FM Sitharaman Invites Global CEOs, Investors To Join India's Growth Story
In the presence of Finance Secretary Ajay Seth and Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Ambassador of India to the US, the Finance Minister listened to their views on the reforms pursued by the Indian government, and gave feedback and observation on the existing policy framework.
They spoke about their keen interest and commitment for a deeper and broad-based investment collaboration between the US and India and shared feedback on how to further facilitate and enhance the investment experience.
The Union Minister thanked the participants for their valuable feedback and suggestions.
In her one-on-one meetings with top CEOs, FM Sitharaman discussed opportunities in the fields of AI, Cloud and digital infrastructure.
Jonathan Siddharth, CEO of Turing, expressed his desire to see India at the forefront of AI revolution and spoke about working in the domain of AI with India and through Indian contributors to create a sovereign model that can serve as a template for the world.
The Finance Minister highlighted policy framework that has been put in place by India for AI, and encouraged Siddharth to explore opportunities for collaboration and fruitful engagement.
Debanjan Saha, Chief Executive Officer at DataRobot, referred to India's potential to become an AI superpower and expressed interest in participating in the AI Centre of Excellence, for which the Union Budget 2025-26 recently allocated Rs 500 crore.
The minister underlined the steps that the government has taken over years to boost digital infrastructure, including budgeting Rs. 10,300 crore for IndiaAI Mission, creating AI language technologies through BharatGen and Sarvam-1, and the establishment of the Srijan Centre for Generative AI at IIT Jodhpur.
She informed Saha about the potential opportunity through the proposed Rs. 1 lakh crore corpus for private sector-driven research, development, and innovation.
In her meeting with Anjney Midha, General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz, and VMware CEO Raghu Raghuram, the minister discussed the remarkable transformation in technology space driven by the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting them to explore collaboration across sectors within the domain of AI.
She also met Thomas Kurian, Chief Executive Officer of Google Cloud and his team. They discussed the transformative evolution of India's digital infrastructure under the Digital India initiative in recent years, positioning the country as a global leader in digital adoption.
Kurian acknowledged and appreciated India's AI Mission, and the trajectory India is taking under the leadership of PM Modi and called for connecting India to the world via land and sea cables. He said that Google Cloud aims to operate entirely on carbon-free energy at its data centres and offices worldwide by 2030 and spoke about upcoming investment strategy that the group is working on for India.

Devendra Fadnavis orders probe into hotel deal involving Shinde Sena minister's son
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday announced a high-level inquiry to ascertain any irregularities in the tendering process to auction a hotel in Chhatrapati Sena MLA and state minister Sanjay Shirsat had come under fire after the opposition pointed out that his son's company was one of the three Danve, leader of the opposition in the legislative council, raised the issue through a calling attention The VITS Hotel in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar belonged to Dhanda Corporation, a company listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange. The properties of the Dhanada Corporation, including the VITS Hotel, were seized under the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Act, court ordered the auction of the hotel. Accordingly, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar collectorate conducted to the government-registered valuer's report in December 2018, the value of the hotel was Rs 75.92 crore. In 2025, when the property is being auctioned, the value is pegged as per the 2018 valuation. The value of the hotel is Rs 150 crore now as per private valuers, Danve alleged the lack of transparency in the auction process. He said three companies joined the process including M/s Siddhant Material Procurement and Suppliers Company. He said the company belongs to Maharashtra Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat's son alleged that the company's registration form states that it had applied for registration in 2024 but has not yet been alleged cartelisation in the tendering process. M/s Siddhant Material Procurement and Suppliers Company bid for the company at the price of Rs 47 crore. The next two bidders bid with a difference of just Rs 5 lakh each- at Rs 46.95 and Rs 46.90 crore."This is a fraud and the government is being defrauded in a big way. Voter roll revision: What is special intensive revision of Bihar voter list and what's the controversy

Supreme Court will hear petitions on July 10 challenging EC's decision to carry out the exercise in the poll-bound state . Why the revision? EC says the special intensive revision (SIR) aims to eliminate duplicate and bogus voters, especially those listed both at permanent and current addresses. EC insists that only residents currently living in an area should be on its voter rolls, in accordance with constitutional norms ensuring that only Indian citizens can vote. The exercise, last conducted in 2003, targets updated enrolment and removal of ineligible entries. Bihar currently has around 7.9 crore registered voters. Migrants need not panic Millions of Bihar residents have migrated elsewhere for work or education but remain enrolled in their native constituencies. EC clarifies that names already in the 2003 electoral rolls — available at https:// — or of their descendants need no documentary proof of ancestry when submitting the fresh enumeration forms being distributed by boothlevel officers. Why not Aadhaar, MGNREGA or ration cards? EC excludes Aadhaar, ration, and MGNREGA cards from valid proof, citing concerns that illegal immigrants, especially from Bangladesh, may have obtained these documents. EC response CEC Gyanesh Kumar said the process would ensure inclusion of all eligible voters. EC clarified that if documents are found lacking after the draft rolls are published on Aug 1, voters will have another opportunity to submit them during the scrutiny phase.

Centre submits sealed Nicobar report to NGT
Representative image NEW DELHI: The Centre on Monday submitted to National Green Tribunal (NGT), in a sealed envelope, the report of the high-powered committee (HPC) set up by it in 2023 to revisit green clearances for the Rs 81,000-crore Great Nicobar Island mega infrastructure project. The report is unlikely to be made public, with the environment ministry having earlier cited national security as grounds for keeping it under wraps. Spread over 16,610 hectares, the ambitious project has multiple components, including construction of an integrated international container transshipment terminal, a township, a civil and military use airport and a 450 MVA gasand solar-based power plant. Apart from the HPC's report, the environment ministry, in an additional affidavit before the NGT on Monday, submitted that Rs 80 crore has been released till Mar towards wildlife conservation plans and healthcare. The NGT is hearing an ongoing matter on alleged environmental violations in the project. The HPC, headed by the environment secretary, was constituted by the tribunal. In Dec last year, the environment ministry told Parliament that the HPC report had not been made public as it takes up issues and facts related to the strategic interests and security of the country.
