Brunei Crown Prince graces CIPTA Award ceremony
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei and Patron of the Crown Prince CIPTA Award, graced the Award 2025 Ceremony on July 2.
Upon arrival at the Plenary Hall of the International Convention Centre in Berakas, His Royal Highness was greeted by Minister of Development Datuk Seri Setia Muhammad Juanda Abdul Rashid, in his capacity as Deputy Chair of the UTB Council, UTB Vice-Chancellor Datin Paduka Professor Dr Zohrah Sulaiman and Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Adeleye Falade.
UTB council members, Attorney General Datin Seri Paduka Nor Hashimah Mohammed Taib and Deputy Minister (Energy) at the Prime Minister's Office Datuk Seri Paduka Mohamad Azmi Mohd Hanifah were also present.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a Doa Selamat by Datuk Paduka Seri Setia Salim Besar.
A multimedia presentation was also held showcasing the journey, achievements and milestones of the Crown Prince CIPTA Award over the past two decades.
Head of the Technical Committee Dr Rafidah Petra presented a summary of the overall appraisal from the CIPTA 2025 Judges Team Leads.
A new category, the Special Award for Sustainable Energy, was introduced in CIPTA 2025, highlighting the competition's commitment to environmental innovation and green technology.
The award recognises outstanding projects that demonstrate exceptional innovation in sustainable energy applications, renewable technologies or energy efficiency solutions.
Winning teams in all categories received cash prizes, medals, commemorative trophies and certificates of achievement.
Following the announcement of the winners, the Crown Prince presented the prizes, trophies, medals and certificates to the winners of the local categories, the Smart Junior Competition and the Asean categories.
A remarkable achievement was recognised at CIPTA 2025, with one innovation receiving the prestigious grand prize of the Crown Prince Special Award 2025.
The award was presented to Dr Law Kah Haw and Mohammad Asri bin Puasa, both from UTB, for their winning innovation titled, 'Novel Filter-Less Single-Source Extendable Switched-Capacitor Boost Multilevel Inverter Suitable for Renewable and Industrial Applications'.
The selection of the grand prize winner underwent a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation process by a panel of international and local judges. This year marks the second time an innovation has received the prestigious grand prize, the first being exactly ten years ago in 2015.
The Crown Prince presented the grand prize trophy, cash prize and certificate to the winners of both the Crown Prince Special CIPTA Award and the Special Award for Sustainable Energy.
He received a gift from the CIPTA 2025 Organising Committee, presented by Farah Zakiah Datuk Paduka Sa Bali, a first-year Architecture Programme student from the School of Design who designed the royal gift with her peers.

Sabah Cockle Resource and Industry Development Project launched
Hajiji releasing the blood cockle broodstock at the jetty of the Borneo Beach and Mangrove Resort in Tuaran on Saturday. TUARAN (July 5): The State Government has launched the Sabah Cockle Resource and Industry Development Project that has potential to generate RM34.4 million, based on an estimated landing of 3,240 metric tonnes per year and a return on investment of 7.6 times. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said the project would open up new export opportunities for Sabah cockles through downstream activities such as canning, sambal kerang (cockle paste) and blood cockle-based food products. 'For the private sector, this is the best time to invest in seafood processing, sustainable packaging, and the development of Sabah's export supply chain. 'This opportunity is not only profitable but also builds a sustainable future,' he said at the launching of the project at the Borneo Beach and Mangrove Resort here on Saturday. The Chief Minister said the Sabah Cockle Resource and Industry Development Project aligns with the State Government's commitment to ensure the Blue Economy becomes a solid economic foundation for the people of Sabah. The State Government is committed to taking steps in exploring marine and maritime resources as part of efforts to strengthen the state's position in the international Blue Economy landscape. 'The Blue Economy not only has the potential to balance prosperity with sustainability, but by the year 2030, the global value of the Blue Economy is projected to reach USD3 trillion,' he said. The Sabah Cockle Resource and Industry Development Project, to be carried out in two phases, is a collaboration between the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA), the Malaysia Fisheries Department and the Sabah Fisheries Department. The first phase, which has already been completed, involved mapping studies and exploration of blood cockle (Tegillarca granosa) resources conducted from October 2024 to May 2025 at six potential locations, including Tuaran and Beluran, which would kickstart the pilot project. The second phase of the project is scheduled to commence in 2026, involving the transfer of technology and actual field implementation. Hajiji said that a total of 77 aquaculture lots have been identified, comprising 12 in Tuaran and 65 in Beluran covering an area of 1,617 hectares. Each lot will be managed by 10 household heads (KIR), making it a total of 770 KIR as the main beneficiaries, comprising fishery entrepreneurs, rural communities and the B40 group. 'In fact, even if only 40 per cent of the lots operate at optimum capacity, participants can generate a monthly income of around RM4,800 to RM6,500,' he said. 'Certainly, the communities involved will gain sustainable income through blood cockle farming. Youth will also be trained in modern aquaculture skills, producing a new generation of Sabah's marine entrepreneurs. 'Indeed, this project will not only bring significant change to the people, particularly the community involved, but also to the environment and the state's economy. 'Sabah will be developed as the ASEAN Blue Seafood Hub, on par with major producing states such as Perak, Penang and Selangor,' he said. The Chief Minister said the State Government is fully committed to supporting this industry and want the project participants to get continuous training and modern technology. 'I urge the communities in Tuaran and Beluran, as the pioneers or leaders of this project, to fully utilise the acquired modern technology to enhance the capacity and productivity of the aquaculture sector,' he said.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, July 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — In a strategic move to strengthen Saudi Arabia's logistics infrastructure, His Excellency Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), laid the foundation stone for a new logistics corridor connecting Jeddah Islamic Port to Al-Khumrah Logistics Park. The ceremony was attended by Mawani President Eng. Suliman Almazroua, alongside senior officials and leaders from across the transport and logistics ecosystem. Developed and implemented by Mawani, the corridor project is valued at over $183.7 million and spans 17 kilometerswith two lanes in each direction. It features 12 overpasses, emergency access points, maintenance facilities, and a comprehensive rainwater drainage system, providing uninterrupted truck movement between the port and the logistics park while bypassing Jeddah's urban road network. Minister Al-Jasser emphasized that the dedicated corridor will increase Jeddah Islamic Port's handling capacity by 10%, streamline truck flows, and enhance road safety by separating heavy truck traffic from general urban traffic. The project is also expected to reduce congestion, noise, and visual pollution, while contributing to lower carbon emissions and a better urban living environment. 'This initiative is a key milestone under the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, reinforcing the Kingdom's ambition to become a global logistics hub connecting three continents,' said Al-Jasser. The corridor strengthens multimodal integration and supply chain efficiency, while enhancing trade facilitation and the operational performance of Jeddah Islamic Port. It also unlocks new investment opportunities in the region and creates added value for transporters, importers, exporters, shipping lines, and logistics park users. Jeddah Islamic Port is a major gateway on the Red Sea coast, covering 12.5 square kilometers with 62 multi-purpose berths, state-of-the-art terminals, and specialized facilities that support regional and international trade.
