Eco-Shop confident ahead of main market debut with RM420mil IPO
Eco-Shop said its initial public offering (IPO) is set to be the largest IPO to be launched in the past eight months, with an estimated RM419.87 million to be raised through the public issuance of 347 million new shares, based on the IPO retail price of RM1.21 per share.
The company will also offer 675.37 million shares to institutional investors at a price to be determined through a book-building process, it said in a statement.
The IPO has secured ten investors acting as cornerstone investors, who collectively subscribed for 90.91 million shares or 90.31 per cent of the institutional offering, the firm said.
Its chief executive officer and executive director Jessica Ng said that global market uncertainties have undoubtedly impacted both investor and consumer sentiment.
However, she said Eco-Shop remains optimistic that its value proposition is timely and well-suited to the current environment.
"Market forces are definitely one of the factors that we take into consideration (for listing).
"However, in this tough situation (with market uncertainties), a business model like ours is even more needed. (Looking at the US tariffs) and the rising cost, we are very ultra-affordable," she told reporters during the press conference today, in conjunction with the launch of the IPO prospectus.
She said Eco-Shop has consistently proven its business strength over the years, with strong sourcing capabilities and a competitive edge in bulk purchasing.
"We also have solid operations and infrastructure, and the ability to buy in volume and repackage products into smaller sizes," she added.
Eco-Shop's listing on the Main Market is set for May 23, 2025.
In response to a question about the product price hike, Ng explained that the rise from RM2.40 to RM2.60 (starting April 14) was due to the increase in the minimum wage, but she emphasised that most of its workers fall within the B40 income group.
"The majority of EcoShop employees are under the B40 group. So, we will have to make this adjustment to help our employees as well.
"While the basic pay is RM1,700, Eco-Shop pays a basic wage of RM1,800. So, the decision was made as we have to balance between taking care of the stakeholders in the right way," she said.
Meanwhile, commenting on the IPO proceeds utilisation, Ng said Eco-Shop has allocated RM56.27 million (13.4 per cent) to accelerate the expansion of its retail footprint nationwide and RM200 million (47.6 per cent) to expand its distribution centres.
She added that RM10.90 million (2.6 per cent) is earmarked for investment in information technology hardware and software, RM100 million (23.8 per cent) towards repaying bank borrowings, and RM52.70 million (12.6 per cent) for working capital purposes and defraying the costs of the IPO and listing.
"We are targeting 70 stores per year for the next five years, and currently, the under-penetrated market will be the Klang Valley as well as East Malaysia.

Felda's shareholding in FGV increases to over 90 pct, plans for delisting
Felda holds more than 90 per cent of FGV's shares and does not intend to maintain FGVís listing status on the Main Market of Bursa Securities. — Bernama photo KUALA LUMPUR (July 30): The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) has received valid acceptances for all the remaining ordinary shares in FGV Holdings Bhd and has acquired the offer shares representing 91.73 per cent of the total issued shares of FGV as of 5pm on Tuesday. FGV said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia that Felda holds more than 90 per cent of its shares and does not intend to maintain FGVís listing status on the Main Market of Bursa Securities. It added that this offer is still open for acceptance until 5pm Aug 15, 2025 and Felda encourages all shareholders who have not yet accepted the offer to do so before the deadline expires. 'Bursa Securities will suspend the trading of the FGV shares immediately upon the expiry of five market days from the final closing date in accordance with subparagraph 16.02(3) of the Listing Requirements,' it added. In 2020, Felda triggered a mandatory takeover offer after increasing its stake in FGV from 33.66 per cent by acquiring shares from Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) and Urusharta Jamaah for RM658 million. FGV, which made its debut in 2012 at RM4.55 a share, raised RM10.5 billion in one of Malaysia's largest initial public offerings. Its share price has since declined significantly, prompting repeated privatisation efforts. Felda said the acquisition of FGV shares not only paves the way towards a more sustainable and focused Felda Group, but is also in line with Felda's aspirations in achieving the Felda Group's Strategic Plan and Direction 2025 – 2030. 'This effort is believed to enhance competitiveness and guarantee long-term returns to settlers and all stakeholders,' it added. – Bernama

Eco-Shop profits from rising demand for affordable products
RHB Research pointed out that Eco-Shop is focused on opening at least 70 new outlets per year. PETALING JAYA: Eco-Shop Marketing Bhd 's slower same store sales growth is outweighed by its strong gross profit margin expansion, analysts say. In Eco-Shop's recently announced results for its financial year ended May 31, 2025 (FY25), gross profit margin grew by 1.8 percentage points to 28.2%. Same store sales growth, however, declined marginally by 0.4%. RHB Research said Eco-Shop's FY25 results have surpassed expectations on strong profit margin expansion. 'We foresee the affordable goods sector continuing to grow rapidly by capitalising on the trend of consumers trading down, thanks to the wide value-for-money product range. 'With this, Eco-Shop offers earnings visibility, and, at the same time, robust earnings growth fostered by outlet expansion plans to extend its dominant market share. 'Such a scarce investment case should justify a premium valuation,' the research house said. RHB Research has reiterated its 'buy' rating on the Eco-Shop stock with a target price of RM1.51 per share. The target price implies a price-earnings multiple of 31 times on its FY26 earnings, higher than the sector average. In FY25, Eco-Shop's revenue jumped by 16% to RM2.8bil, underpinned by 74 net new store additions. A price increase in April expanded FY25's gross profit margin, more than offsetting the rise in operating expenditure stemming from higher minimum wages. Correspondingly, FY25's core net profit surged 17% to RM214mil. Quarter-on-quarter, revenue for the fourth quarter of FY25 (4Q25) dipped 6% to RM689mil after volume declined in reaction to the price increase. Consequently, 4Q25 core net profit fell 9% to RM57mil as gross profit margin expansion after one-and-a-half-months of higher prices was insufficient to offset the topline weakness and higher operating expenditure. In addition, RM5mil in expenses were incurred in 4Q25 to replace price tags, banners and billboards. Looking ahead, RHB Research pointed out that Eco-Shop is focused on opening at least 70 new outlets per year in order to penetrate underserved markets and consolidate its market leadership in the burgeoning sector. Meanwhile, it recently launched targeted marketing campaigns to drive footfall and sales by leveraging on its elevated gross profit margin.

FGV set to be delisted from Main Market
FGV said Felda and its persons acting in concert collectively held 91.73% of FGV's total issued shares, as at 5pm yesterday. PETALING JAYA: FGV Holdings Bhd is set to be delisted from the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia after the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) secured valid acceptances under its unconditional voluntary takeover offer. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, FGV said Felda and its persons acting in concert (PACs) collectively held 3.35 billion shares, or 91.73% of FGV's total issued shares, as at 5pm yesterday. In a notice issued by Maybank Investment Bank Bhd on behalf of Felda, it noted that as Felda and the PACs collectively hold more than 90% of the FGV shares and the former does not intend to maintain the listing status of FGV on the Main Market. It said the trading of the FGV shares will immediately be suspended by the local exchange upon the expiry of five market days from the final closing date of Aug 15. Earlier this year, FGV Holdings received an unconditional voluntary takeover offer from Felda for all the remaining shares in FGV Holdings that Felda does not already own at RM1.30 per share. The cash offer of RM1.30 per share remains open for acceptance until 5pm on Aug 15. The previous deadline was July 7. This move is part of Felda's long-term strategic plan to privatise FGV and consolidate its control over the plantation company. The takeover exercise comes after Bursa rejected FGV's request in March 2025 for more time to resolve its low public shareholding issue, which has remained below the 25% threshold since February 2021. For the first quarter ended March 31, 2025 (1Q25), FGV Holdings saw a net profit of RM36.48mil from a previous net loss of RM13.49mil in 1Q24, or earnings per share of one sen. Revenue was also up by 11% year-on-year to RM5.04bil. The group said the plantation division remained the main contributor, supported by a 6% improvement in fresh fruit bunch (FFB) yield and a 24% increase in FFB price. Meanwhile, the average crude palm oil price registered was higher, reaching RM4,784 per tonne at that time.
