
Incessant rainfall in Kalaburagi district causes damage to houses
Kalaburagi: The continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has disrupted normal life across various taluks of Kalaburagi district.

In Dandoti village of Chittapur taluk, walls of two houses collapsed, resulting in substantial damage.
The affected residences belong to Muhammad Rafeeq Rasool Saab Donga and Puthali Begum Hussain Saab Donga of Dandoti village, where the walls completely gave way. Dandoti resident Mainoddin reported that the recent persistent heavy rainfall led to the collapse of walls in these two houses in their village.
The damage includes loss of household items such as cooking utensils, gas, and a refrigerator, totalling Rs 3 lakh.
The villagers appealed to minister Priyank Kharge and relevant officials to facilitate govt compensation promptly.
In Ingalagi village of Chittapur taluk, an ancient Chalukyan-era watch tower collapsed due to heavy rain, falling onto a house and completely damaging a parked two-wheeler. Tahsildar Nagayya Hiremath visited Ingalagi village on Friday evening amid the rainfall, offering consolation to the affected families and assuring compensation within legal parameters.
Officials reportedly issued instructions to remove the remaining structure of the watch tower. The public commended the swift response of officials in Wadi taluk, especially their prompt action following news reports of incidents, and their efficient communication with relevant authorities.

Shimla: Since the onset of monsoon in the state on June 20 till date, Himachal Pradesh has suffered losses of over Rs 1,500 crores, officials said on Sunday. So far, 88 people have died and 35 have gone missing in rain-related incidents, and 1,316 houses have been fully or partially damaged in the state. The state has experienced 42 flash floods, 25 cloudbursts and 32 landslides during this monsoon, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). Dharamshala received 35 mm of rainfall, followed by Malraon 26.4 mm, Kangra 26 mm, Dhaulakuan 17.5 mm, Kahu 14.5 mm, Manali 11 mm, Jot 10.8 mm, Jubberhatti 10.4 mm, Bajaura 10 mm, Joggindernagar 6 mm and Narkanda 5.5 mm. Thunderstorms lashed Sundernagar, Shimla, Murari Devi and Jubbarhatti. Nearly 200 roads, including two national highways, were closed for vehicular traffic on Sunday evening owing to the rains and 75 power distribution transformers and 97 water supply schemes have also been affected across the state. Around 131 roads, including the Manali-Kotali road (NH-70), were closed in Mandi district alone, where multiple cloudbursts wreaked havoc on June 30 night. National Highway (305) Sainj to Aut road is blocked at Kekhsu and Jhed due to landslides in Kullu district. There was no significant change in the minimum and maximum temperatures, and Kukumseri was coldest at night, recording a low of 12.8 degrees Celsius, while Una was hottest in the day with a high of 35.6 degrees.

Flood threat looms in Kerala: Rivers overflow, dams opened; IMD issues warning
NEW DELHI: Heavy rains and strong winds continued to lash parts of Kerala on Sunday, forcing authorities to open dam shutters and issue flood alerts across multiple districts. Rising river levels, uprooted trees, and power outages were reported in several areas. In Wayanad district, officials opened the shutters of the Banasura Sagar dam by 85 cm to release approximately 100 cusecs of water following intense rainfall in the catchment area, according to news agency PTI. Residents living downstream were advised to remain vigilant. In neighbouring Pathanamthitta district, all three shutters of the Moozhiyar reservoir were opened after water levels crossed the red alert mark of 190 metres. 'This is the worst waterlogging we've seen this monsoon,' said Manoj Panakkal, a shop owner at Padma Junction. 'We were hoping that the canal rejuvenation work under Operation Breakthrough would help. But Saturday's high tide and rain overwhelmed the system.' Officials face criticism Local opposition leaders criticised the city administration over delays in implementing flood mitigation projects. 'Despite Rs 10 crore being allocated, the dredging of the Thevara–Perandoor canal has not been completed,' said Antony Kureethara, leader of the opposition in the municipal corporation. MG Aristotle, parliamentary party secretary of the UDF, added that canal rehabilitation work remained on paper, with no progress on land acquisition or removal of encroachments. With more rainfall expected in the coming days, state and district authorities remain on high alert.
