Court grants DNAA to Najib in RM27 mln SRC money laundering case as trial stalled since 2019
KUALA LUMPUR (June 20): Datuk Seri Najib Razak was today granted discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) from his final criminal case involving SRC International Sdn Bhd funds amounting to RM27 million after trial has stalled since 2019.
The decision was delivered by High Court Judge K Muniandy during today's hearing on whether to set new trial dates or grant a DNAA as previously applied by the defence.
Muniandy said the rule of law was applicable to prevent such a detrimental situation whereby an accused person is saddled which criminal charges with no outcome for an indefinite and indeterminate period.
'The prolonged wait for trial has become a long haul for the accused person, denying him of a timely resolution,' he said.
'This court is also mindful of the prevailing fact that the preferred charges against the accused dates back to the offence being committed in the year 2014, now it is 2025, and the case has not taken off for trial.
'By the virtue of these factors, the most appropriate order is for this court to discharge accused person without acquitting him so they he's not saddle with the charges preferred against him,' he added.
With today's DNAA, Najib has only the 1MDB trial still pending. He is currently serving a jail term for the misappropriation of RM42 million in the SRC International funds case.
He was also previously acquitted over the removal of key information from the auditor-general's 2016 report on 1MDB; and granted a DNAA in his RM6.6 billion International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) criminal breach of trust case
Najib's lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had previously suggested to court to grant his client a DNAA in the interest of justice as trial has been indefinitely postponed since 2019.
A DNAA means an accused person can face trial for the same charges in the future if the prosecution decides to reinstate them. — Malay Mail

Wan Rosdy: A-GC's acknowledgement confirms royal addendum's validity
KUANTAN: Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail has reiterated his stand that the royal addendum order concerning Datuk Seri Najib Razak is genuine, following the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) acknowledgement of its existence. In a Facebook statement today, Wan Rosdy said the A-GC's stance, whether directly or indirectly, confirms the validity of the royal decree, and reinforces the truth of the affidavit he had submitted to the court earlier. "This further affirms that the affidavit I presented, stating my awareness of the royal addendum, is truthful and not hearsay. "Since the Attorney-General's Chambers has acknowledged the addendum's existence, it is only right that the court proceedings be halted and the decree enforced," he said. Wan Rosdy added that all parties involved, including the A-GC, the judiciary, and the government, must uphold the principle of separation of powers and respect the authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Malay Rulers, as enshrined in the Federal Constitution. "Personally, and on behalf of the people of Pahang, I pray that Datuk Seri Najib receives the justice outlined in the royal addendum," he said. On Wednesday, senior federal counsel Shamsul Bolhassan informed the court that the A-GC does not dispute the existence of the royal addendum, which allegedly allows Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest, but is instead challenging the procedure of its submission as new evidence in Najib's ongoing judicial review.

Addendum on Najib's house arrest must go through court process, says Anwar
Anwar speaks to reporters after performing Friday prayers at Surau Ar-Rahim in Putrajaya today. – Bernama photo PUTRAJAYA (July 11): The government respects the views of all parties regarding the addendum issue, but emphasises that the document is subject to judicial process, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar said that the matter is still under court proceedings. 'This additional document is a court matter now, no issue. Let the court handle it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion; we respect that, but (we) must follow due process,' he told reporters after performing Friday prayers at Surau Ar-Rahim here today. Anwar was responding to Umno's statement urging for the implementation of the house arrest order for former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, in line with the absolute powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong under Article 42(1) of the Federal Constitution. Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki was reported as saying this followed confirmation of the additional document's existence by the Attorney General. Last Wednesday, the media reported that the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) did not dispute the existence of the additional document, which would allow Najib to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest. However, the AGC contested the procedure for submitting the document as new evidence in Najib's judicial review application at the High Court. – Bernama

DOSM sees M'sia population peaking at 42 mln in 2059, Chinese community shrinking under 15 pct, gender imbalance worsening
Between 2030 and 2060, Malaysia's average annual population growth rate is expected to moderate to 0.5 per cent, peaking in 2059 before starting to decline. – Malay Mail photo KUALA LUMPUR (July 11): Malaysia's population is projected to grow significantly from 32.45 million in 2020 to 42.37 million by 2060, according to new demographic projections released by authorities. According to the Department of Statistics (DOSM), the nation will experience steady population growth with 36.49 million people expected by 2030, followed by 39.78 million in 2040 and 41.79 million in 2050. Between 2030 and 2060, Malaysia's average annual population growth rate is expected to moderate to 0.5 per cent, peaking in 2059 before starting to decline. The projection also included a significant change to the Malaysia's ethnic landscape, with the Bumiputera community's share among citizens rising from 71.8 per cent in 2030 to 79.4 per cent by 2060. The Chinese community will experience a sharp decline in proportion, dropping from 21.1 per cent of the citizen population in 2030 to just 14.8 per cent by 2060. Indians will also see their share decrease slightly from 6.3 per cent to 4.7 per cent over the 30-year projection period, while other ethnic groups will grow modestly from 0.8 per cent to 1.0 per cent. A possible contributor to the declining population post-2059 could be the accelerating gender imbalance, with the sex ratio increasing from 112 males per 100 females in 2030 to 114 males per 100 females by 2060. By 2060, Malaysia's population will comprise 22.5 million males and 19.8 million females, reflecting this demographic trend. Malaysia also faces a rapidly ageing society with the median age rising from 32.8 years in 2030 to 40.7 years in 2060, marking a significant demographic transition. The age structure will transform dramatically as the proportion of young people (0-14 years) decreases from 19.9 per cent to 16.0 per cent, while the working-age population (15-64 years) declines from 70.8 per cent to 65.7 per cent. The elderly population aged 65 and over will more than double from 9.3 per cent in 2030 to 18.3 per cent in 2060, causing the total dependency ratio to rise from 41.3 to 52.3 and placing increased pressure on the working-age population. – Malay Mail Chinese depopulation DOSM gender imbalance population growth
