UPSC Success Story: The UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) is arguably one of the toughest recruitment exams in India, and aspirants use a wide range of methods to prepare for this formidable test. While some rely on coaching classes, others find self-study to be a more sturdy option. However, IAS Vibhor Bhardwaj, a young IAS officer from Uttar Pradesh, used a completely different approach to prepare for UPSC CSE, he made use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance his subject knowledge, and prepare for the final interview. Who is IAS Vibhor Bhardwaj?
Born in Uttarawali, a small village in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, Vibhor Bhardwaj earned his MSc degree in Physics from the Hansraj College, Delhi University, and afterwards began preparations to clear the UPSC CSE and realize his lifelong dream of becoming a civil servant.
Vibhor Bhardwaj chose Physics as his optional subject for the UPSC exam, and relied on online coaching classes and self-made notes to prepare for the tough recruitment test. His efficient preparation strategy enabled him to quickly prepare for UPSC CSE prelims, and cover the entire UPSC Mains syllabus with a span of just seven months.
In an interview, Vibhor revealed that carefully studied previous UPSC CSE question papers, and used these as a guide to strategize his preparation. He also focused on daily news and current affairs, in addition to regular mock tests, which further sharpened his knowledge. How Vibhor Bhardwaj used AI to crack UPSC?
Interestingly, a key part of Vibhor Bhardwaj's UPSC preparation was the use of AI tools like Google's Gemini, which he used for mock interviews. Vibhor revealed that these AI chatbots acted like teachers for him, helping him identify his strengths and weaknesses.
The AI mock interviews faced him with a wide-range of questions, which sharpened and strengthened his preparation for the actual interview. IAS Vibhor Bhardwaj AIR
Ultimately, Vibhor Bhardwaj's hard work and dedication paid off when he cracked the UPSC CSE in 2022 with an All India Rank of 743. However, this rank could not ensure him an IAS post, so he tried again in 2024; this time jumping 724 ranks to secure AIR 19 and achieve his dreaming of becoming an IAS officer.

Google is rolling out Gemini Gems to Gmail, Drive and Docs

Google has expanded access for their custom Gemini AI assistants, Gems to their Workspace apps like Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drive and Gmail. Users will be able to create chatbots for specific tasks or use pre-made Gems without needing to switch between apps. There are already pre-made Gems that Google offers like Writing editor, Brainstormer, Learning coach and Coding partner. But users can build chatbots for tasks to 'minimise repetitive prompting,' the company said. Other basic tasks like @-mentioning and accessing files/folders are also supported by both custom and pre-made Gems. A blog posted by Google making the announcement shared examples of use cases for Gems, 'Leverage a copywriting Gem to create posts and content tailored to your target audience or create a Gem that helps with sales interactions that is grounded on information for a specific company, prospect, or industry or leverage an 'assistant gem' tailored to your job role to help provide more relevant summaries for you.' The feature is being rolled out over the coming weeks for Google Workspace customers who can access Gemini in the side panel of their apps. Gems was launched last year in August last year with the goal of becoming custom 'AI experts' for Gemini Business, Advanced and Enterprise subscribers. Users will have to either go to or click on 'Create a new Gem' option in the Workspace side panel to build custom Gems.

Google Veo 3 now available in India with a Gemini Pro subscription: Details

Google has begun rolling out Veo 3, its advanced text-to-video generation model, to Gemini app 'Pro' subscribers globally, including users in India. The update was confirmed by Josh Woodward, VP of Google Labs and the Gemini app, who announced on X that the feature is now accessible to all Pro-tier users worldwide. Initially, Veo 3 access was limited to subscribers of Google's Ultra Plan and later expanded to Pro-tier in select regions. While India was not initially included in the supported regions, some users had already started seeing the Veo 3 option appear in their Gemini app—hinting at a possible expansion. Google has now officially confirmed its availability in the country. Subscription required for Veo 3 Veo 3 was originally launched for AI Ultra subscribers; now, it is also available with AI Pro subscription (which costs Rs 1,950 per month) through a lighter version called 'Veo 3 Fast.' This version continues to produce eight-second videos at 720p resolution, but thanks to backend optimisations, it delivers results twice as fast. Pro users can generate up to three Veo 3 Fast videos per day, after which access reverts to the previous Veo 2 model. Google's AI Ultra subscription is now also available in India, priced at Rs 24,500 per month. Google Veo 3 in Gemini app: How to generate videos Open the Gemini mobile app on your smartphone. Ensure you have an active Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription. In the text box, type a prompt describing the video you want to generate. Below the text box, tap More > Video > Submit. Videos generated using Veo 3 in the Gemini app are eight seconds long and include audio. To download the video, simply tap on the video and then select Download. Google Veo 3: What is new? Unveiled at Google's I/O event last month, Veo 3 is the company's most advanced video generation model yet. Unlike earlier versions, it can produce not just lifelike visuals from written prompts, but also synchronised audio—ranging from ambient background sounds to spoken dialogue. According to Google blog post: 'Veo 3 excels from text and image prompting to real-world physics and accurate lip syncing. It's great at understanding; you can tell a short story in your prompt, and the model gives you back a clip that brings it to life.' Veo 3 also powers Flow, Google's AI filmmaking platform, which enables paid users to generate 1080p resolution videos, leverage advanced camera controls, extend existing footage, and more.
