Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from Kicker Trace Rudd
Rudd announced his commitment on Saturday to the Oklahoma Sooners. He said, "Sooner Nation, I am home and 100% committed. Unforgettable moment for me." He went on to thank Brent Venables, special teams coach Doug Deakin, and general manager Jim Nagy saying, "thank you... for believing in me and giving me this opportunity."
He's considered a five-star kicker by Kohl's Kicking and is the No. 27 place kicker in the 2026 recruiting class.
He has quick hips and creates explosive power on his contact. He is quickly developing into one of the top field goal kickers in the country. - Kohl's Kicking
Given the low margin for error in the SEC, placing a high priority on landing a top-flight kicker is critical. With how good the Sooners defense will be under Venables, Oklahoma needs to shine on special teams and the addition of Rudd, who also had an offer from Texas Tech, gives them a chance to improve their kicking situation.

Which college football teams have the toughest schedules in 2025? LSU, Oklahoma and Wisconsin lead the way
There are more than a few fan bases sweating their team's schedule ahead of the 2025 college football season. With imbalanced scheduling thanks to power conference expansion, some teams are facing an extremely bad draw this season. Schedules like what Purdue, Syracuse and UCLA have in the coming months are why you can't judge a college football team solely on its win-loss record. Here are eight teams with the toughest schedules this season. A playoff berth for a team like LSU or Oklahoma would be well-earned in 2025. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Arkansas Razorbacks Sam Pittman may need a winning season to keep his job in Fayetteville. And a winning season looks really difficult for the Razorbacks. Arkansas' over/under is 5.5 wins thanks to another tough draw and a non-conference schedule that's one of the toughest in the SEC. The Razorbacks travel to Memphis on Sept. 27 and then host Notre Dame a week later. The Tigers are a potential playoff team if they win the AAC. In the SEC, Arkansas travels to Ole Miss, Tennessee, LSU and Texas while getting Texas A&M and Missouri at home. That's six teams with at least 10 wins in 2024 on the schedule this year along with two potential SEC title game contenders in the Aggies and the Tigers from Baton Rouge. LSU Tigers No offense to Arkansas, but the Razorbacks currently don't stand out on LSU's 2025 schedule. The Tigers open the season on the road at Clemson, a team that should be one of the top favorites to win the national title. It's imperative LSU gets off to a good start. The Tigers have lost their first game of the season in each of the past five seasons since going undefeated in 2019. That stretch includes two straight losses to Florida State in 2022 and 2023 and a loss to USC to start the 2024 season. Florida visits Tiger Stadium in Week 3 and the schedule also includes trips to Ole Miss, Alabama and Oklahoma along with home games against South Carolina and Texas A&M. Mississippi State Bulldogs When you're at the bottom of the SEC, you're automatically facing one of the toughest schedules in the country. And it's hard to see how Jeff Lebby is going to get the first conference win of his MSU coaching career in 2025 without a massive upset. The Bulldogs' home schedule features games against Tennessee, Texas, Georgia and the season-ending rivalry game with Ole Miss while the road slate has trips to Texas A&M, Florida and Missouri. Oh, defending Big 12 champion Arizona State also comes to Starkville as part of a home-and-home series between the two schools. Good luck, Bulldogs fans. Oklahoma Sooners We're high on Oklahoma ahead of the 2025 season. The Sooners offense should be much, much better with offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and quarterback John Mateer arriving from Washington State. The defense was really good in 2024 and should be again in 2025. It just couldn't make up for the deficiencies at quarterback and injuries elsewhere on the offense a year ago. If Oklahoma is a playoff contender this season, it will be on the right side of any and all strength of schedule arguments barring a lot of surprises. The Sooners host Michigan in Week 2 and their final seven games of the season are a gauntlet. After the annual rivalry game vs. Texas in Dallas, Oklahoma plays at South Carolina, Ole Miss, at Tennessee, at Alabama, Missouri and LSU to end the season. Purdue Boilermakers Barry Odom's rebuilding job at Purdue is going to take a little bit. The Boilermakers were perhaps the worst power conference team in the country in 2024. Their only win came in Week 1 against FCS Indiana State. With games against Ball State and Southern Illinois to open the season, Purdue should start 2-0. From there, it gets rough. Purdue hosts USC and then visits Notre Dame before September is even over. October includes a home game vs. playoff sleeper Illinois and November looks rough. The Boilermakers open the month with back-to-back games against Michigan and Ohio State before ending the season against Washington and Indiana. Syracuse Orange The Orange had an incredibly strong 10-3 record in Fran Brown's first season at the helm. Getting to double-digit wins in 2025 will be an even bigger achievement with an offense that's almost entirely brand new. Syracuse opens the season in Atlanta against Tennessee and visits Clemson in Week 4 before finishing September against a Duke team that won nine games in 2024. In addition to that trip to Death Valley, Syracuse also goes to SMU, Georgia Tech, Miami and Notre Dame. That's an incredibly daunting road schedule and the home schedule isn't a cakewalk either. The Orange also get Pitt, North Carolina and Boston College at the dome in ACC play. UCLA Bruins The Bruins' first season in the Big Ten ended at 5-7. It was also DeShaun Foster's first year as head coach after Chip Kelly's departure to Ohio State. If UCLA gets back to a bowl game in 2025, the Bruins will have probably pulled an upset or two over the course of the season. UCLA hosts Utah — a favorite in the Big 12 after a down year in 2024 — to open the season and has a sneakily tough game at UNLV in Week 2. The Rebels made the Mountain West title game in 2024. From there, the schedule includes Penn State, Ohio State, Indiana, Nebraska, Washington and USC. That's three teams from last year's College Football Playoff and three others who have hopes of being in the mix in the Big Ten title race. Wisconsin Badgers The Luke Fickell era at Wisconsin has resulted in 12 wins in two seasons. Six wins in 2025 could be a massive accomplishment. Wisconsin may have the toughest schedule in college football in 2025. The Badgers visit Alabama in Week 3 after getting obliterated at home by the Crimson Tide in 2024. And Wisky's Big Ten schedule is flat-out rough. Wisconsin visits Michigan, Oregon and Indiana, and hosts Ohio State and Illinois. If that's not bad enough, the Badgers end the season with a game at Minnesota. The Gophers have won three of the last four rivalry contests. It could be a really rough season in Madison.

Georgia football 2025 offensive line preview
The Georgia Bulldogs have rebuilt their offensive line ahead of the 2025 college football season. Four of Georgia's five starting offensive linemen left for the 2025 NFL draft. UGA will be without last season's starting center Jared Wilson, guard Tate Ratledge, guard Dylan Fairchild and tackle Xavier Truss. Despite all the NFL talent, Georgia's offensive line disappointed last season. The Dawgs ran for an average of 124.4 yards per game (second-to-last in the SEC) in 2024. According to Pick Six Previews, Georgia generated the No. 65 run push in the country last year, which is middle of the pack. Georgia has to be more effective rushing the football this fall. In 2024, Georgia allowed 25 sacks (No. 57 (tied) in the nation), which was a considerable drop off after allowing just 13 sacks (No. 8 (tied) in the nation) in 2023. This season sets up to be a bit a more advantageous for the offensive line. Georgia opens the season with Marshall and Austin Peay, so the reloaded unit will have time to gel before playing on the road against Tennessee on Sept. 13. Georgia's schedule is a little bit easier than it was in 2024. UGA plays only three road games, which is very helpful for offensive linemen. Georgia's projected starting offensive line Left tackle: Monroe Freeling Left guard: Micah Morris Center: Drew Bobo Right guard: Daniel Calhoun Right tackle: Earnest Greene Georgia returns four offensive linemen with at least 20 games of experience. The Bulldogs are hoping to have a bounce back year from redshirt junior offensive tackle Earnest Greene, who battled injuries throughout in 2024. Greene has appeared in 24 games in his Georgia career including 23 starts. Greene is expected to primarily play right tackle after spending most of his career at left tackle. He is UGA's most experienced returning lineman and earned preseason All-SEC honors (third-team). Georgia redshirt junior center Drew Bobo, who is the son of Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, returns and has 20 career appearances for the Bulldogs including two starts. He is projected to start at center. Junior offensive tackle Monroe Freeling is expected to hold down another starting spot for Georgia. Freeling has appeared in 22 career games at UGA including a handful of starts. He struggled at times in 2024, but has the talent and size to excel in a starting role. Freeling missed the spring after having a shoulder surgery. Georgia's last returning offensive lineman with significant experience is senior offensive guard Micah Morris. Morris has played in 33 career games at Georgia including four starts. Morris has previously served as Georgia's fullback in short yardage situations. Morris is projected to start at guard and is a mauler in the run game. UGA also returns redshirt freshman Daniel Calhoun, redshirt sophomore Bo Hughley, redshirt sophomore Jamal Meriweather, redshirt freshman Michael Uini, redshirt freshman Nyier Daniels and sophomore Jahzare Jackson. We project Calhoun, who missed a chunk of time this spring due to a foot injury, to start at offensive guard. Uini and Meriweather are expected to be Calhoun's top competition at right guard. We'll see how the offensive line competition unfolds in fall camp. Redshirt freshman Marques Easley was arrested in the offseason and transferred to Purdue this spring. Jahzare Jackson was recently arrested in July and will likely be suspended at the very least. UCF Knights redshirt freshman offensive lineman Waltclaire Flynn, a former four-star recruit, transferred to Georgia this spring and helps replace Easley. Georgia's freshmen offensive linemen Georgia signed five offensive linemen in the class of 2025 including three-star guard Dontrell Glover, four-star guard/center Cortez Smith, five-star guard/tackle Juan Gaston, four-star tackle Dennis Uzochukwu and three-star guard Mason Short. Smith and Gaston are most likely to earn playing time as true freshmen. Offensive linemen typically don't play as freshmen at UGA, but Georgia lost a lot of contributors this offseason, so there are more paths to playing time for freshmen than usual. How does the SEC stack up in CBS Sports 1-136 rankings for the 2025 season?
The 2025 college football season will kick off in just a few weeks. More than ever, the SEC feels wide open this season with a number of teams that have a legitimate shot at winning the conference. The Oklahoma Sooners enter the year with a lot to prove. The Sooners open the season unranked in the US LBM Coaches Poll for the first time in 25 years. As they say, it's not how you start, but how you finish. It will be an uphill climb for the Sooners in the SEC, and they'll have to overcome one of the more difficult schedules in the nation. Oklahoma will play seven teams ranked in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll. Six of those teams are in the SEC, and each of them ranks ahead of the Sooners in CBS Sports' ranking of all 136 teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Here's a look at how the SEC stacks up. 70. Mississippi State Bulldogs SEC Rank: 16 US LBM Coaches Poll: Unranked Week 1: at Southern Mississippi Jeff Lebby has a tough road ahead for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Any success they have will be predicated on the offense scoring a bunch of points, and that's going to require a bounce-back season from Blake Shapen. 57. Kentucky Wildcats SEC Rank: 15 US LBM Coaches Poll: Unranked Week 1: vs. Toledo The Kentucky Wildcats are betting big on Zach Calzada after he put up a big season for Incarnate Word. He won't have to do much to improve on Brock Vandergriff's season for the Wildcats. 47. Vanderbilt Commodores SEC Rank: 14 US LBM Coaches Poll: Unranked Week 1: vs. Charleston Southern Vanderbilt enters the 2025 season just four spots behind the Arkansas Razorbacks in CBS Sports rankings. But Diego Pavia and the Commodores won't be sneaking up on anyone in 2025. Can they still pull off an upset or two and find their way to a bowl game? Pavia has Vandy believing. 43. Arkansas Razorbacks SEC Rank: 13 US LBM Coaches Poll: Unranked Week 1: vs. Alabama A&M Taylen Green raises the floor for the Arkansas Razorbacks, but the rest of the roster will keep the ceiling relatively low. They'll surprise a team or two in SEC play, but are far from a title contender. 32. Auburn Tigers SEC Rank: 12 US LBM Coaches Poll: Unranked Week 1: at Baylor The Auburn Tigers have a talented roster surrounding Jackson Arnold. They could be a surprise contender in 2025 if the former Sooner quarterback has improved his ball security and decision-making since last season. That week one matchup against Baylor will set the tone for the Tigers season. 28. Missouri Tigers SEC Rank: 11 US LBM Coaches Poll: Unranked Week 1: vs. Central Arkansas Despite losing several really important pieces off of their offense, the Missouri Tigers have a schedule that is manageable, including six home games to start the season. They don't go on the road until October 18 when they face Auburn. 24. Oklahoma Sooners SEC Rank: 10 US LBM Coaches Poll: Unranked Week 1: vs. Illinois State The Oklahoma Sooners will have one of the best defenses in the SEC in 2025, and the offense will be significantly better. If the offensive line returns to expectation, Oklahoma could be a conference title contender this year. 22. Ole Miss Rebels SEC Rank: 9 US LBM Coaches Poll: 15 Week 1: vs. Georgia State Lane Kiffin had the Rebels on the cusp of the playoff last year with a fantastic roster. But a lot of those stars are gone, and they're turning to a first-year starter in Austin Simmons. Stepping back a couple of wins wouldn't be out of the questions. 20. Tennessee Volunteers SEC Rank: 8 US LBM Coaches Poll: 18 Week 1: vs. Syracuse Tennessee lost so much on both sides of the ball that they seem more likely to finish outside the top 25 at the end of the season than they do ranked. 18. Texas A&M Aggies SEC Rank: 7 US LBM Coaches Poll: 21 Week 1: vs. UTSA Texas A&M will look more like an old school type of football team, playing a smashmouth style with a strong running game and one of the best defenses in the SEC. 16. South Carolina Gamecocks SEC Rank: 6 US LBM Coaches Poll: 13 Week 1: vs. Virginia Tech The Gamecocks lost a lot from a defense that was really good but will have one of the best quarterbacks in the nation leading a South Carolina offense that averaged 30 points per game a season ago. Even if the defense takes a small step back from the 18.1 points per game they allowed last year, the Gamecocks will still be a SEC title contender. 12. Florida Gators SEC Rank: 5 US LBM Coaches Poll: 17 Week 1: vs. Long Island University The only team that might have a schedule as difficult as the Oklahoma Sooners is the Florida Gators. D.J. Lagway has a high ceiling, but injuries continue to limit his development. If he can shake of the injury bug, the Gators could improve from their 8-5 season a year ago. 9. LSU Tigers SEC Rank: 4 US LBM Coaches Poll: 9 Week 1: at Clemson Garrett Nussmeier is one of the best quarterbacks in the country heading into 2025 with a great grop of skill players around him. If the defense has made a jump, the LSU Tigers will be a legit title contender. 8. Alabama Crimson Tide SEC Rank: 3 US LBM Coaches Poll: 8 Week 1: at Florida State A pair of upsets to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma kept Alabama out of the College Football Playoff, but Kalen DeBoer had a solid first year and has a talented roster led by one of the best players in the game, wide receiver Ryan Williams. 5. Georgia Bulldogs SEC Rank: 2 US LBM Coaches Poll: 4 Week 1: vs. Marshall There hasn't been a more consistent program in the country than the Georgia Bulldogs over the course of Kirby Smart's tenure in Athens. History suggests the Bulldogs will win 10 games and be in the SEC championship game at the end of the season. 1. Texas Longhorns SEC Rank: 1 US LBM Coaches Poll: 1 Week 1: at Ohio State All eye will be on the Texas Longhorns in 2025. With Arch Manning leading the way, Texas hopes to improve on back-to-back semifinal exits in the College Football Playoff and go the distance to win the national championship.
