PM Expresses Appreciation, Applauds Successful Organisation Of LIMA'25, ASEAN Summits
GENERAL
PUTRAJAYA, June 5 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all parties involved in the successful organisation of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25) and the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits last month.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who is also MADANI Government spokesperson, said Anwar conveyed the appreciation message during today's Cabinet meeting, describing both events as historic milestones for Malaysia.
'The Prime Minister deeply values the efforts of all personnel and teams involved in organising LIMA'25 in Langkawi, as well as the ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, at the end of May.
'Most heads of state and government leaders expressed their satisfaction with the warm hospitality and thorough preparations by Malaysia as the host,' Fahmi said at his weekly press conference.
Fahmi said that the Prime Minister is currently considering appropriate forms of recognition to honour the dedication and commitment shown by all parties involved, with a formal announcement to be made in due course.
'Insya-Allah, several options are being considered, and we leave it to the Prime Minister to make the official announcement,' he said.
LIMA'25 in Langkawi gathered 860 exhibitors from 24 countries, comprising 426 international and 434 local companies.
Themed 'Today's Innovation, Tomorrow's Achievements', this year's edition was the largest maritime and aerospace exhibition in Southeast Asia since LIMA's inception in 1991.
In Kuala Lumpur, apart from the 46th ASEAN Summit, two high-level meetings were also successfully held last month, namely the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the first ASEAN-GCC-China Summit.

Senior Citizens Bill Expected To Be Tabled Next Year
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri speaks at a press conference after the ASEAN + Republic of Korea Conference on Care and Support for Older Persons, held at a hotel here today. KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- The government has completed the draft for the Senior Citizens Bill, which aims to protect the rights and well-being of the elderly, and is expected to be tabled in Parliament next year. Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said her ministry plans to submit the draft to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) by the end of this year. At the moment, she said, the ministry is engaging in further consultations with industry players and state governments, including those in Sabah and Sarawak. 'What we are doing now is that we need to go back to the industry players, the stakeholders, to talk to them again. And we also have to refer to every state. 'So this is an ongoing thing, because the bill is not just going to be for us over in the peninsula. It's also for various states, especially those in the Borneo side,' she told a press conference after officiating the ASEAN + Republic of Korea Conference on Care and Support for Older Persons, here today. Also present was Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad and Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN, Lee Jang Keun. Nancy further added that the increasing interest in the caregiving industry has contributed to the need for wider consultations. 'We want to expedite this. It's just that there are quite a number of people who are coming in with a lot of things, and this industry is booming. A lot of people are interested in it and they want to be a part of the lawmaking process through the consultation,' she added. -- BERNAMA

Melaka Raises Monthly Food Aid For Asnaf, Muslim Converts To RM300
MELAKA, June 30 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government will increase the monthly food assistance scheme for asnaf (those eligible to receive zakat or tithe) and Muslim converts from RM250 to RM300, effective tomorrow. State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman said that, however, the aid provided under the same scheme by the Melaka Islamic Religious Council (MAIM) for the hardcore poor recipients will remain at RM400 per month. He said the monthly food assistance scheme is one of the key aid initiatives by MAIM, under which recipients receive food items using their identity cards at 74 designated MAIM food supplier panels across Melaka. 'As of June 24, a total of 7,810 individuals are receiving assistance under the scheme, also known as 'daruriyah' aid, comprising 112 from the hardcore poor category and 7,698 from the poor group. 'The decision to increase the rate of this assistance was made in response to the rising cost of essential goods, which has impacted the value of items provided to the asnaf. Moreover, this scheme had not seen a rate revision in recent years,' he said in a statement today. He said several other assistance schemes have also seen rate increases, including a one-time primary school fee aid for asnaf children, which has been raised from RM70 to RM100. 'Cash assistance for Muslim converts has been increased from RM200 to RM300. New converts will now automatically receive RM300, up from RM200 previously,' he added. Meanwhile, in another development, Rahmad said Melaka recorded zakat collection of RM141.37 million last year, while zakat distribution to asnaf registered under MAIM totalled RM151.22 million. 'For this year, the zakat allocation is projected at RM33.68 million, an increase of RM4.38 million or 15 per cent compared with last year's allocation of RM29.3 million,' he said.
