Global Campaign Supports Hakimi's Ballon d'Or Bid

Morocco World3 days ago
Rabat – Calls for Achraf Hakimi to clinch the Ballon d'Or are gaining momentum internationally, with growing support from not only Moroccans but international public figures, fans across social media, and more.
Guillaume Huin, who is known in the social media space and presents himself as McDonald's senior marketing director, joined the chorus of supporters, emphasizing that Hakimi deserves to win this year's Ballon d'Or.
'I love Dembele. I adore Yamal. But when it comes to performance, consistency, leadership and ability to be a game changer in the team. No one sits at the table with Hakimi from PSG,' Huin wrote on X.
The commenter applauded Hakimi's performance during the PSG-Bayern clash played yesterday, especially the Atlas Lion's impressive assists.
'He scores, he assists, he defends, he runs endlessly, and he commends his team with immense charisma,' he added.
'I do not know who will get the Ballon d'Or, so many deserve it this year, ut if Hakimi does not make it to the top 3, this will be one of the biggest anomalies in the history of sport,' he concluded.
Media and fans, as well as public figures alike, agree that Hakimi is not far from clinching the award.
Earlier this week, AFP released a report saying that Hakimi has strengthened his bid with standout performances throughout the season, including in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Former French international and radio analyst Jean-Michel Larque echoed the same remarks, saying PSG boasts the best full-backs in the world, including Hakimi.
'It would be great for football to recognize defensive players in the Ballon d'Or's top 10,' he said.
Former Moroccan goalkeeper Badou Zaki defended Hakimi and emphasized that there is no exaggeration in calling for Hakimi's inclusion among the Ballon d'Or bidders.
'The Ballon d'Or must go to the player who outshines the rest,' Zaki said. 'We talk about team trophies, personal contributions, and the values a player brings to the game. Hakimi belongs in that conversation.' Tags: Achraf HakimiBallon D'or

Bounou Open to Sevilla Return

Sevilla have re-established contact with goalkeeper Yassine Bounou over a possible return to the club in 2026. Spanish outlet ABC reports that club president José María del Nido Carrasco spoke directly with the Moroccan international during his participation at the FIFA Club World Cup with Al Hilal. Bounou, 33, is under contract with the Saudi club until summer 2026 but is said to have responded positively to Sevilla's approach. The La Liga side are working on cost-effective options in future transfer windows due to ongoing financial issues, with free agents and loan deals among their main targets. Bounou joined Sevilla in 2019 and made over 150 appearances before moving to Al Hilal in 2023.

Luka Modrić to Join AC Milan After Club World Cup

Luka Modrić will join AC Milan following the Club World Cup campaign this summer, ending a glittering 13-year spell with Real Madrid. The 39-year-old Croatian midfielder is set to sign a one-year deal with the Rossoneri, with an option to extend. Speaking to BBC Sport in his first press conference, Massimiliano Allegri said: 'Modrić will arrive in August.' 'While Reijnders and Hernández won't be part of the team next season, Maignan and Leão seem willing to stay,' added Allegri. Milan begin their Serie A campaign against Cremonese on 23 August. The 2018 Ballon d'Or winner has claimed 28 trophies with Real Madrid since joining from Tottenham in 2012 – including six Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns. Modrić began his career at Dinamo Zagreb before rising to prominence in the Premier League with Spurs. He has remained a pivotal figure into his late 30s, playing a central role in Croatia's run to the 2018 World Cup final and continuing to perform at the highest level for club and country. Hakimi Puts Bromance with Mbappé on Hold

Paris Saint-Germain will face Real Madrid in the Club World Cup semi-final on July 9 at MetLife Stadium, a match that sees Hakimi reunited with his close friend and former teammate Kylian Mbappé. But when the whistle blows, pleasantries will be paused. 'Mbappé is my friend, but each one defends his team,' Hakimi told reporters. 'I spoke with him before the tournament and he was sick, but now he is completely ready. I am happy to face him, but the most important thing is our team.' Hakimi, 26, is expected to start at right-back for PSG in what will be one of the most anticipated fixtures of the tournament – Mbappé's first match against his former club since joining Real Madrid on a free transfer last summer. Mbappé, who spent seven seasons at PSG, missed the group stage due to an inflammation in the stomach and intestines and has only featured from the bench in Madrid's knockout ties. But manager Xabi Alonso is reportedly ready to hand the 26-year-old his first start of the tournament. Hakimi, who formed a well-known off-pitch bond with the French forward during their time in Paris, said that friendship will take a back seat for 90 minutes: 'As I said, he is a good friend of mine, and [meeting him in the semifinals will] be great, but I will defend the colours of my team, which is the most important thing of all.' Nuno Mendes has the same sentiment: 'Yes, there's something extra because [Mbappé] was here with us. But the truth is that we're prepared to play against the entire Real Madrid team – that's our objective.' PSG are chasing their first-ever Club World Cup Final appearance, and Hakimi has made it clear – their friendship can wait. Tags: HakimiKylian MbappePSGReal Madrid
