'I don't think he finishes as a Laker' - Will LeBron request a trade from the Los Angeles Lakers?
Retirement, player option, or new team? The buzz around LeBron James' next move refuses to slow down. Amidst all the murmur around the Los Angeles Lakers' superstar's future, Nick Wright has come up with his perspective. He elaborated on how the New York Knicks' decision to trade Karl-Anthony Towns for LeBron James can rejuvenate the organization. Talking about the pros, he said:
'The pros, in my opinion, are oddly by adding a guy in year 23, a 40 guy who's going to be 41, you actually get better defensively for two reasons.
One is it's more Mitchell Robinson minutes instead of Town. So that's definitive, you know, that helps you a lot defensively. But also, as LeBron showed last year, once they got Luca, if he's not the primary offensive creator, he still has the ability to be a good, not great defender like he once was, but a good defender if that's where he can put his energy.
'
He further said: 'The other sneaky pro for the Knicks is, do they actually want to move towns before he's he wants this next mega extension when they traded all those picks for Bridges and you're going to have to extend him and you've already extended OG and you're obviously in the Jaylen Brunson business.'

He further continued, 'Like does the fact that LeBron would be short term act is that actually a positive because you don't want to you know have the big money associated with Carl Anthony Towns when there are, I think, legitimate real concerns of if our two best players are Brunson and Towns are we good enough defensively ever to win four rounds. I think those are all real, legitimate discussions.'
Wright's thoughts largely revolved around the role LeBron can play in the New York Knicks, without the team needing to make a long-term commitment.

Also, moving Karl-Anthony Towns can help the Knicks manage costs, as they have already signed hefty deals with Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, and Mikal Bridges, per Basketball Network. He further moved to how it is the right time to make the deal, as the trade leading to LeBron moving to an Eastern Conference team can improve the Knicks' chances to win the title after 52 years.
Wright pinpointed, 'The Celtics are off the chessboard.
The Pacers are off the chessboard, and the Bucks don't know where they are on the chessboard. We're already the favorites in the conference. We haven't won a championship in 52 years.
What if we go for it (LeBron-Karl-Anthony trade)? It certainly is a worthy legitimate conversation, just like it.'
Here is Wright's complete discussion:
Nick Wright: Knicks should TRADE KAT to Lakers for LeBron James | What's Wright NBA
In the discussion, Wright also pulled out LeBron James' longtime agent Rich Paul's statement to ESPN, where he explained LeBron's mindset for the coming season. Rich Paul had told ESPN, as per Shams Charania's report dated June 29, 2025:
'LeBron wants to compete for a championship.
He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all. We are very appreciative of the partnership that we've had for eight years with [governor] Jeanie [Buss] and [general manager] Rob [Pelinka] and consider the Lakers as a critical part of his career.
We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future. We do want to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career.
He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive, and want what's best for him."
So, the trick right now lies in finding the correct team for LeBron James, which can help him have a ring before he hangs up his sneakers. And currently, the best win-win situation is possible to achieve with the LeBron James-Karl-Anthony Towns trade. According to Wright, the only con of the trade will be LeBron's age, who will be playing his season 23, and is about ten years older than Karl-Anthony Towns.

If all factors as indicated by Wright are taken into consideration, James may consider exercising his player option and ask for a move to the Eastern Conference, with the New York Knicks as his next stop. Whether the trade will happen or not remains unclear till any negotiation moves are reported from either party.

Los Angeles Lakers Trade Rumors: No Deal for $109,000,002 Golden State Warriors Star, LeBron James Still Draws Interest

LeBron James is in Los Angeles Lakers (Image via Getty Images) The Los Angeles Lakers have chosen to stand pat this offseason, at least when it comes to trade activity. While minor moves were made—like signing Jake LaRavia and Deandre Ayton, re-signing Jaxson Hayes, and trading up in the second round to draft Adou Thiero—the front office has remained largely quiet. This silence recently gave rise to speculation about a possible trade involving ex- Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins. However, those rumors were short-lived. According to Dan Woike of The Athletic, speaking on The Lowe Post with Zach Lowe, there's no truth to the Lakers' pursuit of Wiggins: 'They're not interested in Andrew Wiggins. I think I can put that to bed.' Andrew Wiggins, who was recently acquired by Miami, was linked in trade rumors with L.A., sparking buzz among fans and insiders. Swapping Wiggins with Los Angeles Lakers forward Rui Hachimura was the most-discussed scenario. While Andrew Wiggins offers stronger perimeter defense, he's several years older than Hachimura and brings questions about shooting consistency. What the Rumors Meant for Rui Hachimura The rumors—though now debunked—had potential implications for Rui Hachimura's role with the Los Angeles Lakers . LeBron James Rumors: Four Teams Show Interest Andrew Wiggins (Image via Getty) While the Andrew Wiggins story quieted quickly, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James remained at the center of offseason drama. Though LeBron never requested a trade, he made it clear he was keeping an eye on the team's moves. That subtle pressure opened the door to widespread speculation, linking James to a variety of teams, from a nostalgic return to the Cleveland Cavaliers to potential moves to the Knicks or Mavericks. Yet throughout it all, both LeBron and his agent Rich Paul have held a consistent public stance—LeBron isn't asking to be traded. Still, behind the scenes, interest was real. During NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, reports confirmed that four teams reached out to Rich Paul to explore trade possibilities for the 40-year-old superstar. Brian Windhorst's Four-Word Reaction to Luka Doncic Contract Silence Sparks Speculation Among Los Angeles Lakers Fans

Luka Doncic (Image via Getty) As the Los Angeles Lakers embark on a new chapter led by Luka Doncic , questions loom about the franchise's long-term plans. Despite the excitement surrounding Doncic's blockbuster arrival, a cloud of uncertainty has emerged due to the lack of movement on a contract extension. However, ESPN insider Brian Windhorst is urging Lakers fans to remain calm. Luka Doncic's Arrival Sparks a New Era in Los Angeles Lakers Luka Doncic's move to the Lakers, following a monumental trade that sent Anthony Davis to Dallas, has reshaped the team's identity. The 25-year-old superstar made an immediate impact in his debut season with the purple and gold, averaging 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game. His stellar performance helped the Lakers return to the playoffs, although they were eliminated earlier than expected by the Timberwolves. As the offseason unfolds, fans are fixated on one question: when will Doncic sign a contract extension? Why Concern Has Built Around Luka Doncic's Contract Talks The anxiety among Lakers faithful is growing, especially with reports that Luka Doncic is eligible for a lucrative extension—either a four-year, $229 million deal or a shorter three-year option worth $165 million. Rumors of delays and silence have left fans uneasy, particularly with LeBron James stepping back from his long-standing leadership role in the organization. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Some fear the franchise's future hinges on Doncic's commitment. Why Brian Windhorst Tells Lakers Fans 'Do Not Freak Out' In an effort to calm the storm, Brian Windhorst addressed the situation on ESPN, reminding fans that Doncic is currently representing Slovenia in the EuroBasket tournament. 'He's currently playing for the Slovenian national team. Don't be alarmed if there are no updates on Luka's contract until September,' Windhorst said. He emphasized that contract discussions will likely resume after Doncic's international obligations conclude. A Common Delay, Not a Crisis According to insiders, this delay isn't unusual for international stars with summer commitments. The Lakers are reportedly giving Luka Doncic space and flexibility—both as a sign of respect and strategic patience. Negotiations are expected to accelerate in September once EuroBasket wraps up. There's also speculation that Doncic may pursue a shorter contract with a player option to maintain leverage, a growing trend among NBA superstars aiming for future flexibility. A Franchise Built Around Luka With new ownership under Mark Walter and the post-LeBron transition underway, the Lakers have clearly identified Doncic as their future. Reports suggest the franchise is fully committed to building around him and offering a deal that reflects his value and leadership potential. For now, the lack of contract news isn't a red flag—it's simply part of a long-term plan to usher in a new era of Lakers greatness. Jeff Teague picks Isaiah Thomas over Jalen Brunson despite the star's All-NBA rise and playoff run

Jalen Brunson now play for the NY Knicks (Image via Instagram / @jalenbrunson1) Jalen Brunson has a chance to leave his stamp on the NBA history and become one of the New York Knicks' greatest players as the upcoming season approaches. Although it's never easy to compete for a championship, his rise to fame has helped the team finish close to the top of the East in recent years. However, NBA All-Star Jeff Teague, isn't convinced that Jalen Brunson is superior to former Boston Celtics' star Isaiah Thomas. Jeff Teague downplays Jalen Brunson's rise, claims Isaiah Thomas was the better scorer and overall player Jalen Brunson, the star of the New York Knicks , has been nothing short of extraordinary since he moved to Madison Square Garden in 2022. He helped the team come around and even led them to their first Eastern Conference Finals in 25 years this past season. Thanks to the star player, the New York Knicks are now able to contend for a championship. He has developed into one of the league's best guards since coming to New York. He further led the team to the third-best record in the East last season. Jeff Teague ARGUES Isaiah Thomas is BETTER than Jalen Brunson | 520 in the Morning However, the former NBA All-Star Baron Davis realized that Jalen Brunson alone would not be enough to bring an NBA championship. This happened after the team lost to the Indiana Pacers in six games in the Eastern Conference Finals. Baron Davis pointed to Indiana's pressure and restricting Jalen Brunson's movement. He further stated on Paul George's Podcast P: "Nobody can stop him… But if you watch what Indiana did, the half-court became another defender. His space got limited. They need another guard to handle pressure, bring the ball up, and let him operate one-on-one late in games." On the other hand, Jeff Teague isn't convinced that Jalen Brunson is superior to Isaiah Thomas. The former was a 5-foot-9 MVP candidate in Boston in 2017. Although his career was brief, he was among the league's finest, which is why Jeff Teague sided with him in a dispute. During his appearance in Club 520 Podcast on July 15, he said: 'I'm taking IT… I am, they do the same s—, and IT do it better really.' Jalen Brunson is a talented player (Image via Instagram / @jalenbrunson1) When asked who is a better scorer as well as a better player, Jeff Teague went all out. He continued: 'I swear to god I'm not being biased… I watched Jalen Brunson grow up, but [Thomas] averaged 30. He averaged 30.' In 2016-17, Isaiah Thomas had his best season. However, next season, Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks will have a chance to put an end to this dispute on the floor.
