Hamilton support worker accused of stealing more than $270K from people with special needs
A Hamilton support worker has been charged after allegedly stealing more than $270,000 from residents with special needs.
Hamilton police said the worker, between Dec. 15, 2022, and Jan. 16, 2025, provided care to multiple residents of Community Living Hamilton, a not-for-profit organization that assists people with developmental disabilities.
The worker gained access to the residents' bank accounts to assist them with their finances, police said.
During that time, the worker allegedly diverted more than $277,000 from the accounts for her own personal use.
In a news release on Tuesday, police said they arrested 44-year-old Pamela Ellis. She has been charged with fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

‘I just hope justice comes': 16-year-old Devon Marsman remembered by family and friends
After Devon Marsman's celebration of life on Sunday, family and friends released 16 doves into the sky – marking each one of his years. (Callum Smith/ CTV Atlantic) A packed room in Halifax brought together family, friends and supporters of Devon Marsman on Sunday. There were songs, prayers and cherished memories of the 16-year-old. 'He was laughing, smiling, making sure you were having a good time,' said Jacob Fougere, Marsman's friend. 'If you were down, he'd be the man to bring you up.' Another one of Marsman's friends, Rielly Lucas, said, 'Devon was the light of the room.' 'Devon did everything to make everyone around him feel welcome,' he said. Speaking to CTV News after, Lucas said the teen was an 'amazing, incredible young man.' 'The time that we had on earth with him is going to be with us in our hearts and in our mind for the rest of our life,' he said with friends by his side. Marsman was last seen in February 2022 in the Spryfield area and reported missing days later. Police initially said they had no reason to suspect foul play, but two-and-a-half years later, his death was deemed a homicide – and charges started being laid. Marsman's cousin, Treyton Marsman, 26, was charged with second-degree murder, indignity to human remains and obstructing justice. He was one of two people charged initially, on Sept. 17, 2024. Charges were also laid against three others, including accessory after the fact. Marsman's mother warns parents to keep an eye on who their children are hanging around. 'He was my baby, right? He was 16. And this should never have happened to him,' Theresa Gray told CTV News. 'I'm never going to get my son back, so there will never be closure for me. 'I just hope justice comes sooner than later.' At the end of the service, 16 doves were released to the sky, honouring every one of Marsman's years. 'He was smart, loving, super caring,' Gray said. 'He always had time for everybody. He loved children.' 'Devon will always be in my heart and I'll never let that man's name go away – never,' she said to full crowd at the St. Agnes Church hall. 1 Cyclist killed, 2 injured in car crash during Okanagan Granfondo
Social Sharing A cyclist has died and two others are seriously injured following a collision during the Okanagan Granfondo cycling event near Penticton, B.C. say police. Penticton RCMP say the crash happened Sunday on White Lake Road near St. Andrew's Drive — a route that's part of the popular mass cycling event, which draws thousands of riders to the city each year. Police say the incident involved a motor vehicle and multiple cyclists. One cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and two others were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The road was closed as investigators analyzed the crash, and a traffic detour was put in place. In a statement, Penticton Mayor Julius Bloomfield said the city is grieving with those affected. "We are devastated by the news of this tragedy and our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected," he said. "On behalf of Council and our entire community, we extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends and every individual who has been impacted." "In times like these, words often fall short. It's a time to come together with compassion and kindness – and to show support for those in need." The City of Penticton had issued a traffic advisory ahead of Sunday's event, warning drivers to expect delays throughout the region and to watch for cyclists along highway routes.

Suspected cocaine seized, stolen TV recovered after northern Ont. traffic stop
Ontario Provincial Police along with members of the Treaty Three Police Service seized approximately 110 grams of suspected cocaine along with drug trafficking paraphernalia and $1,200 in cash following a traffic stop on Highway 11 in Alberton Township, Ont., on July 9, 2025. (Supplied/Ontario Provincial Police) Two people are facing drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop in northwestern Ontario led to the seizure of suspected cocaine and stolen property. Ontario Provincial Police said officers from the Rainy River District and Dryden Community Street Crime Units along with members of Treaty Three Police Service, arrested the suspects on July 9. According to police, the traffic stop occurred on Highway 11 in Alberton Township, just west of Fort Frances, Ont., at about 6:22 p.m. on Wednesday. As a result of an investigation, police have charged a 47-year-old man from Fort Frances with drug trafficking, two counts of possession of proceeds of crime and failing to comply with a probation order. A 41-year-old woman from Rainy River First Nation was also charged with drug trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime. Authorities seized approximately 110 grams of suspected cocaine and $1,200 in cash. 'During the investigation, police were (also) able to recover a stolen flat-screen television which had been previously reported to police,' OPP said in a news release. Both accused were held in custody pending a court appearance on Thursday.
