In a viral Instagram video shared in July, an English bulldog puppy was left home alone for the first time out of her crate, and her owner was not ready for what she found when she returned home an hour later.
The hilarious clip, shared under the username @dgeorge.n.daisy.englishbulldogs, has a caption that says, "when you leave your puppy home alone outside of the crate for their first time and think you're coming home to a disaster."
However, as the poster returns, prepared for the worst, she finds her puppy nestled between the couch and the pillows undisturbed, napping like a little angel all on her own.
"Daisy's first time home alone outside of the crate for over an hour and this is what we come home to … A sweet sleepy princess," the caption says.
Pet MD says that bulldogs aren't known for being very active, or for showing naughty behaviors such as excessive barking or digging. However, when they get bored, they may experience destructive behaviors, like all other pups.
Destructive behavior in dogs can often be treated by identifying the root cause and implementing a consistent training and lifestyle adjustments.
Treatment typically focuses on modifying the dog's environment and behavior, such as providing stimulating toys, reducing unsupervised time, and increasing physical activity and socialization.
Dogs showing signs of separation anxiety may benefit from gradual desensitization to being alone and learning to dissociate cues like jingling keys from being left alone.
It is important to discourage attention-seeking behaviors by only giving attention when the dog is calm. In severe cases, veterinarians may recommend medication for anxiety. Punishment is highly discouraged.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 223,000 views and almost 15,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Laura.s.koehler, commented: "This happened to us too. If I forget something or come back early, she looks at me like, 'Why are you here?'"
Kelliebiggins posted: "One day a week my bulldog stays home alone 8am-4pm … I honestly think it's her favorite day … She's exhausted from us all being home in the days prior and goes on a snooze marathon!"
Angelabananangela added: "Why they always messing up the pillows though?!?"

Wildfire Smoke Triggers Air Quality Alert Across New York: What to Know

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. An air quality alert was issued for the state of New York, including New York City and Long Island, on Saturday due to smoke drifting in from wildfires burning in Canada. The alert, issued by the state's Department of Environmental Conservation and Department of Health, is in effect through Saturday night, with improvements expected Sunday. The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed hazy skies and the smell of smoke across the region, attributing the conditions to smoke trapped in a sinking air mass above the Northeast. Why It Matters The high levels of fine particulate pollution, known as PM2.5, pose a significant health risk to millions, particularly individuals with pre-existing conditions such as asthma or heart disease. Health officials are advising New Yorkers to limit outdoor activities and stay indoors as much as possible while the alert remains in place. Wildfire smoke from Canada has become a recurring environmental concern for the U.S. this summer, with over 550 active fires currently burning across the country's western and central regions. Wind patterns are carrying the smoke hundreds of miles into the U.S., worsening air quality across multiple states. The sun is seen covered by smoke from the Canadian wildfires on July 25 in Blaine, Minnesota. The sun is seen covered by smoke from the Canadian wildfires on July 25 in Blaine, To Know The NWS said smoke became lodged in a zone of sinking air in the mid-levels of the atmosphere, which has prevented it from clearing. "You may be noticing hazy skies and a light smell of smoke in the air," NWS posted, noting that satellite images show a milky white haze over New England and parts of the Empire State. At midday Saturday, cities like Boston reported air quality index (AQI) levels above 150, considered "unhealthy," while New York City's air remained in the "moderate" range. Meteorologists warn that changes in wind direction or pressure could bring more smoke into the region depending on how the weather evolves over the coming days. The Air Quality alert regions, per New York's Department of Environmental Conservation, consist of: Long Island, which includes Nassau and Suffolk counties New York City Metro, which includes New York City, Rockland, and Westchester counties Lower Hudson Valley, which includes Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Ulster, and Sullivan counties Upper Hudson Valley, which includes Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, and Washington counties Adirondacks, which includes Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, northern Herkimer, Lewis, St. Lawrence, and Warren counties. The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre reported more than 550 wildfires burning nationwide, with over 15 million acres scorched so far. While most of the fires are located in central and western Canada, wind patterns have carried smoke into Ontario, Quebec, and across the Northeastern U.S. The smoke was funneled into the region by a cold front that triggered storms on Friday. High pressure behind the front caused northerly winds to trap the smoke near the ground. What People Are Saying New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in a press release this morning: "(DEC) Commissioner Amanda Lefton and State Department of Health (DOH) Commissioner Dr. James McDonald are issuing an Air Quality Health Advisory for fine particulate matter on Saturday, July 26, 2025, for the Long Island, New York City Metro, Lower Hudson Valley, Upper Hudson Valley, and Adirondacks regions due to the impact of smoke from wildfires in Canada. The pollutant of concern is: Fine Particulate Matter. The advisory will be in effect from 10 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. It added: "DEC and DOH issue Air Quality Health Advisories when DEC meteorologists predict levels of pollution, either ozone or fine particulate matter (PM2.5), are expected to exceed an Air Quality Index (AQI) value of 100. The AQI was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale, with a higher AQI value indicating a greater health concern." What Happens Next? A new front is expected to arrive early next week, potentially bringing more smoke and similar air quality concerns to the Midwest and Northeast. As rain pushes in from the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley, the current plume of smoke is expected to drift offshore. Sunday is projected to bring clearer skies, but smoke models suggest another wave of wildfire haze could reach the Northeast early next week.

Love addiction and social media stalking could be frying your brain, study finds

Love's got people literally losing their minds. Folks who obsess over their romantic partners — also known as 'love addiction' — were more likely to report brain fog, memory problems and trouble focusing, a new study conducted by a group of Italian researchers found. Even the mildly lovesick felt scrambled, especially when social media was involved. Advertisement 3 Can't stop stalking your partner on Instagram? Experts say it's wrecking your focus and driving up your anxiety. 'It can certainly be psychologically, emotionally and neurologically draining,' said Dr. Marisa Cohen, a New York-based marriage and family therapist. 'They may start to experience withdrawal symptoms when removed from that person or relationship.' The study, published in the peer-reviewed journal Behavioural Brain Research, surveyed 600 Italian adults between July 2022 and May 2023, more than 70% of whom were women, using validated, self-reported questionnaires on anxiety, depression, resilience, memory ability, attention and social media use. Advertisement Most participants were between 26 and 35 years old, and over two-thirds held a university degree. The researchers found a clear pattern: the more someone clung to their crush, the worse their attention span became. Higher love addiction scores were linked to increased anxiety, depression and mental fatigue. Heavy Instagram and TikTok use worsened symptoms. 3 Even people in happy relationships said they felt mentally 'off' when love took over their thoughts and screen time. highwaystarz – Advertisement 'People have much easier access to this window into their [partner's] life,' Cohen said. Scroll-happy users fueled jealousy by constantly stalking their partners online, sparking obsessive thoughts and wrecking their focus at work. Many said they felt mentally and emotionally 'off,' even while still in relationships. Dr. Sheri Meyers, Los Angeles-based relationship expert and therapist, calls it emotional sex — a psychological 'affair of the heart' that messes with your mind. 'You begin to channel the bulk of your emotions, hopes and desires onto the other person,' Meyers said. '[It] feels like romantic love but can lead us to act in ways that are contrary to our ideals, values and relationship goals and better judgment.' Advertisement 3 Being lovesick might actually fry your brain, according to a new study linking romance obsession to memory loss and brain fog. – The emotional rollercoaster, from longing to jealousy to withdrawal, can throw off the brain's reward system and lead to mood swings, obsessive thinking and mental burnout, she added. Dr. Ryan Rahm-Knigge, a Minnesota psychologist who researches compulsive sexual behavior, said while 'love addiction' isn't an official diagnosis, the study's findings echo clinical issues he sees in therapy. 'My experience is that these issues are more than heartbreak or desire,' he said. 'We see people suffering with feelings like their love pursuits or sexual behaviors or urges are out of control or in control of them.'

FDA Issues Highest Risk Warning For Cheeseburger Recall

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A brand of cheeseburgers is being recalled due to undeclared allergens. Sheehan Brothers Vending issued a voluntary recall for its Cheeseburgers, which were distributed across three states, due to undeclared sesame. As a result, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified the recall as a Class I health risk, the most serious type of recall. Why It Matters According to the FDA, millions of people in the U.S. have food allergies or food sensitivities. Food sensitivities can range from mild reactions to potentially life-threatening symptoms. The agency recognizes nine major food allergens: milk, eggs, sesame, fish, tree nuts, crustacean shellfish, peanuts, wheat and soybeans. Press Association/AP What To Know As well as the cheeseburgers, the company is also recalling its Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Italian Mini Subs, Pepperoni Pizza Sub, Chili Cheese Coney and BBQ Riblet with coleslaw due to undeclared sesame. All the products have been issued a Class I health risk. A Class I health risk, as defined by the FDA, is issued when there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death. This designation signals that the product poses an immediate danger to public health and requires urgent attention from both consumers and health professionals. The affected products were distributed in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio, specifically through Micro Markets and vending machines located throughout all of Ohio, northern Kentucky, and eastern Indiana. They were available for purchase between July 2 and July 8, 2025. The issue was identified during a routine inspection conducted by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. While no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled items, individuals with a sesame allergy or severe sensitivity are at risk of experiencing a serious or potentially life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product. All the affected products were wrapped in plastic. What People Are Saying The FDA, in an email to Newsweek in January: "Most recalls in the U.S. are carried out voluntarily by the product manufacturer and when a company issues a public warning, typically via news release, to inform the public of a voluntary product recall, the FDA shares that release on our website as a public service. "The FDA's role during a voluntary, firm-initiated, recall is to review the recall strategy, evaluate the health hazard presented by the product, monitor the recall, and as appropriate alert the public and other companies in the supply chain about the recall." It added: "The FDA provides public access to information on recalls by posting a listing of recalls according to their classification in the FDA Enforcement Report, including the specific action taken by the recalling company. The FDA Enforcement Report is designed to provide a public listing of products in the marketplace that are being recalled." What Happens Next Consumers who have a sesame allergy or sensitivity are advised to dispose of the affected product immediately and contact Sheehan Brothers Vending to receive a replacement pack. Anyone experiencing signs or symptoms of a foodborne illness or allergic reaction should seek medical attention promptly.
