Apple's Emoji Game is now out for News+ subscribers in the US and Canada

Engadgeta day ago
Apple has rolled out the Emoji Game exclusively for its News+ subscribers in the US and Canada, just in time for World Emoji Day. While the company originally announced the game for iOS 26 at WWDC earlier this year, the Emoji Game is now available to subscribers on iPhone, iPad and Mac running iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4 and macOS 15.4 or later, respectively. The game is similar to other word games out there like Wordle in that players would have to fill in the blanks to guess words and phrases. But like its name implies, players will have to fill the blanked-out letters with emoji instead.
If the letters for "apple" are missing in the word "pineapple," for instance, users would have to use the "apple" emoji to complete the word. For the phrase "the night is young," players can choose the baby emoji if it's the word "young" that's missing. In addition to standard emoji, the game also uses Genmoji, which are custom emoji created using Apple Intelligence. For each round of the game, players will have to complete three phrases. They can reveal the clues baked into the phrases if they want, but it will use up one of their moves, which are limited in number.
News+ subscribers will be able to play the game in the Puzzles section of the Apple News app. Later this year, they'll be able to play it in the upcoming dedicated Apple Games app, as well. An Apple's News+ subscription costs $13 a month. It gives subscribers access to magazines and newspapers, audio stories and regional publications, along with daily puzzles like crosswords and sudoku.

Set Up Mac Split Screen View to See Multiple Windows at Once

If you have at least 10 browser tabs open right now, this Mac hack is for you. Mac split screen view lets you keep multiple windows running simultaneously. With this setting, you don't have to waste time flipping back and forth from different windows or worry that you've lost an important tab. It's essential for busy multitaskers like me. You can split your display vertically down the center and place two different apps on either side. For instance, you can open a Zoom meeting on the left and take notes in a Google Doc on the right. Or, if you're writing a report and need to constantly refer to a PDF, you can view both documents at the same time without a hassle. Here's everything you need to know about setting up the Mac's split screen view to turbocharge your productivity. For more, check out everything we know about MacOS Tahoe 26 and the best laptops in 2025. How to enter split view on a Mac 1. Make sure neither window you want to use is in full-screen mode. 2. In one of the windows you want to use, place your cursor over the green button in the top left. Instead of clicking to maximize the window, hover until you see a drop-down menu. 3. Select Tile Window to Left of Screen or Tile Window to Right of Screen. Your Mac will automatically enter split-screen mode. 4. From there, other open windows will be displayed on the opposite side of the screen. Click the window you want on the rest of your screen, and it will fill the remaining half. 5. If you want to adjust the size of the windows, use the slider in the center of the screen. In Split View, you'll be able to look at both windows simultaneously. Multitask away! Here's How to Correct Tech Neck How to exit split screen on Macs If you're done using the split-screen layout, here's how to get out of it: 1. Move your cursor to the top of the screen until you see the sizing buttons at the top left of each window. 2. Click the red button to close that window or the green button to exit split screen. 3. Don't panic. Your other window is still open — it's just hidden in full-screen mode. To access it again, press the Mission Control button (F3) on the top row of your keyboard. 4. You should see two options at the top of the screen: Desktop and whatever window you had in split-screen mode. Click the other window, and use the green sizing button in the top left if you want to exit full-screen mode. If you're the kind of person (like me) who might need more than two windows open, you can always manually resize windows to fit three or four on your screen at once. The experience just won't be as visually clean as using tiled windows. Now Playing: New MacOS Tahoe Revealed at WWDC25 05:02 What is the keyboard shortcut for split screen on Mac? Mac keyboard shortcuts are abundant and handy, including one for split screen. Start by using control + command + F to enter full-screen mode. From there you can hit F3 to pull up Mission Control, then drag and drop the second app you want in your split screen next to your original window. It should display a preview of what the split screen will look like, along with a + (plus sign) next to it. Click back into the newly tiled apps and you'll be in Split View. If you want to get into Split View even faster, you can create your own keyboard shortcut. Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > App Shortcuts. You can click the + button to add a command named "Tile Window to Left of Screen" using your desired shortcut. Once you've activated the shortcut, your active window will tile to the left side of the screen and you can simply select a second window to be added to your split screen. Read More: The Keyboard Shortcut You'll Use More Than Ctrl + Z Why won't my Mac do split screen? First, make sure you're not currently in fullscreen mode. The split screen only works from the normal window view. If that's not the issue, go to System Preferences > Desktop & Dock and scroll to the bottom to see whether Displays have separate Spaces enabled. If not, enable it. If you don't see that option in the Mission Control menu, make sure you've updated to MacOS 10.11 or later. You can check your current OS version by clicking the Apple icon in the top left menu and then selecting About this Mac. If you're using an earlier version, you'll have to update by clicking the Software Update button on that screen. Keep in mind that not all apps support split screens. If you've tried everything else and the app still won't tile in split-screen mode, the app probably doesn't offer split-screen mode. How do you split screens on a Mac without full screen? The official split-screen function on Macs (called "Split View") automatically splits two windows in full screen. If you don't want the full-screen view (perhaps because you want to be able to quickly navigate between browser tabs), you can manually drag your windows to fit the desired space. This option gives you a little more customization than Split View. For more, check out how to unlock your Mac if you've forgotten your password and how to set up dual monitors.

The Folding iPhone Is Getting Real (and Might Use Samsung Parts)

This may be the final year without a folding iPhone. New reports this week suggest that Apple will launch the long-rumored folding iPhone in 2026. The latest buzz suggests that Apple is working with Samsung Display to help make the crease-free screen for the folding iPhone. It's no secret that Apple has been tinkering with bendable screen designs for years. The company has filed various patents about screens that fold, scroll and even self-heal from scratches. Last year, Bloomberg reported that Apple was exploring a folding iPad, and analysts have been predicting Apple would make a folding iPhone since 2021. But the rumors are looking more likely now as the buzz picks up, this time from a Korean news outlet and a forecast from an often-accurate Apple analyst, both pointing to Samsung Display as the company working with Apple to produce the screen tech for the folding iPhone. For this week's episode of One More Thing, which you can watch embedded above, I go through some of the latest rumors to paint a picture of what this fabled phone could look like -- and don't expect it to come cheap. It is predicted to cost between $2,000 and $2,500. Some of the work to make the folding iPhone may be coming from another new design: the rumored ultra-thin iPhone 17 and its thin battery is the kind of tech that helps make a thin book-style folding iPhone a reality. ‘The White Lotus' Checks Into the 2025 Emmy Noms With 23, Ties With ‘The Studio'

The White Lotus has checked into the 2025 Emmys. On Tuesday, the third season of the HBO series created by Mike White — who also directs, writes and executive produces the show — earned 23 Emmy nominations. It tied with Apple's The Studio, which Seth Rogen co-created, co-wrote, directed and starred in. The noms fall just slightly behind HBO's The Penguin, which scored 24, while Apple's Severance picked up 27 nods, the highest amount for a show this year. This latest season starred Walton Goggins, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Aimee Lou Wood, Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Jason Isaacs, Natasha Rothwell, Sam Nivola, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jon Gries and Sam Rockwell. Goggins, Isaacs and Rockwell are nominated in the best supporting actor in a drama series category. Coon, Posey, Rothwell and Wood are nominated for best supporting actress in a drama series. Scott Glenn is nominated for best guest actor in a drama series. And for the boss, White scored nods for best writing and directing for a drama series. The series itself earned a nod for best drama series, it's nominated alongside Andor, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Paradise, The Pitt, Severance and Slow Horses. White spoke to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the finale, for the White Lotus cover story, about the show's future seasons, 'I am grateful that I keep getting to do it. That's the goal. But everything's always going to be compared to something else. There's a critic I won't name, and every time I do something, they're like, 'It's not as good as the last one.' You didn't even like that one!' he said. 'I certainly have gotten enough praise, so it's probably good for me to have some people be like, 'Did you have to go so slow?'' However, castmembers Schwarzenegger, Monaghan, Nivola and Bibb notably did not score noms. Comedian Nate Bargatze is set to host the 77th Emmy Awards, which will be broadcast live on Sunday, Sept. 14, (8-11 p.m. ET / 5-8 p.m. PT) on CBS. The ceremony will also be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.* See this year's full list of nominees here.
