Egypt hails Kuwait as a cultural and media beacon of the Arab world

It also reflects Arab appreciation for Kuwait's initiatives in preserving heritage and supporting education and cultural development.
Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Dr. Tarek Saada, member of Egypt's Senate and head of the Egyptian Media Syndicate, emphasized that Kuwait's selection underscores its status as "an intellectual and media platform with broad Arab influence." He praised Kuwait's foundational role in journalism, theater, and television in the Gulf, crediting the country's political leadership for its unwavering support of cultural initiatives.
Dr. Saada also highlighted the opportunity this recognition presents to boost Arab cooperation and coordination in addressing shared cultural and political challenges. He pointed to the robust media partnership between Egypt and Kuwait as a model of bilateral cooperation, particularly in advocating for key Arab causes such as the Palestinian issue and regional security.
According to Saada, efforts are underway to deepen this partnership. Kuwaiti media organizations have been officially invited to explore new avenues for collaboration, including training, artificial intelligence applications in media, and enhancing journalistic narratives. A draft protocol to formalize these joint initiatives is currently being prepared by the Egyptian Media Syndicate.
Echoing this sentiment, Radwa Hashem, spokesperson for Egypt's Ministry of Culture, described Kuwait's selection as a well-earned recognition of its media legacy and longstanding support for Arab causes. "Kuwait has always served as a platform for dialogue and enlightenment," she said, citing its pioneering contributions to print, visual, and audio media.
Hashem emphasized the strategic role of media in shaping public awareness and fostering unity, advocating for new pan-Arab platforms and collaborative initiatives. She also expressed hope for launching a joint digital platform to promote Arab culture and safeguard the region's shared heritage.
Turning to Kuwaiti-Egyptian cultural ties, Hashem highlighted the deep-rooted relationship between the two nations and the promising potential for collaboration in documentary and drama productions, as well as joint cultural weeks.
She concluded by stating that Kuwait's selection presents a valuable opportunity to celebrate Arab identity, promote shared cultural values, and invest in modern platforms that preserve and revitalize Arab artistic and intellectual treasures.

Campaigners from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition had attempted to breach a Zionist naval blockade of the Palestinian territory of Gaza, but were intercepted late Saturday. The legal rights center Adalah told AFP its lawyers were in Ashdod and had been allowed to speak to 19 members of the 21-strong international crew, which included two French parliamentarians and two Al-Jazeera journalists. The remaining two of those detained were dual US and Zionist citizens and had been transferred to police custody, Adalah said. 'After 12 hours at sea, following the unlawful interception of the Handala, Zionist authorities confirmed the vessel's arrival at Ashdod port,' said the group, set up to campaign for the rights of Zionist entity's Arab population. 'Adalah reiterates that the activists aboard the Handala were part of a peaceful civilian mission to break through Zionist entity's illegal blockade on Gaza. The vessel was intercepted in international waters and their detention constitutes a clear violation of international law.' Earlier, the Zionist foreign ministry said the navy stopped the Handala to prevent it from entering the coastal waters off the territory of Gaza. 'The vessel is safely making its way to the shores of Zionist entity. All passengers are safe,' it said. Just before midnight local time on Saturday, video streamed live from the Handala showed Zionist troops boarding the vessel. An online tracker showed the ship in international waters west of Gaza. The ship had been on course to try to break a Zionist naval blockade of Gaza and bring a small quantity of humanitarian aid to the territory's Palestinian residents. The Handala's crew had said before their capture in a post on X that they would go on a hunger strike if the Zionist army intercepted the boat and detained its passengers. On board were activists from 10 countries, including two French MPs from the left-wing France Unbowed party, Emma Fourreau and Gabrielle Cathala. There are also American, European and Arab activists among those detained. A previous boat sent by Freedom Flotilla, the Madleen, was also intercepted by the Zionist military in international waters on June 9 and towed to Ashdod. It carried 12 campaigners, including prominent Swedish activist Greta Thunberg. The activists were eventually expelled by Zionist entity. – AFP

Kuwait's MBVISION Studios signs landmark MoUs with South Korea
RIYADH: The Korean Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Korea have officially selected Manal Al-Gharabally, Founder and CEO of MBVISION Studios, to represent Kuwait's creative sector at the K-Content Expo held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She was invited to explore the latest innovations in gaming, animation and K-pop production. The invitation came in recognition of MBVISION Studios as the first independent animation studio in Kuwait specializing in animation production and education, video games design, and integrated creative production since 2009. The visit included a high-profile signing ceremony on Thursday, July 24, 2025. During the event, Manal Al-Gharabally signed four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with both established and emerging Korean companies across four key sectors. In the video games sector, the two parties signed an agreement which includes the production, training, distribution, and education in both traditional and AI-driven game development, through a global ecosystem that connects learners with independent developers and international trainers. They also signed an agreement in the field of Intellectual Property (IP), which outlines terms for the licensing, leasing, and exchange of commercial IP rights between South Korea and Kuwait, including exporting Kuwaiti characters and importing South Korean ones to the Gulf market. The two parties also signed an MoU in the field of K-Dramas to localize, distribute, and culturally adapt South Korean family and content for children. In the field of interactive and smart art performances the two parties signed an agreement to develop immersive, technology-driven artistic experiences and exhibitions. The MoUs were signed with several companies, including Nonsense, for the exclusive licensing of educational content for children; Something Special, for the localization and distribution of Korean family dramas; Gwan Global, an award-winning startup specializing in both traditional and AI-powered game development; and Character Inc., to exchange and co-produce character IP between South Korea and Kuwait and organize interactive art exhibitions. Several additional MoUs will be signed at a later date. These include partnerships in educational board games, immersive performance experiences, and the licensing of Kuwaiti characters for the South Korean market, with further discussions planned in the next phase. This collaboration represents a strategic milestone in enhancing cultural and creative exchange between South Korea and Kuwait, showcasing the growing interest of South Korean companies in Gulf-based character IPs. A selected group of Kuwaiti and South Korean cartoon characters is currently undergoing artistic review, paving the way for future joint productions to be presented in Kuwait, South Korea and Saudi Arabia. Seungchan Lee, organizer of the K-Content Expo in Saudi Arabia, expressed her sincere appreciation for the joint collaboration between South Korean companies and their Kuwaiti partner. She highlighted the significance of this initiative in building sustainable cultural and commercial bridges between the two countries, and expressed her hope to see the outcomes of this partnership realized on the ground very soon. Manal Al-Gharabally stated: 'Our business relationship with private sector companies in South Korea and MBVISION Studios has been ongoing since 2018. Over the years, we've collaborated with Korean clients on multiple media and creative campaigns targeting both the Middle East and local markets. Today marks a new chapter transitioning from service based collaborations to strategic partnerships focused on cultural, media, and commercial exchange across the region.' She added that this collaboration under the auspices of KOCCA and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea represents a strategic milestone in promoting national identity and exporting local culture to global markets. She emphasized that South Korean companies have shown a strong interest in licensing original Kuwaiti and Gulf characters, while also exploring ways to introduce Korean characters to the region through mutual cultural exchange. As part of this initiative, three original characters created by MBVISION Studios have been selected for global distribution in the fields of gaming, media production, and interactive art experiences, alongside three South Korean characters designated for promotion in the Middle East. Discussions are currently underway to further expand this artistic and cultural exchange, with several collaborative projects already planned to launch from Kuwait and Riyadh.

New Housing Rule Shuts Door on Non-Kuwaiti Sons Over 26
KUWAIT CITY, July 27: Ministerial Resolution No. 19 of 2025 was published in the Official Gazette Kuwait Alyoum, introducing amendments to certain provisions of the Housing Regulations. According to the resolution, Articles 2 and 3 of Article 99 of the Housing Regulations have been replaced. The updated provisions specify that family members may benefit from government housing, except a non-Kuwaiti son of a Kuwaiti mother who is 26 years of age or older, unless he is an only child or has a severe or moderate disability. The amendment also mandates that housing units must not remain unoccupied without a valid excuse approved by the Housing Authority for more than 60 consecutive days or 90 non-consecutive days within 12 months. The resolution is effective immediately upon publication in the Official Gazette, and relevant authorities have been instructed to enforce it accordingly.
