Midhun Reddy's arrest based on concrete evidence: HM

Gudibanda (Sri Sathya Sai district): Home and Disaster Management Minister Vangalapudi Anitha said on Monday that MP Mithun Reddy was arrested in connection with the liquor scam based on concrete evidence.
Addressing the media during her visit to Madakasira, she emphasised that the court remanded the MP after thorough verification, confirming that arrests are made only when credible evidence exists.
She further clarified that if a person is innocent, the judiciary would take the appropriate decision. Referring to the forest lands case and file-burning incidents involving Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy's family, she said investigations were ongoing.
Anitha also remarked that the State was pushed back by 20 years due to the previous government's failures.
Highlighting developmental initiatives, the Minister revealed that three cybercrime police stations were currently functioning in the State.
She pointed out that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has ordered the establishment of one cybercrime PS in every district. The government targets installing one lakh CCTV cameras across Andhra Pradesh, including every village and constituency.
She also shared that since the NDA government took charge, Madakasira, one of the most backward regions, has received investments exceeding Rs 5,000 crore. Over 1,200 to 1,500 women are employed in the Indian Designs and Exports garment factory, and an Anganwadi-style school has been established for their children.
She affirmed that women empowerment and regional development are being realised only under the NDA alliance. Irrigation and drinking water shortages in Madakasira have been resolved, and a solar park and defence industry are also being planned for the region.
In a strongly worded speech at a public meeting organised under the 'First Step in Good Governance' campaign in Madakasira, Minister Anitha launched a scathing attack on former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, labeling him a 'criminal in political guise.'
She alleged that the previous YSRCP government functioned with a collection-based governance model, riddled with irregularities and authoritarianism. 'Despite pressing all kinds of buttons, the people responded with just one limiting them to 11 seats,' she said, mocking the party's electoral performance.
The Home Minister claimed that marijuana cultivation and addiction had ruined a generation under the previous regime. The current government is taking strict action to eradicate marijuana by seizing properties of those involved in its cultivation, sale or transport.
She praised the efforts of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Minister Nara Lokesh (Education) and Minister Pawan Kalyan (Panchayat Raj) for their focus on employment, women's safety and youth welfare.
Anitha also reported that 250 borewells were drilled in Madakasira to resolve water issues. Under TDP rule, Handri-Neeva irrigation projects and Kia Motors brought jobs to the region. The Anna Canteen in Madakasira has beens serving meals to over 1,200 people daily. She concluded by saying that such public welfare programmes were destroyed during the YSRCP regime, and true governance has now been restored under the NDA.

Gujarat ATS and ED join Bharuch police in hawala racket probe

Officials of the Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Enforcement Directorate joined Bharuch police in a probe into the seizure of a 'hawala racket' of Rs 48 lakh, which arrived from Africa's Zambia to Bharuch, a few days ago. A maulavi from Aurangabad is under the scanner of the top investigating agencies after his claims allegedly turned out to be futile. Special Operations Group (SOG) sleuths of the Bharuch police had on July 17 caught three youths from a house in Karmad village on the outskirts of Bharuch and recovered Rs 40.35 lakh in cash from their possession. After the trio failed to provide satisfactory answers about the seized cash, they were detained. They were identified as Huzaifa Patel (22), Zakariya Bariwala (Patel) (23), and Mohammed Javid Patel (24) — all residents of Bharuch, and were interrogated. During interrogation, they confessed to having stolen the money from a car parked at Omkar complex in Ankleshwar on July 14. The trio also revealed that they had chased the car from Bharuch. Huzaifa disclosed that he had hacked into his friend and alleged hawala racketeer Shakir Patel's WhatsApp, and learnt that a huge sum of money would reach a cloth shop at Bharuch market on July 14. Shakir is from Bharuch. The information given by the trio led Bharuch SOG to a A l Quswa cloth shop at Bharuch market, where they questioned owner Afzal Patel, Zakariya's elder brother. Afzal confessed to having given Rs 48 lakh in cash to Maulvi Musa Randera, a teacher and resident of a madressa in Sillod village in Aurangabad and a native of Mangrol taluka in Surat. Afzal also disclosed that the money was given to him by one Zahur Patel on behalf of Shakir. The money was to be handed over to Maulavi Musa. In his statements to the Bharuch police, Maulana Musa disclosed that his cousin, Zahid Nomani from Zambia had sent the money as the former wanted to purchase a property in his village. Bharuch police also took statements of Shakir and continued the probe further. Top officials of the Gujarat ATS reached Bharuch two days ago, after learning about the seizure of a 'considerable amount from an undisclosed source'. The ED officials of Surat also reached Bharuch and collected the details from the Bharuch police and started a probe. A team of Bharuch police has gone to Aurangabad and is collecting more information from Maulavi Musa. Talking to The Indian Express, Bharuch SOG police inspector Anand Chaudhary said, 'The motive behind bringing such a huge amount of money is still not clear. Maulavi (Musa) had told us that he wanted to purchase a property in his village. Our team reached his native village and learnt that there is no such property, which is meant for sale. We also cross-checked the financial status of his cousin, Zahid Nomani, in Zambia, and found that he is living hand-to-mouth. He is doing a petty job and earning around Rs 6 lakhs per year.' He further added, 'The statements of Maulavi are contradictory, as his story of purchasing a property turned futile, and even his brother's financial status is also not sound. Maulavi is serving in a madressa in Aurangabad and stays there with his family and has a monthly salary of Rs 12,000.' Chaudhary further added, 'When we asked Maulavi as to why he had not registered an offence of theft of the cash worth Rs 48 lakh with Ankleshwar police, he could not give a satisfactory reply. This led the needle of suspicion on him. We have collected some vital information from those who have been interrogated and shared it with the ED and the ATS, so that they can dig out more information. The purpose of the transfer and usage of the money is not clear. We suspect that there was some other motive.' Sources in Bharuch police, meanwhile, said that Gujarat ATS officials have started questioning all those involved in this hawala racket, including Maulvi Musa and Shakir. Police suspect that Maulavi might have collected money through a hawala racket earlier as well.

BJP is looting farmers' money to build luxurious mahals: Kejriwal in Gujarat

The BJP is 'looting money of poor dairy farmers to build their luxurious 'mahals'(palaces)', said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal while demanding Rs 1 crore in compensation each from the state government and Sabar Dairy for the family of Ashok Chaudhary, a 42-year-old farmer from Zinzva village of Idar taluka, who died during a protest at Sabar Dairy in Himmatnagar on July 14. Assuring that AAP was 'standing with the farmers' and a bullet fired towards farmers would first pass through him, Kejriwal on Wednesday made these remarks while addressing a gathering of farmers in Aravalli district's Modassa, training his gun at the BJP-ruled state government for being 'insensitive, corrupt and arrogant.' He asserted that the countdown of BJP's downfall had begun with Chaudhary's death just like the 'fate of the Congress' after a clash in the 1980s killed 10 farmers. Kejriwal questioned the state government's declaration of 9.5 percent profit in Sabar Dairy for the current year, significantly lower compared to the previous profits of 16 to 17.5 percent, declared from 2020 to 2024. Kejriwal said, 'What happened at Sabar Dairy was an unfortunate incident when this corrupt, incompassionate and brutal government (BJP-run state government in Gujarat) lathicharged the poor cattle rearers… a young farmer died… Where is all the money? The profit has been between 16-18% in the last five years, so where is the money this year? It has all been stashed away in their Swiss banks… They have been building their mahals (palaces), their party's election rallies, they are looting the money of the poor farmers and buying swanky palaces, luxurious cars, helicopters and planes… AAP is with you. If another bullet is fired, it will first hit Kejriwal.' Kejriwal said that even after Ashok Chaudhary's death, the state government failed to give the farmers their rights and only made 'false announcements' after AAP's announcement of the former Delhi CM's visit. He said, 'On July 18, when Isudan Gadhvi announced that Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann will come to Gujarat on June 23, the very same day at 3pm, they declared that they will give 17.5% profit. They have not given it. They have just made a false announcement; they have not given anything… Isudan has told me that he went to meet Ashok Chaudhary's family… a poor farmer… their house did not even have a roof. They (BJP) are looting the money of such people, who do not have roof over their head; and building their mahals; they will be stained in sin and go to hell…' Stating that the 30-years in power in Gujarat had meant 'heightened arrogance' for the BJP, which thinks that the 'voters will go nowhere'. Kejriwal said, 'If the farmers were protesting for something and it was their right to ask, should the government not have sat down with them? Should they have fired guns, tear gas shells and lathicharged you?…What is even more surprising is that not a single rupee of compensation has been given to the family of Ashok Chaudhary after his death… Today from this stage, I demand that the family should be given Rs 1 crore from the dairy and Rs 1 crore from the Gujarat government as compensation… The compensation aside, since the day of the incident, they (BJP) have been going around threatening and pressuring farmers to stay away from this meeting.' 'BJP has captured cooperatives' Accusing the BJP of 'capturing' the cooperatives in the country, Kejriwal said, 'The meaning of a cooperative sector is that the farmers will run it. But farmers are not running the cooperatives. The BJP has captured all the cooperatives and looted you all'. 'I have researched a lot and I can say that, especially in North Gujarat, each and every farmer can be taken out of poverty if the corruption is brought to an end… I have been told that the milk farmers are paid money as per the fat content of the milk… the machine that measures the fat content is manipulated. If there is 7.5% fat, the machine will measure 7%. The remaining money, they just siphon away,' he claimed. Accusing the BJP of working for Adanis, Kejriwal said Congress after being overthrown in 1980s following a clash with farmers, leading to 10 deaths, was never elected to power in Gujarat and similarly Chaudhary's death will set off the countdown of BJP's defeat in the state. 'Congress government, which had come to power with 149 seats in the 1970-80s, became so arrogant, just like the BJP is today, that they fired bullets at farmers and 10 died; thereafter, the Congress never came back to power. Similarly, the countdown to BJP's end has started with Ashok Chaudhary's death.' During the occasion, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that BJP state President CR Paatil has been involved (in mediating) the differences between Punjab and Haryana over water as well as the wars within the milk cooperatives in Gujarat. Mann said, 'The (BJP) came to power (in Delhi) and brought the electricity bills that were free during the AAP government… But they don't come alone. They bring along Adani and a big gang.,.. CR Paatil is the Jal Shakti Minister. Punjab and Haryana are fighting over water. He is sitting in between the fight for water and also sitting in between the fight for milk. Here they are mixing milk in water… There was a meeting recently of the SYL (Sutlej Yamuna Link)… This loot will not last long. The voters have a new button and that, too, of a broom… Earlier it was only used to clean homes and offices. Now it will be used to clean the country's administration.'
