According to PM Modi, the leaf is often used during festivals and special events in Trinidad & Tobago, showing deep respect for Indian traditions.
Earlier, PM Modi presented a replica of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir to PM Persad-Bissessar. He also gifted holy water from the Saryu river from the Mahakumbh 2025 held in Prayagraj.

Singapore: Indian-origin leader of opposition (LOP) in Singapore Pritam Singh is being questioned by the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) for having spoken about politics in the city-state on a Malaysian podcast. Singh, the secretary general of Workers Party (WP), shared his views on the Malaysian podcast which 'raises serious questions' as to why he chose to address the topic 'to a foreign audience', the Channel News Asia reported, citing PAP reactions. 'Strikingly, he chose not a local media outlet, but a podcast hosted by Malaysians and recorded in Malaysia to share his views on our domestic political landscape,' the party said in a statement. Singapore was part of the Federation of Malaysia till August 1965, and then became a sovereign state because of sensitive political differences with the central government in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. In a video released on YouTube on June 24, he spoke to 'Keluar Sekejap (come out for a while — if literally translated), a popular Malaysian political podcast hosted by former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan, previously information chief of United Malays National Organisation. It was Singh's most in-depth interview since the May 3 general election, in which the PAP retained power with 65.57% of the ruling party claimed 87 out of 97 seats, the 10 seats going to WP. The PAP said the issue was not 'merely a matter of platform preference. It touches on a fundamental principle - that Singapore's domestic affairs should be debated and decided by Singaporeans, within Singapore'.Quoting former opposition stalwart of WP Chiam See Tong, the PAP demanded: 'The opposition must be 'truthful ... good patriotic Singaporeans ... and not go around the world renouncing Singapore'.' During the podcast interview, which lasted more than one-and-a-half hours, Singh addressed a wide range of topics, including the WP's electoral strategy, and the intersection of race, religion and politics. " Desh Secular Nahi Hai": NDTV Confronts Vigilante Over Kanwar Yatra Crackdown
Muzaffarnagar (UP): Members of a Hindu group who asked a Muslim man to remove his pants to check his identity have doubled down on their act, claiming they have a right to check the religion of people working at shops and eateries along Kanwar Yatra routes in Uttar Pradesh. The row began after a Muslim man named Tajammul was found working under the assumed identity of "Gopal" at a roadside dhaba to protect himself from Hindu groups. The dhaba - which has since shut down due to protests - is off National Highway 58 in UP's Muzaffarnagar. Tajammul alleged members of the Hindu group pulled down his pants and thrashed him. NDTV spoke to the members of the Hindu group for an explanation. To a question why they took the law in their hands when it was the police's job to look into it, one of the vigilantes shot back, "Who has given you permission to ask such questions? If you were in our shoes you would have also asked for an Aadhaar card. These days media people show themselves as secular." When pointed out that the Constitution clearly says India is a secular nation, and whether they would either go by what they believe or what the Constitution states, he replied, " No, this country is not secular. This is the land of Sanatana dharma." He raised objections to Muslims working at what he called Hindu areas along the Kanwar Yatra route. "You tell me, who gave certificates to Muslims to put up boards in their shops showing gods and goddesses of Hindus, of Sanatana dharma?" he said. To a question why they are doing something which is the exclusive domain of the police, he said, "We can raise our voices. We have a right to ask." The controversy came a day after the UP government made it a must for all shops along the Kanwar Yatra route to have proper licences and clearly show the owner's original name. The Yogi Adityanath government has defended the move, with state minister Sanjay Nishad saying the accusation holds no weight. "The party whose nameplate the public has torn down and thrown away, that party's words hold no weight... Our government makes decisions for the welfare of the public, which is why the public stands with us," Mr Nishad said. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said every buyer has a right to know from whom they are buying. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi also slammed the UP government over its directive. "There are many hotels near the Muzaffarnagar bypass. These hotels have been there for years. Didn't the Kanwar Yatra start here 10 years ago? The Kanwar Yatra used to start peacefully. There was no unrest there. Why is all this happening now? Now, they are asking for Aadhaar cards from hoteliers. They are making shopkeepers remove their pants," he said. The yatra is scheduled to start on July 10. In procession, Kanwariyas collect water from a river and carry it hundreds of kilometres to offer it to the shrines of Lord Shiva.

'Dear Modi ji, Please Listen...': Naveen Patnaik, BJD On BJP MLA's Sexist Remark
New Delhi: Sexist remarks by BJP MLA Santosh Khatua - targting the BJD's Lekhasri Samantsinghar - have led to yet another fierce showdown between the ruling and main opposition parties in Odisha. The remarks have been condemned as 'misogynistic' and 'derogatory', and invited sharp responses from Ms Samantsinghar and her party boss, ex-Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. "The derogatory remarks made by BJP MLA Santosh Khatua against a respected BJD woman leader are extremely unfortunate," Mr Patnaik said, "Attempting to assassinate a woman's character.. is a reflection of a perverse mentality and aimed at suppressing women's voices." The reference to Op Sindoor - India's armed response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack - was particularly fierce. Sources said the operation had been named by Mr Modi because 'sindoor' refers to the vermillion mark Hindu women wear on their forehead after marriage. Op Sindoor was meant to avenge the honour of the women whose husbands were killed in Pahalgam, most after the terrorists established their religious identity. Ms Samantsinghar also said the BJP's attitude towards women had led to an increase in levels of violent crime against in the state. Mr Kathua has not yet responded to criticism from the BJD leaders. BJP Leader Arrested The BJP-BJD tension has only been exacerbated by the Kathua-Samantsinghar row. The two parties also clashed over the horrific assault of an Odisha government officer. BJP leader Jagannath Prasad has been arrested for the attack on Ratnakar Sahoo; videos showed Mr Sahoo being pulled out of a govenment building by a mob, thrown down the stairs, and then dragged down the driveway while some of the goons kick him. On Friday morning Mr Prasad surrendered before the police and was arrested. He said he had publicly condemned the attack and said, "Despite no evidence of my involvement... the OAS (Odisha Administrative Service) has been demanding my arrest."
