2024 INDYCAR Rookie of the Year Linus Lundqvist On Standby For Nolan Siegel
Siegel missed the second race of the Iowa doubleheader weekend Sunday after suffering a mild concussion in a hard crash Saturday. He will meet with doctors on Thursday to determine if he can race.
"There are some protocols," team principal Tony Kanaan said. "He needs to rest. We need to keep an eye if he's sleeping more than usual. Mild workout and sim. We can put him on the sim."
Lundqvist will travel with the team on Thursday morning and will remain in Toronto either as a standby if Siegel is cleared or as the reserve driver if Siegel is still sidelined.
The 26-year-old Lundqvist had two top fives and four top 10s last year, as he finished 16th in the standings as a rookie for Chip Ganassi Racing. Without sponsorship, he lost his ride when Ganassi downsized its INDYCAR program from five to three teams.
The 20-year-old Siegel is 21st in the standings in his first full INDYCAR season.
Speaking after exiting the care center Saturday, Siegel said the car was handling differently at that point late in the race.
"It was a little weird from the time I left pit lane and hadn't had a lot of oversteer up until then," Siegel said. "And then I just lost it in the middle of [turns] 3 and 4. I was pushing hard. ... There's not much more to it."
Kanaan, a wildly popular former driver with 17 career wins who was the backup driver for Kyle Larson for the Indy 500, said he didn't want to drive the car.
"I truly, truly, truly love what I'm doing now," Kanaan said. "I always want to drive an INDYCAR, but I have no desire going against these guys and get beat."

Few players have been with the Vancouver Canucks longer than defenceman Tyler Myers. The 35-year-old signed with Vancouver in 2019 and is getting set for his seventh season with the organization. A leader on and off the ice, Myers is projected to play a key role once again during the 2025-26 season. Recently, Myers joined the Cam and Strick Podcast to discuss a variety of topics. During the conversation, the Canucks defender discussed Quinn Hughes' future, as well as who the best trash talker on the team is. To start, Myers was asked about next year and focusing on making the playoffs rather than dealing with the noise surrounding the team. Advertisement "It is nice to focus on that, said Myers. "I think, when you're talking about Vancouver, you're always going to hear about something. It's just the way the market is. When things aren't going well, it's tough, but when things are going well, it's it's an amazing place to play. My family and I, we're close to home. We love Vancouver. It's an unbelievable hockey city. there's going to be highs and lows. Coming into this year, excited to start. We're able to keep guys, you know, this last week, to keep a lot of the room intact with important guys. It's good, and now we can just focus on building for that." I'm not going to sit here and say there was intention, but I've been on a team where two players are in a full-on fist fight after a game, who I know are close friends. You know, there's going to be tension, but you know. Milsey and I got close, and it was a lot more than it needed to be made out to be. But, it wasn't anything crazy. We were figuring things out, just like every other team does with different situations. But our locker room was great. I like coming into the rink every day. The guys are really close, and we weren't too worried about it." Looking ahead to the future, Myers was asked about his new head coach, Adam Foote. After Rick Tocchet left this off-season to join the Philadelphia Flyers, Foote was promoted to head coach after spending the last two and a half seasons as an assistant. Based on his answer, it is clear that Myers is excited about Foote becoming his next head coach. Speaking of great players, Myers was also asked about Quinn Hughes, who finished third in Norris Trophy voting this past season. The two have been teammates since Hughes' rookie season, when he finished as the runner up for the Calder Trophy. In his answer, Myers not only discussed Hughes' development since joining the league, but also gave Vancouver's captain a significant compliment. Advertisement "It was five years ago when I was like, wow, this guy is amazing. And it seems like every year since then, he's only gotten better. Just when I think he's at his ceiling, in his prime, he just keeps getting better. It's crazy. But the thing with Huggy, I think the thing that separates him is his edge work, and the way he separates himself from guys gives him so much time and space. Then his skill just takes over. He is maybe the best player I've seen in my career. You know, him and Makar are on another level. It's fun to watch. He's amazing." Over the last few months, there has been considerable speculation regarding Hughes and whether he will leave once his contract expires in two years. The story then exploded when President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford mentioned that trading the 2024 Norris Trophy winner might be a possibility in the future. According to Myers, he has also heard the rumours but believes the story has become a bit overblown. "He doesn't like all that speculation and stuff. He loves his brothers, loves his family, like everybody else, but he's not going around the room saying he wants to play with his brothers. I know it's a big, big story around the hockey world, but everyone makes it a lot more than it is." Lastly, Myers was asked who the best trash talker on the team is. His answer was Kiefer Sherwood, who set the NHL record for hits in a season. As Myers explains, Sherwood was a massive addition to the lineup last season thanks to his never-end motor and willingness to put his body on the line every night. "You know what, he just finishes everything. If he's around another guy, he's finishing him. It doesn't matter where he is. He's a warrior. He competes with the best of them. He broke the hit record this year, right? But, yeah, I mean, anytime he was around somebody, he was leaning into it, whether it was big or small. It was really good for us. He brought an element that I think our team needed. He did great for us." If the Canucks are going to be successful in 2025-26, they need Myers to have another strong season. He averaged just under 21 minutes a night in 2024-25 and was a fixture in Vancouver's top four all year. Now entering his 17th NHL season, Myers sounds determined to ensure that the Canucks return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs next year. HALIFAX — Lauren Rowe's goal in the 79th minute snapped a scoreless tie and lifted the visiting AFC Toronto to a 1-0 Northern Super League victory over the Halifax Tides on Tuesday at Wanderers Grounds. Eight minutes earlier Toronto's Victoria Pickett drilled a shot off the goalpost as the first-place visitors applied pressure on the last-place hosts.
