Govt unlikely to implement 20 to 28 degrees AC temp range immediately: Union environment minister
NEW DELHI: Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Friday said the government is unlikely to implement the air conditioner temperature range of 20 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius anytime soon and that it will be introduced gradually over time.
Asked at the India Climate Summit when the new AC temperature range would be implemented, Yadav said any such situation "may arise only after 2050".
"I do not think it will happen immediately; capacities will be gradually built for it over time," he said.
Yadav said that achieving climate targets must be done in line with national circumstances and the CBDR-RC (Common But Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities) principle.
India's nationally determined contributions (NDCs), or national climate plan, submitted to the UN climate body, emphasise ensuring "access to energy to its people", he said.
The principle of CBDR-RC means all countries must fight climate change, but developed nations should do more because they have historically contributed more emissions and have greater resources.
Earlier this month, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said air conditioners in India will soon be required to operate within a fixed range of 20 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius, and settings below or above this limit will be prohibited.

Speaking at the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi on Saturday, Munir blamed India — without offering any evidence — for the recent rise in tensions following the 22 April terror attack in Pahalgam. However, it is a blatant truth that Pakistan, through its proxy groups, continues its policy of terrorism against India. Whenever India retaliates in self-defence, Islamabad shifts the blame onto India. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Munir described Pakistan as a 'net regional stabiliser' and claimed that Islamabad had firmly responded to what he called 'unprovoked' Indian military actions. 'Despite provocations, Pakistan has shown restraint and maturity, reaffirming its commitment to regional peace,' he said. He accused India of deliberately stoking tensions in the region, especially as Pakistan claims it is close to eliminating terrorism. Fresh Kashmir rhetoric after 'Jugular Vein' remark In his speech, Munir once again raised the Kashmir issue, urging Pakistanis to remember the 'sacrifices of our Kashmiri brothers struggling against India's illegal occupation.' 'Pakistan strongly supports a fair resolution of the Kashmir dispute in line with UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people,' he said. A few days before the Pakistan-backed terror attack in Pahalgam, Munir had stirred tensions by declaring Kashmir as Pakistan's 'jugular vein.' 'Kashmir is our jugular vein; it will remain our jugular vein; we will not forget it,' he told members of the Pakistani diaspora abroad. Though the reality is that Pakistan has long been facing insurgency in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and PoK after mass disappearances, human rights violations, and depriving people there of basic amenities. Less than a week after Munir's 'jugular vein' statement, Pakistan-backed terrorists killed over two dozen male tourists in Kashmir's scenic Pahalgam region. In response, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, dealing a significant blow to Pakistan. It also launched Operation Sindoor, targeting and destroying terror launchpads deep inside Pakistani territory. Following this, India and Pakistan exchanged cross-border fire for four days. During the clashes, India carried out strikes on several Pakistani air bases, weakened the Pakistan Army's capabilities, and successfully defended itself against missile and drone attacks. India has suffered greatly from Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, from the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai to the latest Pahalgam attack. Pakistan, and its de facto ruler, the deep-state army, cannot defeat India in a direct war, so they remain engaged in a proxy conflict, following the policy of 'bleeding India with a thousand cuts.' Since then, India has established a new normal of responding to Pakistan and terrorism with force. This has been evident since the Uri attack, after which surgical strikes were carried out. Notably, India also conducted air strikes inside Pakistan in Balakot following the Pulwama attack. The military actions and standoffs were visible to the world after the Pahalgam attack.

MP CM Mohan Yadav orders action over faulty Aishbagh railway overbridge design, 8 engineers held responsible
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 29 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav ordered strict action after taking cognisance of serious negligence in the construction of the Aishbagh Railway Overbridge (ROB) in Bhopal. Following his directions, eight engineers of the Public Works Department (PWD) were held accountable based on the findings of an investigation. In a post on X, CM Yadav said, 'I took cognisance of the serious negligence in the construction of the Aishbagh ROB and ordered an investigation. Based on the investigation report, action has been taken against 8 engineers of the PWD.' The action included the immediate suspension of seven engineers, including two Chief Engineers (CEs). Additionally, a departmental inquiry was initiated against a retired Superintending Engineer (SE). The government also blacklisted the construction agency and the design consultant involved in the project. They were found responsible for submitting a faulty design of the ROB, which led to safety concerns. To address the structural issues, the Chief Minister announced the formation of a special committee to implement necessary improvements in the ROB. He clarified that the bridge would not be opened to the public until all rectifications were completed. 'The ROB will be inaugurated only after the improvements are made,' CM Yadav added in the post. Earlier on Thursday, Yadav said that he had instructed officials and the state minister to rectify the objection raised against a Railway Over Bridge (ROB) with a design featuring around 90-degree sharp turns in Bhopal and take action against those responsible for the mistake. 'Recently, it was brought to my notice about the issue of a bridge (ROB) being built with an almost 90-degree sharp turn. I said that it was being constructed from 2022 and is yet to be inaugurated. The bridge is under construction. In such a situation, I have asked officials and the minister to consider the objection raised, rectify the curve to avoid any accidents and also take action against those who make the mistake,' CM Yadav told reporters. He further said, 'We hope to be more vigilant in the matter of construction and pay more attention to such constructions and arrangements in the state.' The Aishbagh Railway Overbridge, nearly a decade in the making, drew public attention and criticism due to its design, which features a sharp 90-degree turn. The 648-metre-long and 8-metre-wide bridge was constructed at a cost of Rs 18 crore. Earlier, State PWD (Public Works Department) Minister Rakesh Singh had stated that the project was five years old and that its design had already been prepared. He added that the bridge was inspected by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and further action would be taken based on the inspection report. (ANI)
