Rafizi to revive reformist spirit via 'HIRUK' in battle royale against Nurul Izzah for PKR's No. 2 post
An acronym for Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi Dalam Ujian Kuasa (Keep Reform Idealism Alive in a Test of Power), the Ecinomy Minister who is renowned for his campaigning prowess will embark on a nationwide tour to rekindle the spirit of reform that has been a foundation of PKR's struggle since 1998.
Rafizi who had earlier offered to quit as minister and PKR No. 2 to propel the party for GE16 (16th General Election) has now made it clear that PKR should not be turned into 'an elitist or dynasty-based party'.
'We must return to rakyat (grassroots) and the voice of reform,' the Pandan MP was cited as saying in a campaign message circulated on social media.
The HIRUK nationwide tour series will kick off tomorrow (May 11) with the spotlight on the Melaka & Negeri Sembilan Zone at 9pm in Klana Resort Seremban.
Rafizi who toppled fellow contender Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (former PKR secretary-general) for the No. 2 post in the 2022 party polls (59,678 vs 43,010 votes) has nevertheless hinted in jest that the decision to defend his post was never easy to make.
'After two credit cards and one debit card were rejected, and my bank account having exceeded the limit, I finally managed to pay the nomination fee,' he tweeted on X.

'I've just completed my registration as a candidate for the Keadilan deputy president for this election.'
Brushing aside allegations of her decision to contest would breed nepotism, Nurul Izzah denied that her action would transform PKR into a 'parti bapa, anak & emak' (literally FAMA party).
'Actually, this label is not a new attack. In fact, since 1998 when the party founder and Reformasi fighters jointly established KEADILAN, this label has been used to belittle our struggle,' recalled the former Permatang Pauh MP.
'When I won the vice-president post with the highest number of votes in 2010, 2014 and 2018, the same attacks were still being made (Nurul Izzah did not contest in the 2022 party polls to focus on the Ayuh Malaysia movement).'
The eldest daughter of Prime Minister and party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim further stressed that 'I'm not interested in a cabinet position even if I win the deputy president position'.

Senator calls for fairness, historical clarity in Sarawak Day Message
Abun Sui Anyit KUCHING (July 21): Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Senator Abun Sui Anyit has expressed concern over what he described as persistent imbalances in Sarawak's development and governance in his Sarawak Day message. Abun said development in the state remains uneven, particularly between the coastal regions and the interior. 'Likewise, government administration—especially at the management and political leadership levels—remains imbalanced, with certain ethnic groups appearing to dominate governance and administration in Sarawak. Is this situation orchestrated or simply coincidental?' he questioned in the message. Despite these issues, the PKR Hulu Rajang division chief said it is not too late for Sarawakians to address the situation before it worsens. 'I pray that Sarawak continues to prosper within a fair and just Malaysia, and may the spirit of July 22 continue to ignite the patriotism of the sons and daughters of the Land of the Hornbill towards this region (Sarawak) and to our nation, Malaysia,' he said. He urged the younger generation of Sarawakians to appreciate the state's history and the struggles of their forebears, and to uphold the spirit of independence with pride, warning against forgetting the past amid modern development. According to him, July 22, 1963 marked a significant historical milestone when Sarawak attained self-rule from British colonial administration, which was a crucial step leading to the formation of Malaysia on September 16 the same year. 'Sarawak is a region rich in culture, natural resources, and a strong spirit of unity. Therefore, Sarawak Day not only celebrates independence but is also a time to reflect on our journey in pursuing justice, autonomy, and the rights enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),' he added. Abun also highlighted the significance of July 22, 1963, when Sarawak attained self-rule from British colonial administration, which he described as a crucial step toward the formation of Malaysia on September 16, 1963. He nonetheless noted there has been confusion and questions as to why July 22 is often referred to as Sarawak Day rather than 'Sarawak Independence Day' as gazetted when it was declared as a public holiday in 2016. He said the term 'Sarawak Day' is the official phrase used in government documents since its initial declaration in 2016, although from a historical and factual perspective, this day marks Sarawak's independence and freedom from colonialism. 'The choice of terminology may have been made out of political caution and federal sensitivities in the past. Nonetheless, I firmly believe that the people of Sarawak deserve to know and call our history by its proper name. 'Turun Anwar' rally alone won't dethrone PMX but a successful aftermath can rub off on MPs to vote him out'
THE PAS-inspired Turun Anwar campaign which is currently underway at state level prior to taking shape this Saturday (July 26) at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur will not be able bring down Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on its own. Taking the cue from PMX who has stated that he will not step down because he did not steal money belonging to the rakyat, veteran journalist and blogger Datuk A. Kadir Jasin reckoned that pending the 16th General Election (GE16), 'the only way to make him fall is by authentically proving that there is support from at least 112 MPs'. 'The Turun Anwar tour is more relevant to his opponents in preparation for the GE which must be held before Feb 17, 2028,' the national journalism laureate penned on his Facebook page. 'But if the rallies, protests and marches cause his supporters in the Parliament to defect, the possibility that he (PMX) will lose his majority and be forced to resign cannot be ruled out.' At any rate, Kadir does not expect PMX to retaliate by taking harsh action against the perpetrators and detractors, be they the opposition or even former PKR deputy president and ex-economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli's faction. 'Harsh action could further damage PMX's image as a reformist while increasing public sympathy and support for the opposition,' opined Kadir who is perceived by Madani backers to be a loyalist to twice former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who is now an adviser of Perikatan Nasional (PN). 'However, this does not mean that state apparatuses such as the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will not act'. The former editor-in-chief of mainstream New Straits Times further corrected public misconception that PMX on his own did not win the 2022 national polls through the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition which he helms as chairman. 'The PH he led didn't have enough seats to form a government. Once again, UMNO defected by giving support to PH and PMX. As a result, PMX has enough seats to form a government and become PM,' recounted Kadir.
