Tesla Robotaxis are already speeding, swerving lanes following late June launch, videos show

USA Today5 hours ago
Tesla launched its Robotaxi service less than two weeks ago on June 22.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is having a roller coaster of a year. The clean energy and electric vehicle company's share price plummeted by over 41% from January to April. It has since rebounded by over 42% from its yearly low of $221.86 a share to $315.65 a share as of July 2.
One of the company's latest innovations is the Robotaxi, a fully autonomous Tesla electric vehicle that's able to transport passengers without any interactions or guidance from a driver. The Robotaxi is already under investigation by the United States for breaking the rules of the road, according to The Guardian.
Tesla Robotaxis are already breaking rules after June launch
Tesla has been able to accomplish amazing feats in terms of production, sales, and technological innovations over the years. That said, its CEO Elon Musk has developed a habit of making grandiose claims regarding the true capabilities of products and services. One example is the company's full-self driving software.
The software was involved in at least one fatal crash, as reported by Bloomberg in June. Robotaxis are a much newer product than Tesla's full-self driving system. Since they operate without drivers, it's much easier to assign blame to the technology rather than the driver in instances of accidents or infractions.
So far, Robotaxis have been seen violating traffic laws by crossing yellow lines and exceeding posted speed limits, according to a June 23 video description from Yahoo Finance. This is especially worrisome since the Tesla launched its Robotaxi service less than two weeks ago on June 22.
How safe is a Robotaxi?
It's too early to definitely answer whether or not Tesla's Robotaxi service is safe, but it's clear that riders have experienced some mishaps first-hand. These mishaps range from awkward driving style to clear infractions. So far, the Robotaxi service hasn't been involved in any serious or fatal accidents, but Americans have been compiling different incidents on Reddit.
While the Robotaxi doesn't appear to be deadly (within the first few weeks of rollout) it's evident that the technology isn't infallible. Additionally, there are instances of the Robotaxi potentially damaging property including stopping so close to a parked vehicle that its tire directly contacted its body.
The future of self-driving cars
Companies like Tesla and Waymo (a subsidiary of Google's Alphabet Inc.) have invested big bucks into self-driving technology. Tesla was early to the semi-autonomous driving game and several automakers have since followed suit. That said, Tesla and Waymo are competing to make driverless vehicles ubiquitous, which could have serious repercussions for the jobs and safety of Americans.
Self-driving taxi services pose a significant threat to traditional taxi services, according to the Brookings Institution, a research foundation in Washington D.C. Based on recent Robotaxi videos, the technology has a long way to go before becoming safe enough to deploy in more major cities.

Videos Show Trump's Crowd Size at Iowa State Fair

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. President Donald Trump headlined the Iowa State Fair on Thursday night, hours after Republicans in Congress shepherded through a massive tax and spending package that provides tax cuts for wealthy Americans largely by reducing federal funding for social safety net programs. The Context Thursday's vote capped weeks of nail-biting tension among Republicans as intraparty dissent threatened to derail Trump's "big, beautiful bill," which delivers on his top legislative priorities: cementing the sweeping tax cuts, which disproportionately benefit wealthy Americans, enacted during his first term, and substantially increasing funding for border security and immigration enforcement. The Republican bill pays for the tax cuts and increased border security with deep spending reductions in critical social safety net programs like Medicaid and food assistance. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has estimated that the bill could result in 11.8 million more uninsured Americans by 2034 and add nearly $3.3 trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade. "But I hate them too, you know that?" "I really do, I hate them. I cannot stand them because I really believe they hate our country," Trump said. The president also claimed the GOP-led bill will rescue "over 2 billion family farms from the so-called estate tax or the death tax." The current U.S. population is a little more than 342 million. Elon Musk issues stark one-word warning on skyrocketing $36T debt

Elon Musk issues stark one-word warning on skyrocketing $36T debt originally appeared on TheStreet. Billionaires, including the world's wealthiest man Elon Musk, couldn't stop reacting as the U.S. national debt hits record high. As per the Treasury Department, the U.S. debt stood at $36.2 trillion on June 3. "Scary," the tycoon reacted on X. Musk's one-word response to the monumental debt encapsulates what nearly everyone has been feeling. The tech tycoon isn't the only billionaire worried about the precarious condition. Tyler Winklevoss, who co-founded the Gemini crypto exchange along with his twin brother Cameron Winklevoss, also reacted to the development. The billionaire crypto entrepreneur, however, seemed to offer a rather unique way out of the condition: Buy bitcoin Though Winklevoss's advice is quite uncommon, it is not entirely new. Even Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), a political heavyweight in the crypto circle, thinks on similar lines. Lummis, a leading pro-crypto voice in the U.S. Senate, is well-known for her BITCOIN Act that, once legislated, will codify President Donald Trump's March executive order to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve. Sen. Lummis thinks Bitcoin is the solution to the soaring national debt too. On March 27, she shared the stage with Strategy (Nasdaq: MSTR) founder Michael Saylor when she claimed: If it [Bitcoin] is held for 20 years, pursuant to the best modeling available, we can reduce our national debt by half. The views of the likes of Winklevoss and Sen. Lummis regarding Bitcoin's viability to resolve the debt crisis haven't found any wide support so far. Nonetheless, Trump has emerged as a strong supporter of Bitcoin during his second term. As per Bitcoin Treasuries, the U.S. holds most Bitcoin — 198,012 BTC worth $21 billion at the time of writing — among all the countries. As per Kraken, Bitcoin was trading at $105,704.14 at press time.
