Argentina player, not Messi, named MVP in Inter Miami's Club World Cup opener
While all eyes were on
Lionel Messi
, it was another Argentine who stole the spotlight in
Inter Miami
's
FIFA Club World Cup opener
on Saturday night in Miami.
The veteran goalkeeper
Oscar Ustari
was named MVP of the goalless draw against Egypt's
Al Ahly
, impressing with his composure, and impeccable performance under the goalpost.
Ustari delivered a standout performance with eight saves, including a crucial penalty stop and a key goal-line intervention, as Inter Miami battled Egypt's Al Ahly to a 0-0 draw in their Group A opener.
His most pivotal moment came just before halftime, when he denied Trezeguet's penalty and quickly reacted to smother the rebound before Al Ahly could capitalize.
Earlier, in the 33rd minute, Ustari showcased his reflexes with a brilliant save on a powerful header - a moment that ranked just behind his penalty heroics in preserving the clean sheet for Miami.

'I don't like to talk about myself. The team did a great job defensively and that is what I most care about,' Ustari said after the match.
'I remember being retired and knew that my return would come on a field, so I'm very happy about it (being back).'
The 38-year-old Ustari made a memorable return to the World Cup stage in the revamped FIFA
Club World Cup
format, nearly two decades after winning the U-20 World Cup in 2005 - a title he claimed alongside none other than his current Inter Miami captain, Messi.

Who is Lhuan-dre Pretorius? Meet 19-yr-old batsman who smashed Test ton on debut for South Africa against Zimbabwe
Lhuan-dre Pretorius Synopsis Lhuan-dre Pretorius, a 19-year-old, made a sensational Test debut for South Africa against Zimbabwe, scoring a century and breaking Graeme Pollock's long-standing record to become the youngest South African to register a Test half-century. His aggressive batting helped stabilize the innings after early wickets. South Africa may have found their next batting prodigy. ADVERTISEMENT On Saturday, 19-year-old Lhuan-dre Pretorius not only made his Test debut against Zimbabwe but also announced his arrival in emphatic fashion, by scoring a century and setting a new national record. The left-handed opener reached his maiden Test fifty off just 53 balls in the second session of Day 1 at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo and went on to smash a ton in 112 balls with seven boundaries and three maximums. With that, Pretorius became the youngest South African to register a Test half-century, breaking a six-decade-old record held by Graeme Pollock, who was 19 years and 317 days old when he scored 50 against Australia in 1964. Pretorius, at 19 years and 93 days, showed little nerves on debut. He launched the fourth ball he faced down the ground for six, signalling his intent early after South Africa lost early wickets and slipped to 55 for four in the first session. ADVERTISEMENT His counter-attacking knock helped stabilise the innings and push South Africa to a competitive position. A powerful left-handed batter and wicketkeeper, Pretorius has been a standout performer in South Africa's domestic and age-group cricket. He rose through the ranks of the country's elite school system and was already in the South Africa U-19 setup before finishing school. ADVERTISEMENT He spent most of his school years at St Stithians, a known talent hub, before moving to Cornwall Hill in Pretoria for his final year. His performances at the 2023 U-19 World Cup made him South Africa's top run-scorer in the tournament. He made his first-class debut with the Titans the same year. Pretorius also impressed in white-ball formats. In the 2023–24 CSA T20 Knockout Challenge, he was the sixth-highest run-scorer. He made his T20 franchise debut for the Paarl Royals in January 2025, blasting 97 on debut. Anraku, Bertone take season titles at Boulder World Cup
Innsbruck (Austria), June 28 (UNI) Japan's Sorato Anraku and France's Oriane Bertone captured the overall bouldering titles as the final stop of the 2025 IFSC Climbing World Cup wrapped up in Innsbruck, Austria on Friday night. Anraku, the Olympic silver medalist in Paris, clinched his third straight men's season crown after finishing second in Innsbruck. The 18-year-old competed in all six bouldering events this year, collecting three golds, two silvers and a bronze in a dominant campaign. France's Mejdi Schalck and Japan's Sohta Amagasa placed second and third overall in the men's standings. China's Pan Yufei achieved a career milestone, finishing 10th in the overall men's rankings, which marked his first time breaking into the season's top 10. The 25-year-old withdrew from the lead climbing the Innsbruck event due to a back injury after failing to reach the boulder final. "I felt drained throughout the semifinal," Pan said. "I'll skip the rest of the event to recover and focus on treatment." Despite only competing in four of the six World Cup stages, Pan reached two finals and claimed his first-ever World Cup victory earlier this month. "This season validated my progress and motivated me to aim even higher," Pan said. In the women's field, Slovenia's Janja Garnbret made a dramatic return to the competition scene in Innsbruck. The Olympic champion, who had focused much of her season on outdoor climbing, dominated the final by topping all four problems. She was the only climber to do so, despite lower rankings in qualification and semifinal rounds. Garnbret's gold, however, wasn't enough to shake the overall standings. Bertone secured the season title after taking silver in Innsbruck, followed by Japan's Mao Nakamura and 17-year-old American Annie Sanders in second and third place overall. China's Zhang Yuetong, who had shown signs of a resurgence this season, suffered a hand ligament injury in Innsbruck and will miss the rest of the World Cup. She finishes the season ranked 31st after reaching two semifinals in four appearances. UNI XINHUA RKM
