Selfie near KRS crest gate lands 2 youths in police net
Mandya: After a two-minute selfie featuring three youths near the crest gate of the closely guarded Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir went viral, police detained two of them on Saturday and launched a search for the absconding person.
The video was shot three weeks earlier.
All three have been booked on charges of illegal and wrongful entry under BNS for unauthorised entry into the heavily secured KRS Dam premises. Jeevan, 20, and Gangadhar, 32, both residents of Chikkadi village in Pandavapura taluk, along with their friend, shot a video standing close to the crest gate. The video clearly captures the individuals stating that security personnel attempted to stop them, but they managed to sneak into the restricted zone nonetheless, where civil work is being carried out.
They could access entry because the security grills were opened to facilitate construction at the dam site. While the incident initially appears to be a security lapse, sources reveal that the underlying issue is a critical shortage of manpower. The shortage of security personnel against the sanctioned strength has posed tough challenges to safeguard the sprawling 300-acre area comprising KRS Dam and Brindavan Gardens.

On average, over a dozen security staff are on duty per shift, including office personnel, making comprehensive surveillance nearly impossible. Repeated requests for additional manpower and essential equipment — such as walkie-talkies and baggage scanners — have fallen on the deaf ears of the authorities concerned.
The security at KRS and Brindavan Garden is handled by the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force.
They trespassed restricted area: SP
Of the CCTV cameras installed across the KRS premises, only a few are currently operational. The remaining units have been out of service for months, further crippling the already inadequate surveillance system. This negligence falls squarely on CNNL, which is responsible for the dam's maintenance and development activities.
Speaking to TOI, superintendent of police Mallikarjun Baladandi said: "It is restricted area, the trio have trespassed and hence we have arrested two of them in this regard.
With regarding CCTV and various other security related aspects, I had written two letters to Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited but they have not taken any action. Again we will write a letter about various requirements".
With daily footfall ranging from 5,000 to 10,000—and reaching up to 50,000 during Dasara — the current security setup is grossly inadequate. CNNL should prioritise recruitment, provide necessary equipment, restore surveillance systems, and ensure basic amenities are in place. Sources claim that due to a lack of vehicles, night patrolling has become challenging for the security personnel guarding the reservoir.

Psychopath 'Mango' terror in Kolkata college, say juniors
KOLKATA: Monojit Mishra aka Mango, the key accused in the rape of a 24-year-old college student in Kolkata, had long exhibited psychopathic tendencies and a penchant for sexual violence, according to former classmates and juniors. Mishra, expelled from the college's Trinamool unit in 2021, had repeatedly proposed to female students with the same line - "Tui amay biye korbi (Will you marry me)?" - including to the survivor he allegedly raped Wednesday. A college insider alleged Saturday that Mishra often morphed photos of girls and circulated them among friends, filmed intimate moments with women and shared them, and routinely body-shamed female students. Complaints of molestation, assault, extortion, and harassment were filed against him, but no action followed. Mishra retained access to campus buildings, manipulated college WhatsApp groups, and controlled information flow, several students said. "This person and his aides were a terror, especially for girls. Authorities knew everything but protected him. We even filed a formal sexual harassment complaint to the teacher-in-charge, but nothing happened," a third-year college student said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo A first-year student described Mishra as wielding unchecked power: "Those attached to the union had a licence to do anything. Posting obscene jokes and photos in groups was normal. We stayed silent out of fear." Another student recounted how Mishra threatened and assaulted students who participated in last year's 'Reclaim the Night' movement in protest against the RG Kar rape-murder case. Co-accused Promit Mukherjee alias Riju had ironically participated in protests last Aug demanding the death penalty for the accused in the RG Kar rape-murder case. Another co-accused, Junaid, is from Howrah. His home was locked on Saturday. Neighbours expressed shock. "It's distressing to hear Junaid's name in this case," Abbas Sheikh said.

Bengaluru woman kills pet dog, keeps decomposed body in flat for 3 days
Bengaluru: A woman has been booked on charges of killing her pet dog and keeping the body in her flat at Doddanekkundi, Mahadevapura, for three days. The incident came to light when other occupants of the apartment alerted civic authorities Thursday, saying a foul smell was emanating from the flat. Residents said the occupant, identified as Triparna Paik, wasn't cooperating with them to find the source of the smell and understand what had happened inside the flat. SHO denied anticipatory bail by Hisar court after affair with accused
Gurgaon: In a case that saw professional codes breached and lines between sleuth and suspect blur, an SHO who had an affair with the man she was tasked with investigating now faces arrest. The 50-year-old inspector was rapped for conduct "unbecoming of a police officer" as a sessions court in Hisar denied her anticipatory bail in an FIR filed against her at Azad Nagar police station on June 9 under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act, Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, IT Act and relevant sections of BNS. The court, however, also rapped police for adding irrelevant charges to the FIR. The complaint in the case is the wife of Aman Siwach, the man the SHO was investigating in a property encroachment case. Siwach's wife alleged the cop "deliberately" kept her husband under the influence of alcohol and forced him to spend Rs 1 lakh a month on her. She also claimed the SHO threatened to frame Aman in a rape case. But what this led to was a relationship between the two. Siwach's wife alleged he stopped coming home and travelled to various locations with the cop, including Sirsa, Pinjore, Shimla and Kasauli. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo She also alleged the cop pretended to be Siwach's wife at various places and used his credit card to buy expensive gifts and clothes. The FIR was registered against the SHO after Siwach's wife furnished WhatsApp chats and audio recordings as evidence. The cop moved court, seeking protection from arrest. But additional sessions judge Manglesh Kumar Choubey, while denying bail, observed that while intimate relationships between consenting adults are protected under Article 21 of the Constitution, they become "immoral" when the parties are already married (the SHO is married, too). The court was also critical of an investigating officer getting into a relationship with an accused, describing it as "moral turpitude". The court insisted on the need for the SHO's custodial interrogation to investigate the money trail and prevent interference with witnesses. "This was not a one-time affair, it continued. This relationship was not confined to personal intimacy but encompassed within its ambit every possible attempt of interference in the working of the police force. Such acts and conduct are not expected from any public servant, but it was unbecoming of a police officer heading a police station. Her custodial interrogation is absolutely essential for proper investigation, to confront her with all the transactions on the records, to investigate the money trail, and to stop her from interfering with the investigation and influencing the complainant and witnesses," the judge ruled. The court also reprimanded police for adding several unwarranted sections to the FIR against the cop, stating that such actions did not merit "any medal or appreciation". "Let all investigating officers know that the addition of unwanted and irrelevant offences in any FIR does not make them eligible for any medal or appreciation," the court said.
