Police said the key accused is Chetak Dongre (44), acting secretary of the society and headmaster, who took over after his father Rajesh Dongre passed away in 2018. Chetak, along with Sadanand Jangde (45), a teacher whose approval proposal was sent to the deputy director of education, and Gangadhar Dongre (63), society secretary, have been arrested by the SIT formed to probe the Shalarth ID scam. Sadar police station senior inspector Manish Thakare, under DCP Rahul Madane, played a key role in the investigation.
Chetak's mother, Parvatabai (75), society president, failed to appear for questioning on June 26, 2025, citing her age. The malpractices surfaced after accused Mahendra Kar's house was searched and documents seized by authorities.
The scam allegedly involves forged Shalarth IDs to secure unauthorised teacher approvals, raising concerns about systemic fraud in educational institutions. Authorities are probing deeper into the society's operations, with further arrests and revelations expected as the investigation unfolds.

SIT Arrests School Mgmt Chief, Detains Teacher in Shalarth ID Scam

Nagpur: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the multi-crore Shalarth ID scam arrested Omkar Anjikar, 46, president of a school management body, for his alleged role in facilitating the fraudulent recruitment of a woman teacher. The teacher, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, was also detained for questioning, with sources confirming her imminent arrest. The SIT uncovered discrepancies in her documents, which enabled her to obtain a Shalarth ID and siphon off govt funds through undeserved salary and benefits. Anjikar is accused of enabling the teacher's recruitment by approving fake credentials, allowing her to exploit the Shalarth system, designed to streamline teacher payments. The scam, involving crores of rupees, has exposed systemic vulnerabilities in the education sector's hiring processes. The SIT investigation revealed a network of individuals manipulating documents to secure govt benefits fraudulently. Sources indicate the woman teacher is under intense scrutiny, with the SIT gathering evidence of her complicity. The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in the ongoing probe, which has already identified multiple irregularities across schools. The SIT is now widening its net to uncover other potential accomplices within school managements and administrative bodies. The scam has sparked public outrage, with calls for stricter oversight of teacher recruitment.

Shalarth ID Scam: School director from Kalmeshwar arrested

Nagpur: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Shalarth ID scam in the education department on Saturday arrested Dilip Dhote, the director of a prominent school at Mohpa, Kalmeshwar. The arrest follows an extensive interrogation and investigation into the scam, which caused significant financial losses to the state exchequer. According to official sources, Dhote allegedly bypassed the headmaster to create and regularise Shalarth IDs for teachers, enabling unauthorised appointments. He is accused of facilitating the recruitment of several teachers using forged documents and approving their salaries and arrears dating back to 2013-14. Additionally, Dhote allegedly transferred these teachers to other schools under his management. Sources said that Dhote allegedly used coercive tactics and threatened to withhold salaries of teachers or staff who opposed his actions. The SIT's probe uncovered evidence of systematic manipulation, prompting swift action against Dhote. The arrest sent shock waves through the local education community, raising concerns about oversight in school administrations. Authorities are investigating to identify other individuals involved in the scam and to assess the full extent of the financial damage. Dhote is currently in custody.
