"BJP has created a situation of Marathi vs non-Marathi": NCP-SP leader Rohit Pawar
Rohit Pawar noted that due to increasing pressure, the Maharashtra government had to withdraw the policy and alleged that the BJP, through its organisation, has created a 'Marathi versus non-Marathi' situation.
'When the strict Hindi policy was introduced in Maharashtra, it was only a subject for students from Grade 1 to Grade 4. Parents, Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray, were opposing it. Due to increasing pressure, the government had to back down and withdraw the GR. The BJP, through its organisation and leaders, has created a situation of Marathi versus non-Marathi', Rohit Pawar told ANI.
The NCP-SP leader further criticised the BJP for stoking tensions and said that for the opposition, anyone who lives in Maharashtra and respects its Marathi culture is considered Marathi.
'We say that a person who lives here and respects Marathi culture is Marathi for us, but the BJP has turned this entire debate into 'Marathi versus non-Marathi'... The BJP is deliberately fueling this fire for political gain', Pawar added.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray also weighed in on the issue, criticising the BJP for its stance in the language debate in Maharashtra. Thackeray stated that he failed to understand why the BJP was 'anti-Maharashtra' and 'anti-Marathi.'
Addressing the issue of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers being detained in Mumbai, Aaditya Thackeray stated that everyone has the right to protest in the country.
'Everyone has the right to protest. We don't know why the BJP is anti-Maharashtra and anti-Marathi and why people were arrested last night. There was a peaceful protest. They should have allowed it. Everyone has the right to protest', he said. Aaditya Thackeray noted that the BJP is trying to spread 'hatred' and create conflicts between 'Marathi and non-Marathi people,' he said.
He further stated that the 'BJP's divisive agenda,' ahead of the BMC and Bihar elections, would not succeed.
'The BJP is trying to spread hatred in Maharashtra and create conflicts between Marathi and non-Marathi people. Their agenda won't work. Their agenda for the Bihar and BMC elections is to create division. This is the BJP's tactic, and it won't succeed', he said. (ANI)

Judicial panel clears Siddaramaiah and wife in Muda case
. BENGALURU: A government-appointed judicial committee has exonerated Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and his wife BM Parvathi in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (Muda) scam, after opposition BJP claimed irregularities and a loss of around Rs 4,000 crore to the exchequer through fraudulent land allotments. The one-member panel headed by retired high court judge Justice PN Desai submitted its six-volume report to chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh, nearly a year after it was formed. A senior MLA familiar with the report's contents said Thursday the panel found no illegality in the allotment of 14 alternative sites to Siddaramaiah's wife in exchange for 3 acres acquired by Muda in Kesare village of Mysuru. The panel rejected allegations of misuse of office and ruled out any involvement of the CM in wider allotment irregularities. The findings mark a relief for Siddaramaiah, who already secured legal reprieve in July when Supreme Court dismissed a special leave petition filed by ED. The agency had challenged a Karnataka HC order quashing its notice to Parvathi and cabinet minister Byrathi Suresh. Earlier this year, Karnataka Lokayukta had cleared Siddaramaiah of wrongdoing. Parents not involved, claims woman in caste killing case
1 2 Madurai: S Subashini, the woman who was reportedly in a relationship with Kavin, the 27-year-old dalit software engineer murdered in Palayamkottai on July 27, has denied her parents' involvement in the incident. She said she planned to inform her parents about their love affair after some time. In a video that went viral on social media on Thursday, Subashini said Kavin asked for six months' time to reveal the relationship. "We were in true love. Since we wanted some time to settle down, we didn't say much about our relationship to my parents. On May 30, Surjith, my brother, informed my father about my relationship with Kavin. But when my father asked, I didn't disclose anything as Kavin asked me for time," she said. She said Surjith called Kavin and asked him to visit their house to talk about marriage. "I told Kavin to come to the hospital (where she was working as a siddha doctor) only on July 28 as I was planning to admit Kavin's grandfather. I didn't expect him to arrive in Tirunelveli on July 27. I was at the hospital with Kavin's mother and uncle explaining the medical procedure for his grandfather. Police are continuing efforts to convince Kavin's parents to receive the body. A day after the case was transferred to CBCID, officials have begun their investigation. On Thursday, Tuticorin MP Kanimozhi and BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran visited the grieving family and extended their support. Participating in a protest in Tirunelveli, VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan alleged that the murder appeared planned and suspected the hand of hired mercenaries. He sought the arrest of Surjith's mother. While demanding compensation for Kavin's family, he called for special legislation against caste killings saying they happen not just between SC and BC castes but even within BCs.
