Jim Goodwin expects more from Dundee United after European progression
The Taysiders were unconvincing in Luxembourg but a header in the 64th minute from their Moldova international Iurie Iovu proved decisive and set up a third round qualifier against Rapid Vienna, following the Austrian side's victory over Decic.
Tannadice boss Goodwin was not fooled by what was an historic result, the first away from home in Europe since 1997.
He told BBC Scotland: 'I didn't realise it had been nearly 30 years since we won away from home in Europe.
'It's a great result for this new group of players. Any game away from home in Europe is extremely difficult, there are no easy ties.
'On paper people would have looked at the game and thought it should be straightforward but Strassen were technically very good.
'They're no mugs so we're delighted with the result and clean sheet but we know we have to improve. We were really untidy on the ball, maybe that was a case of nerves.
'Over the two ties I don't think anybody could argue we deserved to go through.
'Neither performance was perfect, we've got a lot to learn and we need to do it quickly.
'There are definitely things we need to brush up on. We were very untidy on the ball.
'When we did play and pass the ball quickly we got into dangerous areas but [Yevhenii] Kucherenko, over the two legs, has had very little to do.'

However, the Taysiders forged ahead following a driving run into the left channel by former Falkirk midfielder Craig Sibbald, whose cross was repelled by Bairns defender Liam Henderson but only to on-loan Barnsley forward Watters, who thrashed the ball behind the helpless Bain. The second half continued in an open fashion and, after United striker Zac Sapsford was booked for diving in the Falkirk box, the home side levelled. Right-back Keelan Adams forced his way to the byline and cut the ball back for skipper Brad Spencer to lay it off to midfielder Tait, who hammered the ball high into the net from 12 yards. The home side had the ascendancy again but United stormed back into the lead after Camara drove forward and set up Dolcek, who beat Bain after his first effort had been blocked. Falkirk returned fire moments later when Ross' deflected shot from 14 yards after taking an Adams cross, wrong-footed Kucherenko. There were further opportunities at both ends in an exciting finale but the two sides sides had to settle for a point apiece.

McGlynn hails battle-ready Falkirk squad after draw with Dundee United
John McGlynn believes his Falkirk players showed they are Premiership-ready with their 2-2 home draw against Dundee United on opening day. The Bairns won back-to-back promotions under their experienced boss and the fans watched the Championship flag being unfurled before the game, marking their return to the top flight after a 15-year absence. 'We were 15 years out of it, the same group of players almost, stepping up to the challenge, 5700 season tickets. 'Dundee United filled their allocation as well. So great atmosphere. 'People want to come and be entertained. That was entertainment. That was definitely entertainment.' 'Ryan Strain, Amar Fatah and Kristijan Trapanovski were all missing and they can be great options for us off the bench or starting the game. 'A draw away from home, more often than not in this league, is not a bad result. 'On the back of us playing in Europe on Thursday, with the short turnaround and the lack of recovery time, I think we've got to be satisfied with a point. 'It was only a couple of years ago we were travelling to Arbroath to kick off the Championship season. 'In the space of two years, we're slightly disappointed to pick up a point on the opening day of the Premiership but looking forward to a game in Europe against Rapid Wien. 'When you put things in perspective, we've come a long way in a short period of time.' Ferry will be back from suspension for the midweek trip to Austria and Goodwin hopes some others will be available, although Trapanovski will see a specialist about his hamstring problem on Monday.
