King Charles sends vital message to Trump in his 'Speech from the Throne' at Canada's opening of parliament, writes REBECCA ENGLISH

Daily Mail28-05-2025
Amid pomp and pageantry not seen in Canada for more than half a century, King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived at the country's Parliament yesterday with a powerful – and at times defiant – message for US President Donald Trump.
In a 'Speech from the Throne' (made of wood from a Windsor oak, no less) Charles, 76, spoke of his 'deep pride and pleasure' at witnessing 'Canadians coming together in a renewed sense of national pride, unity and hope'.
He also highlighted the country's 'unique identity' and made clear in the strongest possible terms – within the remits of his role as a constitutional monarch, of course – his personal pride that 'the Crown has for so long been a symbol of unity for Canada'.
To huge applause from MPs, he added: 'As the anthem reminds us, 'The True North is indeed strong and free'.'
Introduced to Parliament as the King of Canada, many MPs looked visibly moved – some even broke into impromptu cries of 'God Save The King' – as he walked into their Senate building.
The King's voice notably cracked with emotion on the last paragraph of his speech, showing just how much this visit has meant to him, particularly given his ongoing health issues.
Charles had been invited by the country's prime minister Mark Carney to formally open the new session of parliament in what is widely being interpreted as sign Canadian sovereignty is not for sale.
While he cannot publicly comment on recent threats by the US President to annexe Canada and make it America's '51st state', his decision to accept the invitation at such short notice was seen as a strong gesture of unity, and the red carpet was rolled out.
Indeed it is only the second time a King or Queen of Canada has ever opened Parliament, the last being his late mother in 1957.
Charles and Camilla were escorted in a horse-drawn landau, escorted by flag-bearing 'Mounties', and met by a 100-strong Guard of Honour at Ottawa's Senate building, along with a 21-gun salute.
The King stood for the British and Canadian national anthems and inspected the soldiers, looking deeply moved at times.
Queen Camilla, 77 – wearing a navy blue crepe silk embroidered dress by Fiona Clare, a matching hat by Philip Treacy and carrying a Chanel bag – looked on proudly.
She also sported her Canadian Rifles brooch as the regiment's colonel in chief, with a pearl and diamond choker.
The King was wearing a lounge suit with medals and his Order of Canada around his neck.
Aides revealed, as an aside, that the Queen's great-great-great grandfather, Sir Allan Napier MacNab, was a leading Canadian politician who led the 'province of Canada' as it was then known.
After taking his place in the chamber, the Queen on a throne by his side, the King finally read his much-anticipated 'Speech from the Throne', written – as it is in Britain – by the Canadian government and outlining their new legislative agenda for the coming Parliament.
However it was clear the King had added a strong personal touch to their words, which went further than many had predicted given the delicate nature of the UK's relationship with President Trump.
Nailing his colours firmly to the mast, the King said: 'This is my 20th visit to Canada, spread over the course of more than half a century, and my first as sovereign. As I have said before, every time I come… a little more of Canada seeps into my bloodstream and from there straight to my heart.
'I have always had the greatest admiration for Canada's unique identity, which is recognised across the world for bravery and sacrifice in defence of national values, and for the diversity and kindness of Canadians.'
He added: 'It has been nearly 70 years since the sovereign first opened Parliament. In the time since, Canada has dramatically changed – repatriating its constitution, achieving full independence and witnessing immense growth.
'Canada has embraced its British, French and indigenous roots, and become a bold, ambitious, innovative country that is bilingual, truly multicultural and committed to reconciliation.'
Charles was met with a standing ovation from all in parliament as he said: 'It is a source of great pride that, in the following decades, Canada has continued to set an example to the world in her conduct and values, as a force for good.'
He concluded: 'The Crown has for so long been a symbol of unity for Canada. It also represents stability and continuity from the past to the present. When my dear late mother addressed your predecessors seven decades ago, she said that in that age, and against the backdrop of international affairs, no nation could live unto itself.
'It is a source of great pride that, in the following decades, Canada has continued to set an example to the world in her conduct and values, as a force for good.'
Charles was met with a standing ovation from all in parliament yesterday. But former prime minister Justin Trudeau raised eyebrows after wearing green and red Adidas Gazelle trainers to the event.
Afterwards, Charles and the Queen embarked on a brief walkabout before conducting a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial, then flying out of the country just 24 hours after they had arrived.

Top cabinet ministers at risk of losing seats even after Starmer recognises Palestinian state, pollsters warn

Sir Keir Starmer 's historic decision to recognise Palestinian statehood later this year will not be enough to stop some of his top cabinet ministers from facing major battles to hang on to their seats, leading pollsters have warned. Health secretary Wes Streeting and justice secretary Shabana Mahmood are among those who could be ousted from parliament at the next general election, the UK's top pollster Sir John Curtice warned, in the face of major challenges from pro-Gaza candidates. Sir Keir lost a key member of his top team, Jonathan Ashworth, to a pro-Palestine independent candidate at the last election. Mr Streeting was among those who held his seat, but saw his majority in his Ilford constituency slashed from 5,198 in 2019 to just 528. But pollsters now warn anger over the issue of Palestine, which Jeremy Corbyn's newly announced political party will attempt to capitalise on, could see Mr Streeting and other high-profile casualties from the cabinet. Labour pledged to recognise a Palestinian state in its manifesto before the last general election, and Sir Keir this week bowed to growing pressure from his own MPs – and some high-profile members of the cabinet – to lay out a plan to recognise the state of Palestine. Asked if the move on Palestinian statehood could help save Mr Streeting and Ms Mahmood next time around, Sir John told the Independent that it 'may not be sufficient given the current condition of the Labour Party'. Luke Tryl, from pollsters More in Common, was more blunt. 'No,' he said. Sir John added that it was clear that Starmer had also 'lost out' on votes in his own constituency last year because of the issue, although the PM's majority is significantly larger than some of his cabinet colleagues. After promising to tackle Labour's antisemitism crisis when he came to power, Sir John summed up the PM's problem: 'Here is somebody who spent a great deal of time and effort trying to reconnect with the Jewish community, and now he's finding himself having to spend a great deal of effort trying to reconnect with the Muslim community. It is very difficult to keep himself on board with both groups at the moment.' Mr Tryl said the war in Gaza had uncovered 'deeper' problems for Labour. 'When we have done focus groups with voters in Muslim areas, particularly some of those who backed or were thinking about backing pro-Gaza independent candidates, I compared it to speaking to voters in the red wall after Brexit,' he said. 'In the sense that Brexit was the thing which caused the split, but it actually brought to the fore much deeper resentments - that they have been taken from granted, ignored, left behind by Labour … I think we're going to see exactly the same thing with Muslim voters.' Mr Corbyn confirmed his party would campaign heavily on Palestine when he launched it last week. Sir John said that the polling suggested that the new party would take the most votes from the Greens, followed by Labour. But he added, when it came to a new party run by their ex-leader: 'Given that Labour, even without Corbyn being put onto the hypothetical ballot, are behind Reform, they don't really want this.' Sir John said the Palestine announcement could be seen, in one way, as an example of Labour's problem connecting with the wider electorate. Asked what the party could do to win back voters across the board, he said: 'Explain to people what you are about. It's the point that everybody's making now. This is a government that has no known direction. And of course, some people are painting (the Palestine move) as yet another example of policy change. 'In terms of substance, (Labour should) turn around the economy and make sure that the health service doesn't have long waiting lists. It's not complicated, just very, very difficult to do.'

The most surprising celebrity couples EVER - as Katy Perry enjoys secret 'date' with Justin Trudeau

It was the summer love story no one expected after Katy Per ry was spotted on an unlikely date with Justin Trudeau this week. The world of the California Gurl and politics collided when the former Canadian Prime Minister was spotted at the singer's concert in Montreal with his daughter Ella-Grace, 16. The pair have set social media ablaze as Justin, 53, looked absolutely captivated (and even smitten) as he watched Katy belt out her hits on stage, not long after her split from Orlando Bloom. But Katy and Justin aren't the only unlikely celebrity couple to have formed this year with Elizabeth Hurley and Billy Ray Cyrus finding unlikely love after his divorce. Elsewhere, JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes shocked fans after they fell for each other on Celebrity Big Brother back in March. As the surprising couples that weren't on anyone's 2025 bingo cards continue to pop up, Daily Mail takes a look at the most unlikely celebrity couples of past and present. Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater's romance was embroiled in controversy from the off after it began amid the break down of both of their marriages. The couple's romance was revealed in July 2023 just a few days after the singer announced her split from husband Dalton Gomez after two years of marriage -although they were said to have split in January of that year. Meanwhile Ethan had been married to his childhood sweetheart Lilly Jay, 32, for five years and welcomed their baby boy to the world in August 2022, before they sadly divorced in September last year. An insider said that the pair were so open with their romance during filming that the majority of the Wicked cast were aware that they were in a relationship. 'They were sloppy on set,' the insider shared. 'They were seen being all over each other. 'They were seen making out at a pub in Hampstead, and they were all over each other at Michelle Yeoh's Oscar party [in March].' Lilly broke her silence on Ethan's new romance with Ariana in an emotional essay in The Cut in December, where she got candid about the 'public downfall of her marriage.' She recalled moving both herself and her then two-month-old baby boy to London while Ethan filmed Wicked - before he left her for Ariana after they met on set. Lilly further reflected on how she never expected to get a divorce after tying the knot with her high school sweetheart - but emphasized both she and her ex focus to positively co-parent their son. She expressed there are 'days when I can't escape the promotion of a movie associated with the saddest days of my life are darker' as she while trying to 'accept the sudden public downfall of my marriage.' Elizabeth Hurley and Billy Ray Cyrus Elizabeth Hurley and Billy Ray Cyrus shocked the world when they went public with their romance back in April. The pair's relationship began following the Achy Breaky Heart hitmaker's divorce from Firerose - his third marriage. Billy had met Elizabeth on set of the 2022 movie Christmas In Paradise and as he was navigating through the split, he received a message from Liz. 'I felt like, "Wow, can life get any harder? Can it get any tougher?" For me, at a certain point it was like, you can't get knocked down any flatter than laying on your back when life is kicking you. And in this moment... a friend reached out,' he explained. The star later gushed that the actress is 'a great human being' and also 'impressively brilliant.' And since the couple announced their romance, things have only gone from strength to strength, with Billy recently dubbing Liz the 'love of his life'. JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes It certainly wasn't a love match anyone saw coming after JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes initially denied romance rumours following their close relationship in the Celebrity Big Brother house. When the former Love Island star, 32, and the former Dance Moms star, 22, met, JoJo was in a relationship with her ex partner Kath Ebbs. However after their split at the show's afterparty JoJo and Chris' relationship has blossomed into a love like no other with Chris even admitting he is 'obsessed' with the singer. Speaking about the relationship for the first time in an interview with The Sun's Fabulous Magazine, Chris described: 'Then meeting Joelle gave me this magical feeling. She is the most precious person....I'm obsessed with her. I'd do anything for her.' The star confessed the 10-year age gap doesn't phase him as you can't help who you fall in love with. And while it has only been a matter of months Chris can already see the relationship going the full way and believes it is forever. Discussing the prospect of marriage after confessing they both say 'I love you' every day, he hinted: 'I do see a forever here... I'd love to marry her. I'd be lying if I didn't tell you I run through scenarios of our wedding day.' He also revealed they both want children and he has received the seal of approval from her family after joining them on their Orlando holiday in May. Zara McDermott and Louis Tomlinson Zara McDermott hit headlines when she was linked to One Direction superstar Louis Tomlinson earlier this year when they were spotted enjoying a secret date. Their romance continued to blossom as they jetted off on holiday together, before Louis and Zara's ex Sam Thompson came face-to-face for the first time at Soccer Aid last month. A seemingly awkward interaction ensued, with Louis reportedly blanking Sam following the match at Old Trafford despite holding 'peace talks' at the team hotel earlier. The woman at the centre of the drama was however nowhere to be seen, with Zara later admitting the reaction to her love life has been 'frustrating'. Yet the pair survived the minor bump in the road and went Instagram official in June, five months after they began dating as they enjoyed the weekend at Glastonbury with their pals. The couple were spotted packing on the PDA in a TikTok video at the festival as Louis wrapped his arms around Zara who flopped her head back onto his shoulder, while enjoying the music. The user captioned the post: 'Glastonbury is mad because you can be dancing to Skepta and boom Louis Tomlinson is next to you'. Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas Tom Cruise first sparked romance rumours with Ana de Armas when they were spotted together on Valentine's Day. And after months of speculation and many helicopter rides together, Tom, 63, and Ana, 37, seemed to finally confirm that they are an item. The pair were spotted holding hands during a picturesque getaway in Vermont this week following on from a sun-soaked trip to Menorca last month. A source exclusively told 'Tom has been showering Ana with gifts ever since they met, it's his thing, he is thoughtful.' 'First it started with her favourite flowers then books he thought she would want to read because she's an avid reader.' 'The more they got to know each other, the bigger the gifts became. There has been jewellery like gold bracelets and designer clothing, things like that, things every girl would love. 'Probably the biggest gift he has given her is being able to go anywhere in the world at a moment's notice, not many people can do that. She loves to travel.' Lana Del Rey and Jeremy Dufrene Video Games singer Lana del Rey shocked fans after she tied the knot with her husband Jeremy Dufrene last September. Yet what was even more surprising to fans was Lana's love interest's career as it was revealed Jeremy is an alligator tour guide. The singer and her now-husband exchanged vows by the water in Des Allemandes, Louisiana at the same bayou where he operates his popular swamp tours. Their nuptials came just one month after she confirmed their relationship following their secret romance. She first shared a photo with him back in 2019 after taking one of his tours from Arthur's Airboats in Des Allemandes. Years after their initial meeting, they reconnected in 2024 before getting engaged and then married in late September 2024 in what sources described as a 'whirlwind' romance. 'It's been kind of a whirlwind romance, but Lana's close friends hoped she would get married,' an insider said. 'Jeremy is different from the men that Lana meets in the entertainment world. He's a great guy.' The source added: 'He's charming and charismatic in a Southern way, very much a gentleman and he treats Lana really well. She's an old soul.' Last month Lana passionately kissed Jeremy onstage while performing in Cardiff as she stopped mid-performance to run up to her husband, who was standing backstage. In the middle of serenading both him and her audience with her song Stars Fell on Alabama at Principality Stadium, she got visibly emotional and stopped singing before walking to the side of the stage to kiss him. Elon Musk and Grimes Elon Musk and singer Grimes, 36, began dating in April 2018, a month before they made their red carpet debut at the Met Gala. Rumours started to swirl that they had split by that fall, after the pair unfollowed each other on X, however, Grimes insisted that they were still together during a March 2019 interview with Wall Street Journal. Despite seeming to be constantly on-off the couple are parents to four-year-old son X Æ A-12 Musk; three-year-old daughter Exa Dark Sideræl; and son Techno Mechanicus, three, who they welcomed in 2022. The couple parted ways nearly four years ago, as he told Page Six in September of 2021 that he and Grimes were 'semi-separated.' In a 2022 Vanity Fair interview, Grimes said she 'would probably refer to Elon as her boyfriend,' adding that the relationship was 'very fluid'. She said: 'We live in separate houses. We're best friends. We see each other all the time…. We just have our own thing going on, and I don't expect other people to understand it. This is the best it's ever been.... We just need to be free.' However, after the piece came out, she took to X to reveal that they had since broken up. 'Me and E have broken up *again* since the writing of this article,' she wrote in a post. 'But he's my best friend and the love of my life.' Tom Cruise and Cher Veteran singer Cher was 39 years old when she first crossed paths with up-and-coming actor Tom Cruise in 1985. The couple are said to have met at Madonna and Sean Penn 's wedding and quickly hit it off - despite their 15 year age gap. After this, Tom and Che reconnected at a White House event to raise awareness for dyslexia. Speaking to the Mail on Sunday in 2018, Cher said: 'A bunch of people who were dyslexic were invited to the White House, and Tom and I are both dyslexic.' As The Washington Post reported at the time, Cruise was dressed 'in 1920s-chic gangster suit, hair glooped in grease', while Cher was 'draped in black and gray gabardine with a sculpted hairstyle best described as haute punk goddess'. She added: 'We didn't go out till way later, but there definitely was a connection there.' Appearing on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live in 2013, Cher let slip that Tom was one of her favourite lovers. 'He was in the top five,' Cher - who has been linked to Val Kilmer, Gene Simmons, Warren Beatty, Eric Clapton, Michael Bolton and Tommy Lee - boldly proclaimed when grilled by the cheeky host. She added: 'He wasn't a Scientologist then. It was pretty hot and heavy for a little minute. He's a great guy. The person that I knew was a great and lovable guy.' When they were first romantically linked, Tom had yet to appear in Tom Gun - which turned him into a household name. Although their romance didn't last in the long-term, Cher told the Mail that her and Tom - who married actress Mimi Rogers in 1987 - have remained friends. She added: 'Though I don't get what he does, that whole Scientology thing. I can't understand it so I just… don't.' Neil Young and Daryl Hannah Singer Neil Young and actress Daryl Hannah first got together in 2014, before marrying in a private ceremony in Atascadero, California four years later. The couple were pap-snapped on a date in September 2014, a month after his divorce filing from his wife of 36 years Pegi Young. Around that time, a People source gossiped that Neil and Daryl had in fact 'been dating for months' before he filed for divorce from Pegi. Years later, Pegi told Rolling Stone of her split from Neil: 'We were having a rough patch. But I never would've thought in a million years we would be getting divorced. So, yeah, there was a bit of a shock value there.' There was a swirl of reports in 2018 that Neil and Daryl had married, and he then referred to 'My wife Daryl' in a pro-gun control Instagram post in October of that year. The post also included a video featuring a live version of the 1970 Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young song Ohio. Sinitta and Brad Pitt Singer Sinitta was at the height of her fame when she hooked up with a little known actor named Brad Pitt in the late 1980s. The pair dated for two years but shy and retiring Pitt found it difficult to keep up with his party-loving girlfriend and the relationship fell apart. In a previous interview with Maxim magazine, Sinitta said: 'I think I was too wild for him! 'I was really young and at the peak of my career and I didn't want to sit and be romantic and eat dinner at home.' Sinitta has also blamed their careers as the reason for their split in 1988, as Brad lived in Los Angeles while Sinitta toured. Speaking to OK magazine she explained: 'It was a long-distance thing for too long. He was based in LA and had to be there for auditions and filming, whereas I was always off on tour. 'And I need my men to be around and be with me. We didn't have the internet or WhatsApp back in the late 80s, all we had in those days was a fax or a phone or an answer machine. 'There wasn't a lot of contact if you were in different countries and I found that difficult.' She admitted to sending him pages upon pages of faxes, saying: 'I used to spend a fortune telephoning him from hotels and sending 40-page faxes in the middle of the night. 'But boys aren't that good at communicating back, so I'd send these 40 pages and he'd come back with maybe a one-word answer.' However, the former couple have remained friends and Brad even texted even sent her a congratulatory text when she adopted two children in 2008. Liv Tyler and Joaquin Phoenix They're two hugely successful actors in their own right - but a lot of movie buffs might not realise that Liv Tyler and Joaquin Phoenix were once a celebrity power couple to be reckoned with. The former couple met in the mid 1990s on the set of Inventing the Abbotts/ when they were both teenagers. Speaking to The Morning Call in 1997, Liv said: 'I fell in love with Joaquin the second I saw him.' She added: 'I didn't feel threatened or afraid of the idea to get involved with him when we were working. 'I just kind of knew and hoped and prayed that I would love him forever.' Meanwhile, Joaquin said he was 'moved' by his co-star's honesty and added: 'What I felt about her was that I have a new friend, a really great friend.' Although the couple didn't work out in the long-term, Liv later told Elle that she considers Joaquin and his sisters as her family. She added: 'We were so young when we were together, like 18 to 21. He was my first love. So he's a huge part of even my sense of humor.' Nicole Kidman and Lenny Kravitz Following her high-profile split from Tom Cruise in 2001, Nicole Kidman had an unlikely romance with rock star Lenny Kravitz. Despite trying to keep their relationship out of the spotlight, the couple - who reportedly dated for a year - were often spotted pounding the pavements of New York together. In a 2007 interview with Vanity Fair, Nicole hinted that her and Lenny were even engaged for a time - but it sadly didn't work out. She said: 'It just wasn't right. I wasn't ready. We weren't ready … I get engaged and I get married — that's my thing. 'I don't want to date. I'm interested in a very, very deep connection.' Despite their split, Lenny and Nicole have remained friendly - and often stop and speak to one another on red carpets. During the press tour for Big Little Lies - which also starred Lenny's daughter Zoe - Nicole confirmed that she'd almost become Mrs Kravitz. She said: 'I knew Zoë because I was engaged to her father. It's all in the family! I love Lenny; he's a great guy.' What's more, Lenny only has got things to say about his ex-fiancé too. He told Mr Porter in 2017: 'Nicole is amazing. Zoë and she hadn't spent time together since she was younger, since Nicole and I were together, so that was great.' While Nicole went on to marry country singer Keith Urban, Lenny is reportedly dating model Ana Paula Valle. Janet Jackson and Matthew McConaughey In the early noughties, Matthew McConaughey was one of Hollywood's most in-demand leading men thanks to his roles in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Failure to Launch. At the height of his rom-com fame, the actor - now 55 - was linked to singer Janet Jackson. The couple are said to have met at the 2002 Grammys when they presented an award together and it was rumoured that they were dating at the time. However, Janet didn't confirm this until 2006, where she admitted that they went out - but insisted it was 'just for a minute'. Matthew also confirmed it in 2019 on Watch What Happened Live, confessing they had gone on a dinner date and 'that was sorta it'. Kerry Katona and Lucien Laviscount Fans of Emily in Paris were shocked to learn that Lucien Laviscount previously dated Kerry Katona when he was 19 and she was 31 The pair were seen getting cosy in the Celebrity Big Brother house and even kissed on camera before posing for the front cover of OK! magazine when they left the house Fans of Emily in Paris were shocked to learn that Lucien Laviscount previously dated Kerry Katona when he was 19 and she was 31. The actor, 32, and the former Atomic Kitten star, 44, took part in Celebrity Big Brother back in 2011 and quickly struck up a romance. Lucien, who plays Alfie on the hit Netflix show, was best known at the time for appearances on Coronation Street and Waterloo Road. His success on the series, which stars Lily Collins in the lead role, has seen him tipped for more high-profile roles including replacing Daniel Craig as James Bond. The pair were seen getting cosy in the house and even kissed on camera before posing for the front cover of OK! magazine when they left the house. On their loved-up OK! magazine shoot, Kerry and Lucien declared: 'We hope we'll be together forever'. In their candid interview, Kerry wasn't shy about revealing the spark between the pair, saying: 'There was a lot of sexual tension, definitely. 'If the cameras hadn't been there, God knows what would have happened.' Lucien said he had a 'thing' for older women and insisted: 'She's not too old for me.' The pair's fling didn't last long however and they both moved on, with Lucien then being linked to Jesy Nelson after they were seen getting cosy on a night out. Pete Davidson and Kate Beckinsale In in March 2019, comedian Pete Davidson set tongues wagging when he went public with his romance with Kate Beckinsale The couple confirmed reports of a romance by sharing a passionate kiss in their seats in the stadium He's dated everyone from Ariana Grande to Kim Kardashian - but in March 2019, comedian Pete Davidson set tongues wagging when he went public with his romance with Kate Beckinsale. The couple - who had a 20-year-age gap - confirmed they were dating by passionately kissing in the stands at hockey game in New York. The pair were also seen holding hands and laughing with each other during the game, and at one point Pete rose to his feet and triumphantly threw up his arms. Unfortunately for the couple, their relationship wasn't meant to last and they called it quits the following month. In an interview with Charlamagne Tha God in February 2020, Pete gushed: '[ate is] one of the funniest people I've ever met.' 'All of my uncles freaked out,' the comedian said of how his family first reacted when he started dating the actress. He told Charlamagne that the timing was bad for the two of them, as he joked: 'I think I was going into another rehab. I must have a pattern.' Of the split with Kate he said: 'I wasn't right yet, and [Kate] had a lot of acting and work to do. She's a superstar.' Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet have been an item for over two years now, and Kylie even recently began following her boyfriend on Instagram Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet have been an item for over two years now. The couple made their award season debut at the 81st Golden Globes last January. She accompanied him to the Oscars this year where he was snubbed in the Best Actor category. Earlier this month the pair proved their romance is still going strong as they reunited at Shellona Beach in Saint Tropez. The French holiday comes days after eagle-eyed fans noticed that the billionaire reality television star recently started following Timothée on Instagram. The notoriously private couple had previously not shown any signs of their romance on social media. For his part, the Call Me By Your Name star does not follow anyone on Instagram, where he boasts 19.7 million followers. Insiders revealed earlier this year that the couple have agreed to a set of stipulations regarding their relationship. While the twosome have started attending public events together, they do not post each other online. And Timothée will not appear on Kylie's family Hulu series The Kardashians.

I friend-zoned my four-foot husband because he didn't look like my dream man but marrying him was the best decision I've ever made - even though strangers think our photos are AI

A woman has revealed how she initially friend-zoned her four-foot husband after admitting he wasn't 'what I had ever pictured in a partner' - and now they're forced to reassure strangers online that their photos aren't 'AI-generated'. Anita Wing Lee and Timothy Muttoo, from Toronto, met through mutual friends in 2021, but despite having plenty in common, their romantic connection wasn't instant. Businesswoman Anita confessed that their height difference was an issue for her at first, with the content creator questioning: 'How does a "regular" 5'4" woman fall in love with a four-foot-tall man?' As such, Tim - an engineer and co-founder of a Canadian charity working to make clean drinking water accessible to all - was the first to develop romantic feelings, but Anita saw her future husband as a 'great friend'. But after reflecting on her emotions, and remembering the love story of Australian motivational speaker Nick Vujicic, who was born with no arms and legs, and his wife Kanae, she decided to give Tim a chance to prove he was her fairytale ending. Anita soon realised Tim was everything she was looking for in a husband; he was kind and thoughtful, with 'no red flags', and she confessed that when she thought about the list of qualities she wanted in a future partner, she 'never prayed for someone tall'. Eventually going from friends to partners, the couple got engaged in September 2024 before tying the knot this year. The duo - who constantly tell those online that they 'are not an AI-generated image' - are now sharing their unconventional story on their own website to prove love does come in all shapes and sizes. Whilst their love story started some years before their engagement, the couple had actually unknowingly spent years living in the same area of Toronto. Tim was born in Canada, while Anita's family moved to the destination when she was 11 from Cambridge. For around 15 years, the pair lived just 20 minutes apart but were completely unaware of each other. Tim, who left a corporate career behind to start his charity, first met Anita at a mutual friend's birthday party in 2021, but neither felt anything other than friendship initially. Soon, they would form a strong friendship, spending hours talking to one another, going on trips together and sharing their dreams with each other. Eventually, Tim's feelings towards Anita turned romantic, and he increased his contact with the content creator via texts to try and show her more of his personality. Recalling their love story on their website, Anita said: 'Tim started texting me more frequently, and I found myself feeling uneasy. I didn't see him that way, and I already knew he liked me. 'I felt like I needed to put a stop to it, but at the same time, I didn't want to lose him as a friend.' With the help of her sister, Anita crafted a message to try and explain that she wanted to remain as friends only, and maintain their boundaries with one another. Yet the businesswoman admitted that she hesitated over sending the text, and once she did send the message, she regretted it almost immediately, which suggested to her that her feelings were perhaps stronger for Tim than she realised. 'But how could I imagine myself with a 4-foot man? Tim's torso was normal-sized, but his arms and legs were shorter. While that could look cute in some ways, it wasn't what I had ever pictured in a partner,' wrote Anita. 'I had always envisioned myself looking up into my partner's eyes, but with Tim, that wasn't possible. What was I supposed to do?' Anita reflected on her feelings, remembering the love story of Australian motivational speaker Nick Vujicic, who was born with no arms and legs, and his wife Kanae. She eventually discovered that she had strong romantic feelings for Tim, who made her happier, and explained how she believed they could have something 'even better' than she pictured for her life. The pair are now sharing their story online, with Anita recently writing on her Instagram account (@anitawinglee): 'I never prayed for someone tall. 'You know how people write out lists of what they're hoping for in a partner? I never actually wrote down 'tall', because I just assumed God would bring me someone tall. Ideally, someone 5 inches taller than me so I could wear heels and they'd still be taller. 'But I never actually added it to my list, because there were other things that mattered more. 'I prayed for someone with substance and character: a visionary, a humble world traveller, big-hearted and creative (or at least someone who understood my creative soul), with deep faith. And I always sensed he'd come from a different culture. 'It all felt a bit contradictory, so I didn't know where God would find this person. How do you find someone who excels in the modern world and is totally open to leaving it all behind? 'But that's who I am. All those versions of me co-exist in me, so I trusted that God had someone out there who could hold it all. 'As I got to know @timmuttoo, I saw he was all of these things. But… he wasn't tall. And when I asked God about it, He said, "Well, it wasn't on your list." 'Hey! It wasn't on my list, because it just didn't matter as much as being with someone who understood me to the core and stood by me. Asking for someone tall felt so… surface-level, in comparison. 'And of course, God picked up on that little omission. Because the external of a person is just that, external. It's the internal - the heart, the soul, the kindness, the way they treat you and others - that truly matters. 'Thankfully, I processed the height thing… and now I actually think it's so adorable! It's an added bonus that brings so much fun and sweetness to our lives! 'So if you're still waiting for your person …they may not look like what you pictured and that might be the best part,' concluded Anita. She eventually discovered that she had strong romantic feelings for Tim, who made her happier, and explained how she believed they could have something 'even better' than she pictured for her life 'So if you're still waiting for your person …they may not look like what you pictured and that might be the best part,' Anita told her followers In another post, she confessed: 'We know many of you have been curious about our story, how we met and how our love grew. And, no, we are not an AI-generated image. 'There's the short version (we met through mutual friends), and then there's the longer version, which we think is far more winding and wonderful. Something that we don't want to forget. 'So we wrote it all down in the hope that it might inspire and encourage someone one day, right when you need it,' she added, before sharing a link to the couple's website.
