GEORGE TOWN - A part-time hotel worker pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court here today to charges of raping and committing unnatural sex on an Australian woman.

He is charged with raping the Australian woman in a Perodua Axia car and putting the victim in fear by pointing a metal scissors at her at a cemetery in the Mount Erskine Estate here, between 5.20am and 6am last June 28.
The charge, under Section 376 (2) (b) of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment of up to 30 years and whipping upon conviction.
He is also charged with committing unnatural sex on the woman at the same time and location, and was charged under Section 377C of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of between five and 20 years and whipping upon conviction. The prosecution, conducted by Penang Prosecution Director Mohd Nordin Ismail and Deputy Public Prosecutor Lee Jun Keong, did not offer any bail due to the seriousness of the offence and the sensitivity surrounding the good bilateral relations between Malaysia and Australia, as the victim is an Australian citizen.
"We do not want this matter to give a bad impression to foreign tourists who come to Malaysia. We cannot tolerate such offences,' said Mohd Nordin.
The court did not allow bail and set July 31 for mention for the submission of documents and appointment of a counsel. - BERNAMA

Yesterday, Shah Alam district police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim was reported to have said that his team is investigating a case involving the dissemination of pornographic videos by an independent preacher.

The disappearance of Mohd Azim Ezzat Ishak, 32, his wife Nurul Hidayah Khalijah Razman Effendy, 31, and their four children, aged between six months and nine years, was realised when they did not return to their home in Jerlun after spending the night at another family member's house in Taman Aman, Jitra. Woman airlifted after lion attack at Brisbane zoo
SYDNEY: A woman has been airlifted to the hospital after being bitten by a lion at a zoo in the Australian state of Queensland, Xinhua reported. Emergency services were called to the Darling Downs Zoo, 110km southwest of Brisbane, around 8.30am on Sunday following reports that a woman in her 50s had been attacked by an animal. The woman, an employee of the zoo, suffered a significant arm injury and was airlifted to a Brisbane hospital in a stable condition. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that the animal involved in the incident was a lion and that the woman lost an arm. The zoo said in a statement posted on social media on Sunday afternoon that the woman was watching zookeepers working in the carnivore precinct when the animal grabbed her by the arm. It said that at no stage did the animal leave its enclosure and there was no risk to the public. The zoo said that the animal involved would not be put down or punished in any way. "Police and Workplace Health and Safety personnel are investigating this incident and have been onsite all morning. The zoo is working with them to establish how this incident occurred," it said.
