"Fort that Chhangur Baba built in India was funded by Pakistan": BJP MP Brij Lal
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 13 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Brij Lal on Sunday alleged that Chhangur Baba, running a massive religious conversion racket, was funded by Pakistan and other Islamic countries to make India an Islamic country. Speaking in Lucknow, Lal claimed that the India-Nepal border has been a sensitive area, with madrasas near the border serving as refugee camps. 'The India Nepal border has been a very sensitive area. These madrasas near the border are refugee camps. The fort that Chhangur Baba built in India was funded by Pakistan and other Islamic countries. They have only one goal: to make India an Islamic country,' Lal told ANI. Chhangur Baba, whose real name is Jalaluddin, was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for allegedly running a conversion racket that targeted Hindu women, particularly those who are poor, widowed, or socially vulnerable. Baba's associate Neetu alias Nasreen was also arrested and is currently in ATS custody. The ATS investigation revealed that Baba's network received nearly Rs 500 crore in foreign funding over three years, with Rs 300 crore allegedly funneled through illegal hawala channels via Nepal. 'They cannot win in a war... Our ATS has exposed this so-called Baba and his network... Funding is coming from abroad. Terrorists have been funded for a long time. Chhangur Baba used to sell rings on a bicycle, now owns 400-500 crores... All of this has been exposed in Modi and Yogi's rule, and it will be uprooted...,' added Lal. A resident of Madpur village in Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur district, Chhangur Baba, Neetu alias Nasreen, and others are accused of being involved in a large-scale conspiracy involving unlawful religious conversions, utilisation of foreign funding, and activities posing a potential threat to national security and communal harmony. The UP Police's Anti-Terrorism Squad had arrested Chhangur Baba and his aide in Lucknow on July 5. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said that illegal religious conversions are part of a deep-rooted conspiracy against the nation and society, and declared that such acts will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He highlighted the recent action taken in Balrampur, where a large-scale conversion racket was busted. He said that the state government has exposed a network involved in forced religious conversions, funded by foreign sources. CM Yogi Adityanath said, 'We have proceeded with a huge investigation in Balrampur. You must have seen he (Jalaluddin alias Chhingur Baba) had fixed rates (for conversion). He was receiving foreign funding. Transactions of more than Rs 100 crores were found in his 40 bank accounts.' Describing these developments as a threat to both social and financial security, the Chief Minister asserted that converting Scheduled Caste individuals by luring or intimidating them is unconstitutional and violates the spirit of social harmony. 'Such acts aim to break society and harm communal amity,' Yogi said, adding that strict action is being taken against those involved. (ANI)

"State education minister must resign," says Odisha Congress chief Bhakta Charan Das on Balasore student self-immolation case
ANI 13 Jul 2025, 23:39 GMT+10 Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], July 13 (ANI): Odisha Congress president Bhakta Charan Das on Sunday hit out at the BJP government over the issue of the Balasore self-immolation case and demanded the resignation of the state education minister. 'The suicide attempt took place a month after speaking to the MP. What were the CMO and the education minister doing for a month? Is this how justice is served? The student knocked on all the doors. The day she attempted suicide, she had left the principal's room. What he did to her is still in the dark. What prompted her to commit immediate suicide?... The principal must have disappointed her, leaving her with no other option. The BJP is in the government, and its student wing is not able to get justice for itself... How is the CMO working?... An ABVP student had to attempt suicide. How will she encourage others to join their party?... We demand that the Education Minister must resign or the CM must sack him...' Bhakta Charan Das told ANI. He further added, 'Why did this happen? Who was that girl? What was her complaint, and why did she attempt suicide? She filed an FIR in June. She tagged the Education Minister and the CMO on Facebook. She was from ABVP, and she also met Pratap Sarangi, Balasore MP... Pratap Sarangi compared the accused lecturer with Chalisa, which is used for Lord Hanuman. Someone who misbehaves with women cannot be connected with the Chalisa. Pratap Sarangi calls himself a Hindu; he should have managed his words.' The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on Sunday formed an eight-member fact-finding committee to investigate the alleged self-immolation attempt by a female college student here in Balasore. The eight-member fact-finding committee will be headed by state women's wing president Meenakshi Bahinipati to inquire into the self-immolation attempt by a student of Fakir Mohan College in Balasore. The student is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Congress MLA Sofia Firdous has been named in the a letter, the Odisha Congress said the committee will visit Balasore and inspect the incident site and submit a report to the Pradesh Congress Office. Case filed after glass shards found strewn on road in East Delhi, part of Kanwar route
A case was registered after glass shards were found strewn on a road in East Delhi, which is part of the Kanwar route, said police. The action came after Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena shared a video showing pieces of broken glass spread on the road. 'It came to notice yesterday night that a large amount of shards of broken glass had been strewn on a stretch of about one km of road in Dilshad Garden, on the route of Kaanwar Yatris, who walk barefoot,' the L-G wrote on X. 'Instructed police to reach the spot and directed PWD (Public Works Department) to immediately take corrective measures to clean the road. The road was cleaned within two hours by the PWD. Police have filed an FIR. The Crime Branch is investigating the matter,' he added. Giving more details of the incident, Prashant Gautam, DCP, Shahdara, said, 'An e-rickshaw was carrying some material from Shalimar Garden, UP, to Seelampur. The glass material broke midway. The e-rickshaw driver, Kusum Pal, was brought to the police station. The claims of the driver are being verified.' The e-rickshaw was allegedly hit from behind, leading to the incident, police said. There is no communal angle to the incident, officers added. According to the police, they were informed of the incident when a video was shared by the SDM Seemapuri at 6:25 pm on Saturday. Upon inquiry, it was found that this video was uploaded by Piyush, a resident of Nand Nagari. Delhi Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra on Saturday said that CM Rekha Gupta had also taken note of the incident. 'Some miscreants in Delhi's Shahdara scattered glass pieces on the Kanwar yatra route for about a kilometre. PWD and corporation employees are clearing the road. Local MLA Sanjay Goyal is present at the spot, and CM Rekha Gupta has also taken cognisance,' he posted on X. The video of the stretch — from Chintamani Chowk to Jhilmil Metro Station — was initially uploaded around 8:30 pm on July 10. 'ACP Seemapuri checked the area on Saturday, and upon information, only a few pieces were found scattered. The staff of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said that they removed these pieces on the morning of July 12,' the DCP added. A PCR call, police said, was received at Seemapuri police station from PWD Junior Engineer Avinash Pratap Singh. Based on the statement of the Junior Engineer, a case under sections 125 (acts endangering life or personal safety) and 299 of the BNS (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) was registered at Seemapuri police station.
