Andrew Estrella is new Letran Squires head coach

NCAA Andrew Estrella is the new head coach of the Colegio de San Juan Letran Squires. Estrella will replace Willie Miller who steered the Squires to a Final Four run in NCAA Season 100. Estrella handled the UE Junior Warriors U16 team in the past two seasons and delivered the title in UAAP U16 boys basketball last December. "I'm incredibly thankful to Letran and Strong Group Athletics for this chance to lead the Squires," Estrella said in a statement. "Thank you to Fr. Raymond [Jose, OP], Fr. Vic, Boss Frank, and Boss Jacob for believing in me. I'll give my best and make sure not to let anyone down." Despite his new responsibility as a head coach, Estrella will still be serving in the University of the East. "I may have a new home with Letran, but there are no goodbyes," he said. "I'll still be consulting for UE. UE helped shape who I am as a coach, and I'll always be grateful for that." Joining Estrella in UE are Anton Escolin, JC Docto, and Kris Reyes, with Bryan Cay as strength and conditioning and Julianne Valencia as physical therapist. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

Alex Eala on Wimbledon experience: 'Couldn't have asked for a better debut'

Alex Eala may have fallen short in her Wimbledon Centre Court debut, but her heart remains full of gratitude. On Instagram, the Filipina tennis star shared some snaps from her first round match against Wimbledon defending champ Barbora Krejcikova and reflected on her journey to centre court. 'Realized something funny yesterday — when you're living your dream, it doesn't feel real,' Alex began saying she was living her dream. "Couldn't have asked for a better debut. That match was special in more ways than one — to be able to fulfill a childhood dream and be part of something bigger than myself, history for my country," she added. Ever the gracious athlete, the 20-year-old congratulated Barbora and said that it was an honor to share the court with her. Alex lost to Barbora 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the first round of the said Grand Slam tournament on Tuesday at the famed Centre Court. The Wimbledon appearance is the latest of Alex's dream run this year. Previously, she made it to the Eastbourne Open finals she achieved a career-high WTA ranking of No. 56 in Women's Tennis Association rankings, despite losing to Maya Joint. In March, she defeated three Grand Slam champions to reach the semi-finals of the Miami Open. She may have fallen short against world no. 4 Jessica Pegula then, but she definitely made the Philippines proud. — Jade Veronique Yap/LA, GMA Integrated News
