MK Muthu, Eldest Son Of Kalaignar Karunanidhi, CM Stalins Brother, Dies At 77
He was the elder brother of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. Following the demise, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) cancelled all official events scheduled for the day.

His body will be kept for public homage at the Gopalapuram residence of his father, Karunanidhi.
Born to Karunanidhi and his first wife, Padmavathi, Muthu was a multi-faceted personality who made significant contributions to Tamil cinema and music before stepping into politics.
He made his acting debut in 1972 with Pillaiyo Pillai, where he played a dual role, and later starred in films such as Pookkari, Anayaa Vilakku, and Ellam Avale.
His on-screen charisma and physical resemblance to M.G. Ramachandran, the legendary actor and former Chief Minister, earned him considerable popularity. In addition to his acting career, Muthu also lent his voice as a playback singer.
His song Uyarndha Idathila Pirandhavan Naan from the film Anayaa Vilakku, shot at the Anna Nagar Clock Tower in Chennai, remains a cult classic among Tamil film music enthusiasts. Muthu's association with the Dravidian movement began early, deeply influenced by his father Karunanidhi's political legacy.
Though his foray into politics was brief, he continued to remain a part of the Dravidian ideological space throughout his life.
Chief Minister Stalin paid tribute to his elder brother in person and also expressed his grief through an emotional post on social media.
"The news of the passing of my beloved elder brother, MK Muthu, the eldest son of our family's pillar Kalaignar, has struck me like lightning. He loved me as much as our parents did. I am deeply pained by the loss of someone so close to my heart," CM Stalin wrote on his official 'X' handle.
He recalled that Karunanidhi had named Muthu after their grandfather Muthuveeran.
"Like our father, Muthu contributed to the Dravidian movement through theatre from a young age. He had a unique style in acting, dialogue delivery, and body language. It was this passion that drew him into cinema in the 1970s," CM Stalin added.

Their release dates clash directly with Bollywood movies War 2, Ikkis, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and each of these films having an estimated budget of ₹150-400 crore, the stakes are second half of 2025 began on a promising note for Bollywood with the unexpected success of the mid-budget Saiyaara, which has raked in ₹175 crore in box-office collections since its July 18 release. But the market dynamics will be different for the upcoming releases. "Screens are shared. Show timings are compromised. In north India alone, a high-stakes clash can mean a ₹20-40 crore loss in revenues for each film."Revenue from digital, satellite and overseas rights will also take a hit, say distributors. They suggest a solo release of a big-budget Hindi or southern film as a practical solution."A well-timed solo release can improve legs at the box office, optimise holdover weeks and elevate a film from a ₹300 crore hit to a ₹500 crore blockbuster," said Wadhwa of Karmic Films."Clashes are always bad for business," said Rajesh R Nair, the producer of Hindi films such as Kaminey and Adipurush. Southern films are tracking well, especially Kantara: Chapter 1, one of the most awaited sequels, he said. He also expects strong competition to the upcoming Bollywood movies from Rajinikanth's Coolie and the Prabhas-starrer horror-comedy: The Raja trade analysts believe that the timing of these releases may work in their favour, as these will be released on public holidays when footfalls are usually high in theatres."Also, the genres of these competing films are different. These films will be accommodated," said Girish Wankhede, a movie trade analyst. But in the long run, he said "only the content of these films will work".While the success of Saiyaara was encouraging, theatres also recorded noteworthy contributions from Hollywood films such as Superman, Jurassic World: Rebirth and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Apart from Indian films, Hollywood movies such as Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash are also scheduled for release in the second half of to media and entertainment research firm Ormax Media, the second half of 2025 is likely to contribute 52% to the all-India box office revenue of ₹13,500 crore estimated for 2025.

Udaipur Files row: Producer Amit Jani accorded CRPF Y-category security; had alleged threats to his life
Amit Jani (Image courtesy: X) NEW DELHI: The central government on Sunday provided Y- CRPF security to Amit Jani, the producer of the upcoming film Udaipur Files, following his claims of threats to his life. The security cover will be applicable in both Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, officials told news agency ANI. Jani, who also heads the Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena, a right-wing outfit, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah for the decision. "Heartfelt thanks to honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and home minister Shri Amit Shah ji for providing Y-category security from the Center," he wrote on X. Udaipur Files is based on the 2022 killing of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, Rajasthan — a murder which drew national outrage. Originally scheduled to release on July 11, the film ran into legal and censorship issues. It will now release on August 8. The Delhi high Court dad earlier stayed Udaipur Files' release despite censor board clearance, citing potential risks to communal harmony.
