If you have followed Priyanka Chopra's career over the last two decades, you know what the actor is capable of. From Barfi to Bajirao Mastani and as far back as Aitraaz, she has wowed audiences with her skills and screen presence. And yet, to the West, this had all been absent. Her career in Hollywood, though successful, lacked good films and projects that could be remembered. With Heads of State, she has taken that belated first step in that direction. The film and the actor both come off as likeable, but the true star of the show in this action comedy is John Cena. Heads of State is a throwback to the good old actioners from the 90s that is equal parts fun and thrill. Just do not expect anything deep from it, and you will have a great time. There is a romantic subplot in the film, too. But the real chemistry is between Idris and John Cena. The two play these bickering, egoistical tough guys, who will not bow down and never accept mistakes, to perfection. They play off each other quite well, enhancing their already-stellar chemistry from The Suicide Squad. But it's John Cena who walks away with the applause. The actor proves yet again he is much more than just a former wrestler. His comic timing is phenomenal. And despite being his size, he takes on the 'sidekick' trope quite well. He makes the film jump at you in dull moments with a perfectly-delivered one-liner here or simply a twitch of the eyebrow there. {{^userSubscribed}}

Priyanka Chopra is the muscle of the film, a refreshing break in the genre that is known for following the gender norms a little too much. Priyanka is part of some of the most intense and brutal fight scenes in the film, and she aces them. There isn't much room for performance in a film as light as this, but she still holds her own against the two leading men. Idris Elba seems the most lost in a rather clichéd part that does not utilise his acting chops. The surprise element of the film is Jack Quaid, who infuses some new life into the film in the middle with an unpredictable yet typically quirky character. The shortcomings
But Heads of State is not a perfect film, not in the least. It is predictable with a wafer-thin plot. All the twists and turns are quite generic and follow tropes that have been done to death. What saves the film is that it never pretends to be anything smart or path-breaking. Heads of State knows it's a run-of-the-mill action thriller and delivers what it promises—high-octane action, cool fights, and witty humour. {{^userSubscribed}}

Experts believe that this may be a sign that the group's recent expansion has also led to an ideological divide between the member nations. The 72-year-old Chinese President Xi Jinping have been attending the summit for the past 12 years. What becomes more interesting about this is the fact that no official reason has been given other than 'scheduling conflict'. Chinese Premier Li Qiang will now be representing the country instead. However, the process of expansion is diluting its coherence as a body offering an ideological alternative to Western capitalism represented by the G7. Its founding members were Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Last year, the group expanded to include Indonesia, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, countries in various stages of economic development and with varying levels of antagonism towards the West. Interestingly, the current make-up of the group leans towards autocratic societies, leaving India, Brazil and South Africa uneasy. Experts argue that with diverse voices now part of the group, Brazil, the host this year, would struggle to push its agenda. For example, Brazil has often called for the reform and the expansion of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). However, China, which is a permanent member of the body, has often blocked India's bid. However, the plan would collide with new members like Saudi Arabia, Russia and the UAE, who are oil and gas-based economies. Hence, with expansion, the group is slowly becoming ideologically divided. Pakistan in no hurry to recognise Afghan Taliban rule: Officials
'Pakistan is in no hurry to recognise the Afghan Taliban government and any decision will be made keeping the country's interest in mind,' Pakistan officials have said. The remarks came days after Russia became the first country to officially recognise the Taliban's rule. Moscow's decision, some observers feel, may be a prelude to other regional countries finally embracing the Taliban. However, officials in Pakistan told The Express Tribune newspaper that the decision of Russia was not a surprise, as Moscow for some time had indicated they would reconcile with the fact that the Taliban were now in charge and there was no other option but to accept their rule. The legal challenges in recognising the Taliban The Russian decision also stems from the fact that greater engagement with the Taliban government would help address the terrorist threat and advance its geostrategic interests. 'We, of course, will take a decision keeping in view our interest. I can tell you there is no hurry,' said a Pakistani official when asked whether Islamabad would also recognise the Taliban rule. A source, however, did not rule out the possibility of Pakistan taking a more pragmatic approach if other regional players follow the Russian footsteps. At his weekly news briefing on Friday (July 4, 2025), Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan reacted cautiously to Moscow's decision, saying it was a matter between two sovereign states. In any case, the source said, Pakistan has a robust engagement with the Taliban ruled Kabul. 'The de facto recognition is there,' the source said. Pakistan has given no hints about officially recognising the Taliban government, but agreed to upgrade the diplomatic ties. Last month, after a trilateral meeting of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Chinese Foreign Ministers in Beijing, Islamabad and Kabul decided to elevate their diplomatic ties. UAE accepts credentials of Taliban Ambassador in major diplomatic win for Afghanistan's rulers Both sides are in a process to fulfil their responsibilities before formally appointing ambassadors in each other's capitals. China is thought to have played a key role in brokering the deal in the hope that greater engagement between Pakistan and Afghanistan would address security concerns. One of the reasons that Pakistan has not yet recognised the Taliban government is the unresolved issue of terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan. But the Afghan government recently took certain steps, which Pakistan thinks could make a difference. One major such move includes the Taliban government's crackdown on Afghan nationals who were joining the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Sources said that it is in the Taliban's interest to address the security concerns of Pakistan and other neighbouring countries. Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have gradually improved since the visit of Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar to Kabul. Afghan Interim Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi is expected to travel to Islamabad later this month. He was to visit Pakistan last month, but the trip was delayed owing to the Iran-Israel war. During his visit, the two sides would review bilateral ties and decisions taken when Dar was in Kabul in April, according to the report.
