
RM500 fine for trader who left friend to die
Magistrate Amalina Basirah Md Top also ordered the accused, Oon Tien Yue, 37, be jailed for a month if he fails to pay the fine.
According to the charge, Oon negligently failed to seek medical treatment for e-hailing driver Law Mun How, 37, in a manner that endangered the latter's life.
The offence was committed at a house in Jalan Perdana 6/5, Pandan Perdana, between 10.33am on June 20 and 7.50pm on June 22.
He was charged under Section 336 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of three months, a fine of up to RM500 or both upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, the victim, who was seriously injured after allegedly being assaulted, had been sleeping in a car in front of the accused's house from June 14 to 20.
On June 22, the accused brought the victim into the house, but left him in the living room without seeking treatment.
Investigations found that Oon was negligent by leaving Law unattended, which led to his death.
A post-mortem on June 23 revealed that the cause of death was infected wounds, with bacterial infection in body tissues, including the skin and muscles.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor M. Ramanathan Alias Ashwin urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence due to the seriousness of the case.
Oon, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency, saying he is responsible for the care of his elderly parents.

EAIC urges criminal charges against immigration officers for medical visa fraud
PUTRAJAYA: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) has called for criminal proceedings against Immigration Department officers involved in the unlawful issuance of medical visas to foreign nationals. The findings stem from a probe led by EAIC Commissioner Datuk Seri Dr Razali Ab Malik, which uncovered systemic abuse in granting social visit passes under the medical category. The investigation scrutinised approval protocols, collected witness testimonies, and seized documents before concluding that officers bypassed legal requirements. 'The probe revealed power abuse where incomplete applications were approved despite violating the Malaysian Immigration Circular No. 10/2001,' stated the EAIC. Five suspects arrested in Op Vulture over loan shark threats, red paint attacks
KOTA BHARU: Police have detained five individuals suspected of involvement in illegal moneylending activities, including intimidation tactics such as splashing red paint on borrowers' homes. The arrests were made under Op Vulture in separate raids across Kelantan. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirmed that the suspects, aged between 25 and 39, were apprehended in Pasir Tumboh, Kubang Kerian, and Pasir Hor. The first arrest occurred on July 23, while the remaining four were detained on July 25 following a red paint incident. Authorities seized 34 items believed to be connected to the crimes, including red paint, threatening notes, clothing, face masks, mobile phones, and motorcycles. 'Preliminary investigations revealed that all five suspects are believed to be linked to at least nine cases of property damage in Kota Bharu, Tumpat, and Tanah Merah,' Mohd Yusoff said in a statement. The suspects allegedly engaged in acts such as breaking windows with stones, pasting threatening notes, and padlocking gates to intimidate borrowers. The case is being investigated under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951 and Sections 427/506 of the Penal Code.
