The once-popular baby names now on the verge of extinction in Australia - so is yours on the list?
The latest Baby Names report by McCrindle reveals that many of the country's once popular baby names are slipping - or have slipped - out of the top 100 and could soon disappear altogether.
For boys, the biggest drop has been the name Jake - which has plunged a significant 276 places in the rankings since 2010.
Once a classroom staple, the name is now close to extinction.
Other names that have seen significant declines include Tyler, Matthew, Hayden and Mitchell, all of which were in the top 40 just over a decade ago and are now out of the top 100.
Blake, Dylan, Connor, Nicholas and Luke, long considered safe and solid choices, have also fallen off the list.
And while traditional biblical names like Benjamin, Daniel and Jacob are declining, their counterparts - Noah, Elijah, Ezra and Levi - are on the rise, signalling a shift in taste among Gen Alpha parents.
For girls, it's an even sharper fall.
Jessica, once the 'queen of baby names' in Australia, has dropped 270 places since 2010.
At its peak in the mid-1990s, one in every 30 baby girls was named Jessica. Now, it's barely used.
Other girls' names following a similar path include Chelsea, Alyssa, Tahlia, Sarah, Holly, Madison, Hayley, Lilly and Lara - all of which have tumbled from their former top 40 positions and no longer appear in the top 100.
Even stylish favourites like Harlow, Quinn, Cleo and Thea have now been edged out of the top 100 in 2025, showing just how quickly trends can change.
So, why the sudden shift?
Experts say it's all about originality.
Parents are increasingly looking for names that feel fresh but aren't too 'out-there'.
Shorter, punchier names with two syllables - like Isla, Leo, Luca and Mila - are dominating the charts, while old-fashioned, vintage-sounding names like Florence, Arthur and Violet are making strong comebacks.
Pop culture and global influence also play a huge role.
Names from streaming shows, viral TikTok trends and international celebrity babies are all shaping what Australian parents find fashionable.
According to McCrindle, today's parents are after a name that feels stylish and unique - but still easy to pronounce at the playground.
But don't be too quick to mourn the loss of Jessica or Jake just yet.
Naming trends are cyclical - what disappears now could make a triumphant return in 20 years as a 'retro classic'.

Ben Fogle honours late castaway who 'found happiness after losing millions'
Ben Fogle has paid tribute to the late castaway and former millionaire David Glasheen after he featured in the Channel 5 docu-series New Lives in the Wild. It was announced over the weekend that the former stockbroker died aged 81, after he made a name for himself for his stripped-back lifestyle. He lived alone on Restoration Island, off North East Australia, with only his dog Quassi for company, until the dingo died in 2018 from a snake bite. TV presenter Fogle, 51, has now shared a heartfelt statement in tribute to Glasheen, saying he was 'so sad' to hear the former gold mining tycoon and property magnate had died. 'He was one of the first Wildmen I visited for New Lives in the Wild,' wrote Fogle in a caption to a post on Instagram. 'He lived alone on Restoration Island in North Eastern Australia with just his beloved dog/dingo cross, Quassi for company. 'Dave had lost his multi million dollar fortune overnight and on a whim moved to remote Restoration island where he finally found happiness in tranquility and isolation. 'He really was one of a kind and I feel so fortunate to have met him a few times and spent time with him on his little Australian paradise.' Fogle then added: 'It saddens me that so many of the folk I have met over the years are passing away but it is also a reminder of the value and preciousness of life. 'Make the most of this short time we have. Dave was 81 and lived the richest life I know. Dave found true happiness when he lost his millions and reconnected with nature.' He then ended the caption with a green love heart emoji, writing: 'Rest in Peace Dave.' Neighbours recasts major character for finale as huge return is confirmed
A Neighbours favourite is returning to Ramsay Street for one final time – but with a new face. As cast and crew gather at the cult Australian soap's studios in Nunawading, Victoria today to kickstart the last ever week of filming, the show has announced the return of Elle Robinson. Elle, the daughter of original character Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis), originally appeared between 2005 and 2009, played by actress Pippa Black. The star reprised the role for guest stints in 2019 and 2022, the latter being for what was then intended to be the show's finale. However, with less than 100 episodes left to air, Elise Jansen will step into her shoes for what has been billed as a 'dramatic storyline'. This is Elise's third part in Neighbours, having appeared as Eden Hills student Alicia Berry in 2010, and as Erinsborough Hospital Doctor Erin Salisbury in 2012. A statement on social media this morning reads: 'Elle Robinson returns!' 'Now played by Elise Jansen, Paul's daughter will soon be arriving in Ramsay Street, but what's brought her back after all this time? 'Elle's dramatic storyline is set to take us right up to our nail biting finale…' Metro understands that Elle will play a key part in the community-based storyline that will bring faces past and present back together.
