and Vanessa has a confession to make.
Vanessa tells Dani about her issues with Doug. She says it's not about their marriage and then explains the gambling/financial issues. Dani remembers how she and Pamela ran into Doug when they were blowing off steam at the gambling pit. She wondered why Doug was there but determined it was none of her business.
Dani asks if she needs some financial assistance, but Vanessa says no. Just then, a waiter approaches (not Kenneth) and they get quiet. Suddenly, Martin walks up and grabs the waiter thinking he is Kenneth. He quickly apologizes and says he mistook him for another.
Martin follows the man out and apologizes again. The waiter says Kenneth quit and wouldn't be coming back.
Police Station: Jacob tells his father they are moving forward with the case against Leslie because of the scratch found on the helmet from her apartment. Elon changes the subject asking about his son's conversations with Smitty regarding Malone. Jacob flashes back to their last discussion. In real-time, Jacob tells his father he was helping out with Smitty's profile. Elon tells him to stand down as Smitty rubbed Marcel the wrong way. He doesn't want Smitty dragging his name through the mud.
Jacob assures his father Smitty isn't trying to smear Malone when he gets a call from Naomi. She says she's at the hospital and it's an emergency.
Garland Memorial Hospital: Jacob arrives and Naomi tells him June was found with a head injury. They called Naomi because she had her card on her person.
Naomi and Jacob enter June's room as Madison examines her (That was an incredibly quick return to work). Naomi greets Madison who says she's there on a neuro consult. Madison wonders why she's there and Naomi says June is her client. Further, her husband is a cop who needs to know more about the assault. The trio chats a bit about June's unhoused status before Naomi goes to her bedside. She tells her everything is going to be ok when she spots the picture of the two children.
Naomi and Jacob sit outside the room as June is getting scanned. She has the picture of the two children for safe keeping and snaps a picture of the picture. Just then, Naomi notices what appears to be a phone number at the bottom of the picture. She calls it and gets an answer but when she says she is calling about June, they hang up.
Police Station: Elon is on the phone telling someone he spoke to Jacob about the pesky reporter just as Smitty walks in. Elon ends the call and Smitty ribs him about being called a pesky reporter. He asks about Jacob and Elon says his son is attending to an emergency. Smitty asks if he could stick around and ask the Elon some questions. He doesn't really want to be probed about Malone and says he's a 'cop's cop' who is amazing at his job. Smitty says he has the utmost respect for Malone's reputation but wonders about the brushes with internal affairs. They go back and forth and things get very tense.
They take a seat and Smitty asks again about Malone and Internal Affairs. Elon says nothing came from Malone's interactions with Internal Affairs. Smitty asks about the connection between Malone and Internal Affairs as he has a source that connects them. Elon admits he knows the connection but thinks Vernon deserves his privacy. He says he can make a statement off the record and Smitty turns off his recorder. Elon says Vernon wasn't called in but testified on his own accord because he had helpful information. It was his testimony that led to the investigation being dropped. With that, Smitty thanks Elon and makes his exit.

Chappell Roan's Brand New No. 1 Single
Chappell Roan's 'The Giver' debuts at No. 1 on the Official Vinyl Singles chart in the U.K., marking ... More her third chart-topper — and third consecutive leader — on the list. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 25: Chappell Roan at the Los Angeles premiere of Netflix's "Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour" at NYA EAST on October 25, 2024 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Momodu Mansaray/FilmMagic) After breaking into the mainstream and becoming one of the hottest new names in pop music, Chappell Roan switched things up in early 2025. The world has been eager for new music from the Grammy-winning superstar, and for months, all she's been promoting is 'The Giver,' which has divided listeners. The track sounds nothing like the tunes that turned her into a global powerhouse, as it moved Roan into country-pop territory. 'The Giver' returns to several charts in the United Kingdom this week and debuts on a pair of tallies at the same time, after the vinyl edition of the single finally shipped to fans. "The Giver" Returns and Debuts 'The Giver' opens at No. 1 on the Official Vinyl Singles chart, which ranks the bestselling individual tracks on that format in the U.K. As the track launches, Roan earns her third No. 1 on the list, as her country-leaning cut joins 'Good Luck, Babe!' and 'Pink Pony Club,' both of which also reached the top spot. Roan has only sent three tracks to the Official Vinyl Singles chart throughout her career, and all of them have hit No. 1. That means her track record on the roster remains unbroken. Chappell Roan Debuts at No. 2 Elsewhere While 'The Giver' rules the Official Vinyl Singles chart, it misses out on opening in the same spot on the Official Physical Singles tally. On that ranking, Roan starts the tune at No. 2. She also reappears in the same position on the Official Singles Sales list, which is not limited to any one format. 'The Giver' has already spent 10 weeks on that roster, and previously stalled in the runner-up spot when it was brand new and only available digitally. 'The Giver' Just Misses the Top 40 'The Giver' also originally missed out on becoming a champion on the Official Singles chart by just one space, when it was brand new and it peaked at No. 2. Though the tune returns to that roster, it doesn't appear in as lofty a position as on sales-focused lists. Roan narrowly fails to send 'The Giver' back into the top 40, as it reenters the all-consumption ranking at No. 43. Chappell Roan's Latest Remains a Standalone Hit For the moment, 'The Giver' is a standalone single, just like 'Good Luck, Babe!' which helped catapult her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess to great commercial success — even though the tune isn't featured on that full-length. Anticipation for Roan's sophomore project is high, though the singer-songwriter hasn't given any real signs that she's ready to deliver an album. So, for now, 'The Giver' must exist on its own as a bestseller.
